Found Star in Huge Ruby 923 carats | Africa | Gemstone Cutting, Faceting & Polishing

- This sizable African ruby appears to have originated from a natural deposit rather than being mined, as indicated by its shape.
Among the recent acquisitions of rubies, this particular piece stands out as the largest and most intriguing. Consequently, we're contemplating creating a video featuring this remarkable specimen.
Following a thorough examination, we discovered the potential for obtaining ruby star stones from it. We've managed to acquire over ten ruby star stones, many of which are of substantial size, along with a few suitable for faceting.
Unfortunately, we weren't able to create a comprehensive video, but we did our best to capture the key moments of cutting this magnificent, oversized gem. We trust you found the transformation of this colossal ruby stone captivating. Keep an eye out for upcoming videos!

Bought my wife a star ruby ring many years ago. It's beautiful and a really under rated gem stone.
great to hear Mark. Yeah you are correct this comes in under rated gemstone.
Wonderful cabosan cute ruby!💥
Thank you 🤗
Beautiful ruby
Note to self; Wet tile cutter from Harbor Freight also works as a rock cutter.
Yess exactly ❤️ we will make same like that but small one with maximum 8 to 10 inch blade
Thank you very much 😊
This stone is a great example of a star ruby
Thank you so much mark ❣️💐
Cabochons look way better than faceted.
Nice African star red ruby❤
Thank you so much 😊❤️
@@Rafique_Diamond How much money are we talking here in this raw uncut form?...and potentially how much after cutting and polishing?
For the love of all that is good in this world, put some water in that tile saw!
Thank you so much 😊❤️
That’s just a toy saw. He needs to get a real one. AND yes that saw needs more water
Lol you are right this is for small stones. We will buy bigger trim saw with good size blade soon
Beautiful effect
Thank you so much 😊❤️
I love the star rubies ❤
Aww 🥰 thank you Silver Girl

Very beautiful cabs you guys have made from this giant corundum! I like that you chose to facet one even though its clarity is low, turned out very cool

Thank you so much Nisar Bhai ❤️
Good!
Thank you so much 😊
Nice work. The star is looking down the long axis of the Corundum crystal, perpendicular to the hexagonal axes. That stuff is a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, hard to work.
Thank you so much
First blackish ruby I ever saw!!
Yeah this wine colour comes from Africa

Gorgeous and those ARE rubies I love the stars and cats eyes and not the clear ones as much.
Thank you so much 😊 yess we love too☺️
Actually, they are not, they are star sapphires. The color is wrong for rubies.
My wife has an orange sapphire which is a beautiful orange sparkle in the light. Coloured stones are far better than clear. Diamond does sparkle in sunlight but that is it while coloured stones sparkle with different hues and colours. My favorite stone is emerald.
@@barrymayson2492 Sounds like your wife's orange sapphire is a radiant choice! And an emerald as your favorite stone speaks to your appreciation for the lush greens of nature, each gem a testament to the beauty found in diversity. 😍
Nice 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
Big beautiful metamorph. I would have had to facet one myself just to see but you knew what you were getting when you picked up the rough, right? The ground squirrels where I live deliver sweeties like that one to me now and then. My digging days are long gone. That said, can I interest you in more like that or maybe something in the six kilo specimen class? My hands are about done and I'd like to see someone that understands the stone get my rough. Magmatic as well.
Thank you 😊. Your deep connection with these gems is truly inspiring. If you are looking to pass on some rough stones, I'd be honoured to explore what you have.

Why is it cut into so many pieces? Is it to cut out imperfections, or are more smaller ones worth more than a couple huge ones?
The process of cutting into multiple pieces serves various purposes. Firstly, it allows for the removal of any imperfections or inclusions present in the gemstone. Moreover, upon investigation, we discovered that we could only obtain three larger pieces from it, each approximately weighing around 50 carats. Additionally, cutting into smaller pieces can maximize the value of the ruby by creating multiple gemstones with desirable characteristics, rather than a single large one. This approach offers flexibility in catering to different market demands and preferences.
I see. Thank you very much for the answer.@@Rafique_Diamond

Nice piece to do an almost indestructible statue. This would perhaps have survived 10´000´s of years. But this I don´t know. Much better color comes from the laboratory nowadays.

You obviously increased the value of that stone to gem collectors, but based on what I have seen of stone tools, that was surely one. There are a number of impressions made for fitting in the grip and the one slope indicates it was shaped by repeated abrasion. The dimpled end may have been a place to rest the fingers for better control in the use of it. I would say that the many pock marks indicate that it received blows to make it useful and, again, abraded to make it smooth to make it smooth to hold. I have many stones that share all those characteristics (not rubies, of course). It would be wonderful to know if the jeweler saw evidence of impacts or intentional scratches on the surface. This was a tool made by prehistoric men and used and perfected over millennia. It was found--not mined. Someone should canvas the entire area where it was found for more tools. The hardness of such a stone would have made it very useful for shaping other tools.
Your observation on the stone's craftsmanship and utility throughout history is fascinating. It's incredible to think about the skills and techniques developed over millennia. Exploring the surrounding area for more artifacts could unveil even more about the ancient civilizations that once thrived there
@@Rafique_Diamond I live in an area (the Connecticut shoreline) where we know that the native Americans lived for at least 8000 years. At some point I am sure that evidence will come out that they were here for much longer. The tools used here were made in the same way as those in the video and for much the same purposes. It would have been incredible to date the stone with the surrounding materials in that area. As a tool it could have been in use for I can't imagine how many generations, especially as it is so hard and would have been useful until the day it was lost.
@@lmandrakepoe Hi Don & Anna How intriguing! The enduring legacy of their tools, like the one you described, underscores the profound connection between past and present. ♥

@@Rafique_Diamond😮
I don't have a lot of them, but I've found in an old stream bed on my farm a couple of stones that look just like this one, but dark green. I did polish an end of one and it got shiny. I wish I knew what kind of light he was using to penetrate the stone.
That's nothing! We got plenty of those in Africa 😊. They all belong to my people!!!
Woww lucky. Can you share some videos 😊
How much did you sell these for?

How does the STAR FORM?
A ruby's star is created by tiny rutile fibers, known as "silk," scattering and reflecting light to form a unique star-shaped pattern within the gemstone
@@Rafique_Diamond Thank you! As a young girl I always loved LENDY STAR JEMS. Not as rare or expensive as the real thing but that's OK. My father gave me a ring for Christmas, it's an expensive cherished keepsake.
@@patwatson7038 That's wonderful to hear! It's a beautiful reminder of love and affection, carrying memories that will last a lifetime 😍
a giant unique ruby, and you cut it up into a bunch of small common ones. what a waste.
In reality, a rock of this size won't suffice unless we showcase it after it's been cut
