A slice of Americana served on the side. What a delightful video. Thank you. Also, I can't help notice your CP air tool. My dad, who was a body and fenderman had only Chicago Pneumatic tools at the time. Old school.
Thanks for the info. I had to use a suggestion from another viewer, turned the drill on with the allan key, and hit a large rock with it. It took a few tries. Thanks
Useful info! I'm impressed you get by with those old drills. A couple of years ago, I picked up a Hercules drill from Harbor Freight, and it's way better than the old style drills. I had a decent Hitachi drill before but the HF one is better in every way. Metal chuck, more power, more speed, better build quality, better batteries. Might be worth looking into some day.
If they're particularly stuck, which happens once in a blue moon, you can spin up the chuck with the key and strike the floor with it, risky, and you have to prepare yourself that the thing will fly out of your hand, but when the hex key strikes the floor it will instantly loosen the chuck. I wish chucks were still like in the 80's early 90's when they had a thin wrench spacing for you to remove them after you removed the collar.
I kept buying them at Sears, same as you RK. Always the Father’s Day or Christmas sales. The batteries would die in a year. So I bit the bullet and switched to dewalt. I never had a complaint about the craftsman tools. I still have a circular saw that is 45 years old that I inherited that still works like new. I have a bunch of Sears stuff. It was the big boy toy store.
Well done. I’m a fan of the green Ryobi drills. At Christmas, a drill, impact driver and 2 batteries and charger are on sale at HD for a hundred. Then, twice a year, the big 4 ah batteries go on sale, 2 for less than an a hundred. I got a set 3 yrs ago for $80.00. Regular price is a hundred each. I use drill and impact all the time, no issues, with them or the batteries. I’m just a regular guy like you, always fixing something. Be safe, you and the crew. Jim
Do you know what is wrong with my moms engine it was sputtering I thing it's having a engine breakdown it showed brake distribution failed, structural failure all failure we made it home with the car safe and sound but I don't think I can say the same for the car please help us! It's a black porch
I always get a kick at Jacktown seeing some guy buying a vintage battery drill set, getting home and pricing a new battery for the drill he bought.. =D Thanks King!
I cannot get the chuck off. I tried your method with the allen wrench and no go. What else can I do take the chuck off? It a Craftsman drill drive G0535 19v.
Good Man, i like good quality stuff, but with tools there's a lot of Very over priced marketing where there are less expensive alternatives that do the job just as well. i have never bought a Snap-On tool, i only use '' Snap-Out-Of-It '' Tools. .... I like Your vids a lot, .... thanks for taking the time to make them. Dublin Ireland.
Thanks Tommy!! I bought a S-O body hammer back in 1975, paid 4 times what it was worth and the handle broke two weeks after I had it!! Tried to exchange for a good one and the S-O guy told me it wasn't guaranteed because the handle was a natural product!! I've never bought a S-O tool since!!☺
i've got the one that has the impact function and one of the EX drills, i agree with you, never had one fail on me! even still using two of the nicad batteries but they don't last as long
Great tips! I have thrown away about 20 Nicad Sears drills with cheap keyless chucks. I saved the first 2 because they were Jacobs with actual metal. Now how about my 60 year old Rockwell 1/4" pneumatic drill chucks? Well...they don't really need much help. Magdad's Chuck would be proud of those. Just keep the Flitz to yourself, Chuck!
Ever rebuilt on of those batteries? I am thinking about it as I have a few drills like that as well. Thanks for the lesson on chuck removal. Thanks for the video.
Thanks D!! Nah I've never rebuilt one, I thought about it and researched it, even took one apart!! But it takes five 11865 cells and they are only about $5 cheaper than an aftermarket battery pack with a 5 year warranty!! They're made in China but so were the original Craftsman, probably made in the same factory!!☺
Ryobi made and still makes decent tools, for the most part. I'd steer clear of the gimmicky stuff, but drills, impacts, and grinders, they get my seal for whatever's worth. I particularly like the drills they made in 2017, i have a bunch of them.
