when John peel died he was famous for having a box of records that were his top 50 singles (updated constantly as he found new music) but there was not a single Fall record in the whole 50...this was a great shock to all who knew him and was a genuine mystery. About 2 months later his wife was clearing a cupboard and she found another box.....his Top 50 Fall records, they gpot their own top 50....awesome band, awesome DJ.

Oh dear Lord, The Fall! They could keep you occupied for years with interesting songs. But can I suggest Cruiser's Creek for the next one..? ;)

Whenever I hear a new band with talk/ sing vocals, like Fontaines D.C., the Fall always come to mind as an influence.

I know this absolutely underrated magicians of sound since the 80s and I cry every time I listen to Hit the North. It is Mark E Smith's protest, the video clip of this tune is just phenomenal. Mark was/is a huge critic of the British status quo. In the city where I lived there was only one alternative radio station, they played all the English indie bands. Hearing this song in 1987 on the radio was incredible. Respect. rip

@@ReactionsToTheClassics yeah a good album to start with is extricate easy to cope with, this nations saving grace and hex eduction hour are considered classics but a personal favourite from their later output is the outstanding the unnutterable with tracks like cyber insekt, two librans and the stunning Dr.bucks letter. Mark E Smith is technically a terrible singer but at the same time one of my all time favourite vocalists

That's an actually quote from the great man , when he was going through a bad patch and he had fired another set of band members ( or they left) and he was left with just himself and the keyboard player. The man is a complete and utter legend, he lived life to the full and died at the age of 60. He never stopped. If you get into them and really get them, then you wonder into another world. There's a great documentary on you tube, which was recorded about 2005 called The Fall- The wonderful and frightening world of Mark E Smith

Cops can't catch criminals, they talk to God was a reference to the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester James Anderton who was quite the religious nut apparently.

Honestly, this is pretty dull for The Fall. They did a lot of great stuff, but the great stuff would never have made it to the top 57.
(Check out "Blindness" or "Bury", by all means.)

  • @EM-ol6rb

Hit the North is not really representative of The Fall imo. You need to suffer through the chaos, disappointment, ecstasy, noise of a live performance to really get The Fall. Since Mark E is not with us anymore a vid of a live performance does the trick too.
