That's scary, but like the quote says, if you want to test a man's character, give him power
Yeah, I thought it was just RP until they got called out for torturing the villain. And spending an actual hour of play on throwing him around. It's the kind of situation I probably would have discussed ending the game just for the villain players not to leave out of anger. But I guess they had a plan and told the DM they wanted to continue.
Right. Kind of turned out to be an interesting social experiment almost

And wow, that street thug was the absolutely _perfect_ foil for all of this, and was a truly noble man in the end. So no one noticed the perfectly chosen name of Solomon...
Solomon, the King of Israel. Was a fantastic Judge. With his wisdom he was able to pose a solution to two women arguing about whom the baby was born to. His solution was to cut the baby in two, and give each woman half. Only the true mother showed fear for the baby's life and begged the king to not and give the baby to the other woman. Of which King Solomon decreed the baby to be this woman's child.
Solomon. A name connected with Wisdom, and Judgement.
Tyler Coon or both. Could very well be both.

Yep. Perfect name for it
Tyler Coon might be named after the god
I see it wasn't just me who appreciated that. I think 'King Solomon' would have made a fair hero name, had he survived.
If someone says a racial slur, “just slips out” you ought to know that doesn’t happen unless that person uses them regularly.
Not really. Everyone has racist or sexist or any of the "ist" thoughts. People who are those "ist" don't care when it just slips out and uses it as an excuse. Someone can be so angry they don't think straight and things so slip out but they are actually sorry about it. The guys you're talking about aren't those people
@@funnynameforme4091 OP didn’t say anything about -ist. You don’t need to be racist to say racist things just like you don’t have to be English to speak English. The thing is when you get upset you don’t say random dwarfism slurs. You say what you think will hurt someone. If you are so upset that you use slurs you need to really evaluate where your head is at. The truth is the more upset you get the fewer syllables you can use as you go to the more primitive parts of the brain. It’s one thing if you are just roaring at people it’s another to use duo-syllabic slurs.

Ohhhh shit, I haven't read this one in a long time. *sits back with popcorn*
The protagonist being named Solomon is just the cherry on top since Solomon considered a wise king in most accounts of the abrahamic religions.
When you think about, he didn't use brain nor brawn to defeat all three of the supposed heroes. He used their arrogance, greed, and pride against them to turn the people on them.
He performed one miracle, but that was only proof of his wisdom.
True good and evil are different, yes, but both are determined true by one factor: both have no sin. No pride in what either are doing, no lust, greed, or gluttony for any type of power or goal, no wrath towards anything besides their moral opposite, no sloth in doing good or evil, and no envy of the other side, just righteous or dubious actions and attitude.
I am a Lawful Evil vigilante, who basically works as a serial killer, starting with other serious criminals, then mafias and corrupt businesses, later even heroes who went too far.
Villains are included, but by killing a Superhero _as an ordinary human_ (not including the "magical" form that this character comes). Slightly like the thug Solomon, only with more brutality and more visible and lasting changes.
The character in question goes by two names: Hunter as the Serial Killer, Wraith as an Anti-Villain. More jovial, still no less deadly. Real Identity is already here.

What a story. Just... amazing, and it makes you think.
Solomon's player outplayed three overpowered heroes and it was just glorious to watch, and the meltdowns made it even better.
This is my favorite story on your channel, even above the false hydra one. It's also what led me to realize that it's the social observation of what players do that fascinates me the most, merely perceived through the medium of RP. THAT is a rich experience for me.
Aaah Sorry Nothing quippy this time i’m in a malaise...might have a song fir y’all next time though yirbel lives *throws confetti*
Oh yeah, one of my favorite green text stories! Everyone loves hearing about That Guy getting his come'up'ins, but for me this is one of the best ones. The amount of forethought and planning that Solomon's player would have had to put into all of this is admirable. I know that old green text stories should be taken with a grain of salt, but part of me likes to believe that this one truly happened, especially since I've never heard of anyone trying to refute it.
Solomons plan reminds me of the ending of Doom Patrol. They were given a similar choice, except explosives on both sides.
They choose better.
A hero named Olympian overwhelmed by his own hubris.
How fitting.
This story shows what happens when laws don't apply to powerful people, and why a world with superhero-like people would most likely crumble.
But what about that universe's version of the Justice League?
*Looks at Worm* Yeah, it can go downhill in a lot of ways...
It seems the street thug gained the superpower of unnoticeability. Maybe give him the supervillain name "big brother" since he will watch you while never being noticed.
A villain and the hero can have the same skills but use those skills for different reasons . This battle would merely be a battle of the one who breaks first. Both are perceived as villains yet they show two ways a skill can be used.