I have the same drill set but with the flash light the saw the dirt devil little thing another florescent light. I used to buy the knock off batteries off like Amazon for $35 for 2 now you can get the lithium for that price. Great drill
I just ordered a knock off from Amazon, I figured I'd check them out!! They're made in China but than so were the original Craftsman, probably in the same factory!!☺
@@805ROADKING Yeah my lithium ones I bought were the knock off on Amazon and I am quite happy with them. They even have the buttons and the lights to see how charged it is. I also have the battery tester charger maintainer that charges all types of craftsman batteries. All sizes up to 19.2v as well as 2 standard chargers. I use the old Ni batteries for the flash lights still works great for them
"Foiled by a left-hand thread", as the saying goes. This was a corded drill and I wanted to remove the chuck. In the old days, they didn't have this screw so knew nothing about this. Managed to turn the screw, the wrong way, until the head sheared of! Fortunately, the stump was quite loose and with a new screw of the correct kind all was well in the end. As for the breakage, I am in my 70s and this was just hand pressure. Guess it's never too late to learn!
I have a chuck that won't come off. I beat on it hard enough that the chuck grips messed up. I cut it halfway off down to the metal base and welded a socket to it and tried my impact but it still won't come off.
Some drills can be a real bugger to get that chuck screw out. I'm still running nicad batteries on my old Craftsman 19.2 cordless stuff. Discovered I can retro fit them to lithium ion including a charger. Much cheaper than buying a new cordless set!
Makita makes some good stuff!! I have a Makita recip saw that I've been beating the piss outta for the past 40 years!! I did wear out the trigger though!!☺
Wow, I never knew this drills were around for 40year's, where I'm from Malaysia definitely didn't have this here 40year's ago, maybe about 20+ year's ago if I'm not mistaken, but yeah USA always use to be far ahead of technology and things and only after few years we get that technology, but now of course it's almost close for most things. But depending on technology still. Nice info though.
Thanks Bob!! I have a whole new respect for Ryobi now that I know I've been beating the piss outta them for 45 years and never had a failure!! I would give a real Ryobi a chance now if I needed something!!☺
Once you should us the tricks it becomes easy. I have a few guns too because the batteries have given up on me but the guns are still good. I hate throwing them away, but i think that was the point. Throw it away and buy the new model.
Even though I use the same one all the time I can bring myself to throw out all the others, and I know I'll probably never use them again!! They're like old friends, we've been through alot together!!☺
With the batteries, they're just using the Gillette principle, "Give them the razor, sell them the blade", my two drills, a Bosch and a Black & Decker, I paid about £35-40 a piece, one battery each, and to buy another genuine battery for them, just the one that is, about £90, for a 3-cell Lithium battery, absolute bloody joke that is, cheaper to rebuild the packs with new 18650 cells which is what they tend to use in them these days) which can be cheaply acquired...
Over here it cheaper just to buy the aftermarket battery pack made in China, it's only a couple of bucks more than the 11865 cells!! The original Craftsman pack was made in China, probably from the same factory!!☺
A slice of Americana served on the side. What a delightful video. Thank you. Also, I can't help notice your CP air tool. My dad, who was a body and fenderman had only Chicago Pneumatic tools at the time. Old school.
Thanks. Your method to remove the chuck was the only one that worked for my particular drill.
Tnx bro.. im from Philippines, it fix my cordless screwdriver because of your tutorial.. love u bro
Thanks for the info. I had to use a suggestion from another viewer, turned the drill on with the allan key, and hit a large rock with it. It took a few tries. Thanks
Thanks for posting the video. This helped me get my Craftsman Nextec 12V drill apart to fix a damaged torque limiter and Hi/Low selector mechanism.
Just remember fellas, it doesn't matter how big it is, it's the thrust you use.
That's what she said.

