    In S.India and Sri Lanka they call jackfruit "meat without meat".
    They also boil, then peel, then fry seeds with a bit of oil and spices (any curry mix will do for us, Westerners). It is considered a women's business. Women gather together for peeling seeds, and they frying it (or roasting). They enjoy their girls time, talking and gossiping. Then they are rewarded with spicy snack, so tedious work ended with something delicious. The taste is more like a potato or chestnuts.

    Dang! I have a giant asian-style meat cleaver and a rubber paint mallet I used to cut frozen pizza in half. That's what I would use to crack that thing in half! OMG! I think this would be great in enchiladas, too, because you can use red or green sauce and it would replace shredded chicken perfectly! If you put a onion in the fridge it doesn't smell and won't make your eyes water. Don't store all of your onions in the fridge, just ones you plan on cutting or using.
    I always scoop out the seeds from squash and pumpkin and roast them. Tasty! Boiled peanuts are popular in the south, too.

      Wow! I bet that giant cleaver would probably work it splitting the jackfruit in half. We'll have to try putting the onion in the fridge to see if it doesn't make our eyes water. Interesting trick! Oooo we love boiled peanuts. Especially Cajun style spicy. Yum! Thanks for sharing! 😊

    Keith and the kids spotted an 18lb Jackfruit at the store and brought it home for our first ever experience! I'm excited you two created this video to share your take on working with and preparing one to share your helpful hints. The bit on coconut oil and gloves, thats going to be super for cutting through as I had NO idea about the stickiness of this exotic fruit! Keep posting and growing! Aloha and blessings!

    All r edible except the skin..we keralites make different types of curries around 50 above varieties like burger patties,biriyani(fried rice),chips, etc.Last week we made a curry with its tender fruit,used the whole part except skin..and it looks like indian made chicken curry...
    We use its seed after peel off its skin,sliced into 4 or 6 under cooked in water containing turmeric,green chilles and salt..drain it and then shallow fry...Its middle part also good to make curries

    I cooked the whole jackfruit in a big pot for 45 minutes before cutting it. There weren’t any clues stick in my knife. I love green Jackfruit. I put in my lettuce.❤️

      @@PSAdventures Actually it was my first time cooked it like that for an experiment and it worked beautifully. My fingers were ached and my knife was ruined every time I cut it and it took so much time to clean for cut just one jackfruit.😛 problem is solved!❤️

      @@PSAdventures - I would imagine the fruit would need to be pretty ripe to cut thru so easily (I think she was pressing on different spots to show areas that gave way?). An unsafe idea to oil hands before handling the knife tho; maybe right before peeling off the spiral would be better??
      If you try opening it this way (making a full circle around the stem, then cutting a spiral) kindly video it for us, will you please? I'd like to see if it's _really_ as easy as this lady makes it appear to be! 👍🏼

    After the seeds are boiled & peeled, cut them in half (or quartered) & fry in butter! Mmmm 😋😋😋

      @@PSAdventures - the butter, when it's been slightly browned, really enhances the nutty flavour of the boiled (roasted?) jackfruit seed... it doesn't do a whole lot for the texture tho.
      I'm trying to figure out how to serve the seed after frying / what I would accompany it with... something that would compliment the Jackfruit seed's mealy graininess, or otherwise distract from it (for those who've never had Jackfruit seed before, the texture is similar to the roasted chestnuts that vendors sell around the winter holidays, from their carts of street food, often found outside of a stadium, or in the downtown core of a really big city)
      Maybe the seed could be sliced thin, and used like a water chestnut in a stir fry, or chopped fine & sprinkled on something, such as a chocolate-dipped ice cream cone, or maybe that texture would pair well with a creamy banana split sundae 😋 ...
      ...Or even better yet, one could make a soft, spongy cake (maybe a pumpkin spice flavor?) baking it on a walled, rectangular cookie sheet, and when cooled, spreading whatever flavor of ice cream on it + adding the sliced / chopped butter-fried jackfruit seeds before rolling it all up (like a jelly roll or a log cake)... mmm, then drizzling a caramel sauce over it, or maybe a fruity jam (apricot??) thinned with a little liquid of some sort (ie. a syrup? Maple, perhaps?) Or maybe... 🤷🏼‍♀️??... Oh! I know!! Thin the jam with a little of some popular alcohol -- almond-flavoured? Frangelico, perhaps?? Drizzling it over the individual slices! 😋 Or forget the jam, and maybe try drizzling something on it straight up, like a Baileys cream liquiour 😋😋😋

      @@PSAdventures it is not a glue, but closer to rubber. Goo Gone would not work. The Goo from jackfruit also dissolved my nail polish.

      ok update I cooked it lastnight and used sweet baby rays bbq sauce that I use on my ribs and burgers all the time and I vomitted it all in the morning and I never vomit. I will just stick to eatting the fruit plain and then try it in a smoothie. It gave me a crazy spirtual dream and I dont ever have dreams so that was cool and my hair felt softer so im seeing benefits after eatting it just once.