@@liamdalemon1525 It's a reference to 1984 where the dictator is called big brother
Reminds me a bit of Eve Forward's "Villains By Necessity" where, after the War of Good Versus Evil, Heroes had closed this portal that let Evil flow into the world. Problem is, unknown to the forces of Good, Evil is needed for the world to survive, and the world is unknowingly put into jeopardy.
A hundred years later, a leftover group of villains finds out that the world will be destroyed unless the forces of Evil are released back into the world, and thus set off to save the world. Along the way, it's revealed that the Villains are, mostly, decent enough people, with even the most Evil member of the group having once had a family, which had been murdered just because they were of a species that was usually Evil. As for the Forces of Good, they aren't so nice, with more than a few not taking "No" for an answer, especially the woodland prince whenever he has the Villains lovely female druid in his clutches..... And it's revealed that the Big Good Guy (an elven wizard who was one of the Original Heroes), had committed an act that really upsets the main Bad Guy (an assassin with an uncanny ability to throw daggers and other objects accurately at great distances) to the point that he's able to use a Holy sword to kill him.
I am so happy someone else has read this book!
@@pambronson4467 Ah, you read Villains by Necessity too?
no disrespect, but that doesn't sound NEARLY as cool as this scenario. There’s a million and one ways that twist the perspective but it’s always the perspective that matters. Olympian, even though he ended up being the villain in this story, believed (and even said so via his player) that he was the hero. I love in D&D 5e as DM to tell players "Change your alignment to ____" of CE character does a lot of good I will make them CN or if LG Paladin is killing everyone and Oath is to show mercy to enemies I will warn him that he goes from LG to N in one big jump, then from N to CE (or LE if he still follow laws) and third time CE -> Oath braker . . . 3 strike house rules for Clerics and Paladins . . . but Cleric is punished going against the god while Paladin is punished by braking the oath . . . sure if you don't brake oath I will stop that you just are LE or something like that . . .
Fun ^_^ our LG Dragonborn Fighter went to CG after stating he will stab the sleeping goblings ass hole with his sword.
We (I) run house rule if you say something and we don't know if you mean it you do it as long it wont insta kill party. Because there are players like me who say stupid things without thinking and we like to play on the fun of it :D not to tease anyone but more like "I stab the gobling's ass with my sword!" roll for hit, roll for dmg, hit and over 50% dmg I said that the way he was playing he is CG but by play can go back to LG easily :D it was more like mini quest for the player at that point ^_^ he was ok with it.
"I will do _____ .... oh wait I don't do that!" as I start to meta game and DM looks at me smugly -"Revenge is sweet"-
I always enjoy playing a sneaky thug and I loved this the most,I hope to hear more characters like him
Moral of the story: Good rolls are good
I remember hearing this one on Cloak and dagger.
I've heard this story once, both times were unique, each one conveyed the emotion and theme of the story in a way that made the story interesting.
Man...I can’t help thinking about the connections of this story to the recent social injustices taking place in America and beyond. The “Heroes” turning on the citizens, The “Villain” being nothing but a smart man with modern technology and access to video evidence. The cream on top was the toppling of the “Heroic” statues! What a great story!
This is nothing new. It happened in the 90's. Ramparts, Rodney King...
Definitely your best story so far good sir, keep em' a comin'
Beginner DM looking for advice: My current campaign has two issues rise of late, revolving around one sorcerer. 1st is that the Sorcerer is way higher level than the rest of the party thanks to the deck of many things, and the second is that the "DM vs players" mindset seems to be growing. I've been accused of bringing monsters that are too strong, but the party has not struggled with ANY of their encounters.
It may be a bit of a bastard play but you could homebrew a sort of anti-power magic circle? Like on that negates some of the powers so the sorcerer has to rely on wits then that deck. Just be creative and something will appear for that opportunity. Just be sure to have fun.
The two probleme are linked, your monster can be too strong for the players other than the sorcerer but with the sorcerer is stronger than the party, he can solve the problem with ease.