You're never too old to be taught a new trick! Thanks RoadKing! ...Newk from Kentucky
The problem with learning new tricks at our age, is when you need them you forgot what you learned!!☺
I don’t think I would have ever found that screw. I learned something new! 👍
Thanks Tony!! Back in the day they didn't have that screw, pre reversible drill!!☺
I took apart an old Ryobi 12 volt drill and it had a Johnson motor and they were a top of the line motor
I have a whole new respect for Ryobi now that I know I've been beating the piss outta them for 45 years and never had a failure!!☺

Well done.

3:21 hi, I lost this one, and I don't know what to buy. can you tell me the size of that screw. pls thanks

Careful - we almost saw up your skirt! Great tutorial RoadKing!
Thanks Daddy!!☺
5:03 that's exactly what I thought just as you said something about flipping the skirt up. lol
Interesting tips I never thought about. Good stuff Roadking!
Thanks JD!!☺
I had that same Craftsman drill. It finally bit the dust a few years ago.
I always get a kick at Jacktown seeing some guy buying a vintage battery drill set, getting home and pricing a new battery for the drill he bought.. =D Thanks King!

Being able to use 3 different drivers is a nice design. Surprised we don't see that more.
You can use 3 in theory but only one really works well
Great share King , That is just how I change them out ! ENJOYED..
Thanks Buddy!!☺
i learned something new today, thank you roadking
Cool!!☺
i've got the one that has the impact function and one of the EX drills, i agree with you, never had one fail on me! even still using two of the nicad batteries but they don't last as long
Thank-you for the education, and the story! 😀 Nickel Cadmium batteries are 😣 I just give them away.
I followed the impact method and just like that. Thank you!
I have a Makita that I can’t get the chuck off with the Allen wrench technique. I’m going to have to try the impact gun on it. Good tip Road King!
Thanks Buck!! Good Luck!!☺
Worked great on a HF Bauer 20V drill - Thank you.

Using the impact wrench zips that chuck off real quick. Funny how they sell the set cheaper that buying the batteries separately
Yeah that party is over now, that probably helped put Sears under!! Gotta pay $35 for one aftermarket battery now!!☺
The old nonreversible corded drills do not have a screw and usually just threaded on. Some are pressed on.
those C3 Craftsman were made by TTI, same as blue Ryobi
Hi RK. Thank you for the how to. Liked, shared. All my best.
Thanks for watching Bobby!!☺

I've never had one that bad!! I've seen them cut (slit lengthwise) just before hitting the threads and then busted open!!☺
A drill for each bit if there were enough batteries. Thanks again RK
They're like old friends, we've been through alot together!!☺
If you having problems with loktite take a soldering iron a hold it on the screw for a few minutes.
Good tip Neo!!☺
Had to use my impact and it worked great!!

Looks like you got a new towel. 👍
That was just for the video!! I put the dirty one back on to do some work, we still have a few jobs left in it!!☺
Those drill motors do last forever. I have a 35 year old Makita that still works great. I built a house with it in 89-90.
Makita makes some good stuff!! I have a Makita recip saw that I've been beating the piss outta for the past 40 years!! I did wear out the trigger though!!☺
You just helped me, thanks for making video
Drill battery drama,,, I hate the drill battery drama,,,,, btw,,, good vid RK
Thanks Carl!! I didn't have any good content to put up, I had to pull something outta my ass!!☺
My chuck packed it in yesterday on my Milwaukee
The chuck on every Milwaukee I’ve had (two 1/2”, one 3/8”) failed

It sure did work. Thanks a lot.
I'M sure those were made to craftsman specs and not ryobi specs. Great tip roadking!
crapsman specs?? those any better than ryobi?
Thanks Bob!! I have a whole new respect for Ryobi now that I know I've been beating the piss outta them for 45 years and never had a failure!! I would give a real Ryobi a chance now if I needed something!!☺
Thank You ! 😊👍
Thanks Good info Fix my problem
Number 2 square you mean a red Robertson?
Not down here Scooter!! If I asked somebody to hand me a #2 Robertson, they would look at me like I had three dicks!!☺
805ROADKING Hahahha I’m only joking. Good video!
@@pimpinpenz Me too Buddy....Me too!!☺
Great tips.
it doesn't matter how big it is, it's the thrust you use..... Nuffa This!
Words to live by!!☺
Good video, thanks
Thanks Tbone!!☺
Square screwdriver is called a "Robertson"
It did! Thanks!
Bosch doesn't have that screw
I love free stuff.
Yeah Buddy!! No matter how rich you are, free is always good!!☺

If I didn’t watch this video and tried to remove it, I’d just give it a good look over, set it down.. and walk away 😁
If I didn't know about the reverse thread I would do the same thing!!☺
I think you mean Robertson
Thankyou

I successfully used the vise method. I swear to God, ever job I start gets bogged down by stupid xhit like this. Thanks

Sorry to say their not all that easy, especially brushless dewalts. Some can be almost impossible.