    Hi! I tried making this tonight but it didn’t turn out so well. The stringy parts were very chewy to me. I couldn’t really chew it. How do you make yours come out tender? Also, do you guys boil the jackfruit first? Thank you!

      Hi! When we make this, it's definitely chewy, but not to the point that it's not edible. We end up cooking it for a while to get it to soften up. You can keep testing it to make sure it's too your liking. It'll be important to keep adding a little bit of water to make sure it's not drying out in the pan, and to put a cover on it so that it also kind of steam cooks it. We hadn't thought of boiling it first, but you could certainly try that too! It's really delicious, but we understand it has to be tender enough! 😅

      Once you cook it, it gets very soft and very similar to "pulled pork". Definitely try it out! It's good!

    OMG when I cut up a jackfruit it didn't go nearly as smoothly as it did for you! Lol. I couldn't get the latex off my knife. Great recipe

      Getting the gunk off of the knife is always the messiest part for us too! The trick is to oil the knife very well, and just in case you may not want to use your favorite knife!

      @@PSAdventures I cooked the seeds and the fruit and made a curry and it was great. But when I cooked the pulp, I didn't care for it too much. But when I get canned pulp, I like it just fine. Any tips for the pulp?

      You should rub it with any oil it will go on smooth but you need a very sharp knife as it skin is tuff

      @@mann7972 I used coconut oil but it still seemed to stick to everything. Maybe I should’ve used a thicker oil like palm oil? I tackled a 17 pound jackfruit. So maybe it was just in evitable. Or maybe ripeness affects the amount of latex?

      A curry sounds amazing! The stringy stuff is perfect for the sloppy joe effect, but maybe you could also try roasting it in the oven, or breading and frying it like chicken tenders?

      Oh no! Well, the fruit is the best part. Yum! You could still make this sandwich recipe with the fruit part of the jackfruit, but it would come out much sweeter and softer. We'd recommend cooking it for less time as well, since the fruit would cook more quickly than the stringy part of the jackfruit. We tend to just freeze the fruit part in baggies to use in smoothies. Enjoy!

      Thank you! Jackfruit is so prehistoric looking like a dinosaur egg, but when you get inside, it's delicious! It makes the best "pulled pork jackfruit" sandwiches. You can also buy it in a pouch but it's way cheaper to make it yourself.

    Most people do not use the "stringy" to make the pulled pork. The fruit when young (unripe) is what makes the pulled pork. The "strings" are not eaten.

      Hello! We always found it amazing that few people seem to use the stringy part of the jackfruit. It is edible and we find it makes such a great pulled pork. And that way we can eat the yummy fruit part on its own. Either way, we love jackfruit!

    Help me out someone! 😫 Please.
    So bought jackfruit for the first time. Nice flowery fragrance in the air for a few days (bought Thursday) then maybe on day three (Sunday) not as much! Went to smell it and it smelled kind of like it was getting too ripe 🤷‍♀️ maybe. So I've concluded I don't like it lololol (raw fruit version at least) but willing to give it one more try. So I have peeled seeds (skin off... was I not suppose to do that??), the fruit pods thingy, and the stringy "meat" and threw it in the freezer for later (tonight). I heard you can boil it first then cook it for better flavoring etc.
    What can I still do with seeds and fruit? Is it ok to roast and/or boil the seeds? Can the fruit be thrown in a smoothie? I'm afraid I may not like it (and I like trying exotic and other ethnic foods) and be made I'll waste my other ingredients lol.
    Thanks for anyone's reply. It was 99 cents a pound and I don't want to waste my $17 dollars on 3 days of not cutting it immediately.

      You can definitely boil or roast the seeds. We like boiling or pressure cooking it in salty water and then removing the skins since they'll be easier to take off. They taste pretty simple like boiled potatoes. Give it a try and see if you like it! If the fruit is way too ripe and you don't like it, there's not a lot you can do from there though. I hope that helps!

    Fool my friends? This does in no way except visually resemble meat and if you don’t mind spitting a wad of cud when you’re tired of chewing, it could be considered edible. The yellow pods are quite good however so it’s not a total loss. No friends let this one go. (I’d like to know who pays these people to say it’s just like pork)

      😆 It's good stuff! If you cook it with onions the fibers get softer so you don't have to chew the as much. Definitely one of our favorite sandwiches when we get the chance to buy one. Yum!