If you are beginner and the group know it, explain you have difficulty to balence the encouter because the difference of level et talk to them to find an solution : put all the party to the level of the sorcerer, ask to the sorcerer of create a new character or nerf this one.
If you chose one of the two last, you must explain the problem and offers something to compensate the loss : an epic death to protect with a avantage of the party, the transformation of the sorcerer as a friendly pnj who can help sometime ; but you must talk with your player in all case.
And please, try to not use the deck of many thing, it's tricky or be inventive in its use.
@@nyctalopus3911 I would also advise talking with the sorcerer to get their input on a sendoff arc for the character, leading up to whatever the group decides would be best.
Split the Party, with the Sorcerer at the head no creature at their level will serve a challenge, so have the sorceror and the Party separate, it does not have to be permanent, but if you can raise your players at a faster rate than the sorcerer you may be able to even the ground. I would also consider having some kind of main antagonist for them to come into contact with, if so, imprisoning the sorcerer could work.
never dm'd but just an idea
if your campaign has some sort of magical college like the Cobalt Soul or w/e, have a group of elite (vastly higher level) wizards/sorcerers track down the party. upon contact the wizards without warning cast mass crowd control on the party specifically on the sorcerer for any skills that have to be single target. Once subdued they teleport away with him to w/e college and have it explained as a precaution. He gained knowledge to quickly and they had to be sure he has the wisdom to use it properly. keep him gone till the party catches up. have him play another temporary character, or pilot an npc till then
also have the college take away the Deck of Many Things, at least until hes allowed to leave.
also i've never played so this could be a pointless idea
Saw this on Cloak and Dagger's channel long ago, but I'm glad to hear your rendition.
Same, and it's still just as good as before!
Perfect. Just... perfection. Playing RPG's really lets people gauge who they really are by exploring the stories they present. A bunch of douchey dudes playing heroes doesn't make heroes less douchey. Badass points to Solomon and his player. Perfect execution!
OMG i listened to this story from someone else years ago when i began to play DnD. This is btw a mutants and masterminds story, not really DnD.
Love this story of solomon and doktor
Damn. Olympian never stood a fucking chance. His own ego was the one thing heavy enough to crush him. Now he IS the villain. No matter how many robberies you stop, you're worse if you kill people for fun. The strongest people are the ones who are willing to lay down their lives to protect others. I wanna thank my brothers and sisters in the armed forces of every country the world over. Even if our cultures don't see eye to eye, I respect you for your valor and I understand that you just want to protect the people who matter to you. That's the only reason anyone would enlist.
Did you know that this story has its own page on TV Tropes? This one’s an old story, but an old story that is still a fantastic story, no matter who tells it I always have a blast.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE STORIES, I really hope this makes it to be part of the intro.
DND THE BOYZ
Olympian in literally homelander lmao
Soleman was butcher getting payback
Loved this 👌
10 minutes early?
Eh. To each their own, but I would absolutely kick out the Olympian player from my group long before it got to that ending. Sure, maybe I would miss an epic story, but I would save myself and other decent players a lot of stress and unfun times.
This is legit my favorite TTRPG story. It's always nice to see another tell it. Great work.
It's amazing how absolutely personal these defeats were to the "heroes". Solomon destroys Protocol by outsmarting, outstealthing, and outteching him with his own computer. He destroys Adapt by forcing him to choose to adapt into a vegetable. And he destroys the charismatic, bold, brave, Olympian by shattering his image and showing him to be a weak, cowardly, and blind, moron. Poetic. Justice.
I guess Wolverine was right when he said, "You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
The moment Solomon disappeared, the “heroes” should’ve been afraid
Renown for his biblical wisdom given by God, the name Solomon alone commands the trait of wisdom
But it would seem being a hero clouded their judgement to the point of the law no longer applied to them; having the title of hero let’s them mug and kill with impunity
Tyrants
I know this story
nice to hear it again
And the memorial said on the bottom “the stealthiest bastared to ever live”
