- Faust is a grand opera in five acts by Charles Gounod to a French libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré from Carré's play Faust et Marguerite, in turn loosely based on Goethe's Faust, Part 1. It debuted at the Théâtre Lyrique (Théâtre-Historique, Opèra-National, Boulevard du Temple) in Paris on March 19, 1859.
I heard him for the first time in this role on satelite radio from his 2007 performance at the Met, and I was extremely impressed by his French style and legato. He really approached the basse chantant style which is critical to this role.
He has voice to burn...doesn't have to force or push past his resonators to get more sound....even the bottom....Love it!
Bravo bella interpretazione. 🎶🎵💙

I must have single handedly increased the views by 1000 since first hearing this aria. What a voice! Incredible. Thank you so much for posting this. The best version by a million miles!
Um, Ramey
@@creatioexnihilo6599 Indeed. 1 Ramey = 1000 Abdrazakov. And then Pinza is even better!

Saluti cordiali

thank you for posting this! I saw him sing mephistopholes at the Met in 2006 and it was one of the most impressive performances I've seen to date!
Lol
Maladetsch, das finde ich auch!
einfach großartig; fantastische Stimme; überwältigende Darbietung; teuflische Urgewalt
Quelle voix magnifique
Incredible voice!
Con microfono 🎙…
Adoro questa interpretazione
I just looooove this moment from Faust!!!*3*
"Et Satan conduit le bal!"
Unfortunate costuming here, but what a gorgeous operatic bass voice - and such delicious French.
He's actually an undeveloped baritone.
@@xxsaruman82xx87 stupid people nowdays think there is only basso profundo and ''bad baritones'' have you heard of Enzo Dara ? was he a tenor ? Sherill Milnes was a tenor ?
do you want a fucking Grand Inquisitor singing Don Pasquale ?
@@kapellmeisterr I want a singer with a developed voice singing Don Pasquale, like Bruscantini, not a woofy, throaty singer, thanks. And no, there are only tenors and baritones today, no true basses.
@@xxsaruman82xx87 if we keep waiting those ''vero basso'' that you heard on some ''quality made'' recording from 1940 then we won't be seeing many with careers longer than 2 years; thank God we didn't had dark voice cultists in the time of Sherill Milnes and Samuel Ramey, and thank God people with those kind of opinions are rapdly disregarded in any respected place.
try to learn the difference between tessitura and color
@@kapellmeisterr What on earth do you mean 'longer than 2 years'? Old school singers in general had fewer vocal problems and longer careers than modern singers, and that's just fact. And there were a number of great basses after 1940, so I really don't know what you are trying to say. Milnes and Ramey are great! But Milnes is a BARITONE, and Ramey is a BASS-BARITONE. And they did have dark voices with squillo and chiaroscuro. But they weren't basses, understand? And neither are any of today's opera singers.
Dark voice cultists? Sure. Opera should sound DARK. Even a leggiero soprano should have a relatively dark voice, with chiaroscuro, chest voice and chest particpation - listen to Cotrubas and Tetrazzini. Why don't you try to learn the difference between chiaroscuro and woofy throatiness?
Vocal weight is what determines fach, not tessitura. Leonard Warren and Cornell MacNeil, two of the greatest dramatic baritones to ever live, had a tenor High D and a tenor High C# respectively. But they were most certainly not tenors. Giorgio Tozzi and Ezio Flagello both had a solid baritone High A flat, but they were basses! And the dramatic tenor Ramon Vinay, throughout his career, sang tenor, baritone and bass roles, including the Grand Inquisitor!
Ildar is fantastic!!!!
puissante et magnifique interprétation !
Gorgeous interpretation!
super! best! bravissimo!!!
This is the best short aria Gounod ever composed -- and very well-performed here!
I vote for Ave Maria
Amazing voice. Very nice listening.
Bravo👏👏
Bravo !!
I like the costume!
OMG who is this guy?!?!?! He is HOT!! One of the best Le veau d'or I have ever seen!!!!
What a force!! Unbelievable!!
Magnifica voce, splendida interpretazione.
Nino Crimi
Wonderful - with a terrific attack.
Such an intelligent singer with excellent french for one. Great line and totally unhammy delivery.
great!
Woww! Great! Awesome! Cool! :)))
Congratulation!
Maravilloso
Una voz esplendida
del baritono .
1 Ghiaurov = 20 Abdarzakov.
💗💗💗💗
Excelente!!
absolutely bloody chilling! awesome!
anybody know what production, where and when?
Is this the baritone that cut Duets with Villazon in 2017?? I think he is spectacular!!
Yes that’s him

hehehe...Mephistopholes at the Moulin Rouge... :) If he starts singing "voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir', RUN THE OTHER WAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN... :)
Who is the conductor? Exciting!
C'est terrifiant ! D'où sort cette pétoire ?! C'est diabolique à souhait.
je me suis dit exactement la même chose
arcanjo mephistofeles 👏👏👏
Wow, I agree. This would be painful to watch if the voice weren't so good.
Falta Lopecito tirando los bolsos al convento...
He is good but go to the jose van dame (perfect french pronounciation) if you want to hear what " le veau d or" can really be.
Mah...
Wahnsinn!! Der ist besser als Ghiaurov!!
Hahahahaha!
I've heard worse French diction (namely Boris Christoff), but one can't really claim it's an idiomatic rendition. Too bad he didn't work on it with Simone Fejard.
kiss my a$$!
Mimo Mimov
Classy, refined and highly constructive repartee...
you clearly never listened to Boris Christoffs rendition. and you clearly know nothing about singing opera in French!
juste horrible :(
Care to explain?
What ?
Care to explain why this is horrible?
c'est vrai .
Luiz Max Carvalho, simply listen the version of Reysen. You will understand.
Bravo!!
