    ONE IMPORTANT THING about the Neo is that the base and the unit itself isn't connected via the pins like in the spirit/2x/4x and edge/pro, I dont know about the custom one. The unit is connected by a wire, which means every time you want to charge it or store it away, you'll need to unplug the cable and walk around with a dangling cable. Do more research if you want to get more information or just go to a physical store to see the unit itself.

    Thank you for the nice comparison video. I was looking for exactly this because my recent cheap chinese comm gave out so was looking to upgrade to a better unit. I am a solo rider who listens to music on the go and at times gps directions or phone calls. In my setup, the device and the phone, both are connected to the motorcycle to use the hand controls. Which one out of the freecom 4x and Neo would be better. I am looking for battery life plus good speakers and good Bluetooth signal strength, because I have noticed that the Bluetooth signal on my motorcycle is very flaky to a point that if I tilt my head to the left, it starts cutting off. Also is the warranty same on the freecom 4x vs Neo vs Edge?

      There could be an issue with the module in your bike. That said, I don’t think you can go wrong with a Packtalk Neo.

    Thanks for setting all this out. I'm trying to buy my first Bluetooth intercom setup for an RX7V. Thinking about starting with the Spirit HD. Is the quality of audio more or less the same across the range? I'm really only interested in music and the occasional call. I don't need to connect with anyone. One constraint is that I wear custom injection moulded resin earplugs. Will the audio sound, quality and volume be ok ove the plugs? Does the diameter of the speaker make much difference - 32mm, 40mm, 45mm. Bigger better, I guess?

    Could you confirm if the Freecom 4x is only IP65 rated? The Cardo website says it is. It's surprising that the Freecom 2x is IP 67, but the 4x is IP65.

    • @MotoNZ
      @MotoNZ  4 місяці тому +2

      Ys, 4x is ip65, 2x is ip67
      Not sure why, the 6 is the dust ingress protection, where the 5/7 is the level of water ingress protection, given the 2x and 4x look almost identical I can’t see a reason for the difference.

    Fantastic run down. I have a question though, I have mates on Interphone Bluetooth and Mesh 2 but also mates on Cardo DMC and Bluetooth, I really like the quality look of the Cardo units, can I talk on the Cardo to my mates on interphone? I’m lead to believe Interphone and Sena use the same protocol?

      You can connect all the brands you have mentioned using Bluetooth intercom. Only Cardo can talk to Cardo via DMC, and only Sena can talk to Sena via mesh.

    Thanks for this review!
    My use case is motorcycle holidays with me and just one mate. We now have quite old Cardo systems and I'm really disappointed with how well we can understand eachother when talking. Sound quality of the music is quite excellent, so I don't think the speaker quality is to blame.
    Is there a significant difference in the speech sound quality of the different models? I basically want the best speech sound quality possible for two people, but rather not pay for all these extra features if that does not improve the sound quality of the communication.

    • @MotoNZ
      @MotoNZ  16 днів тому +1

      Absolutely.
      Going from the packtalk bold to the packtalk edge is night and day when talking voice quality

    • @siesstad
      @siesstad 16 днів тому

      @
      That's good to hear!
      What about between the models you reviewed?
      I assume no difference between the Neo and Edge? The only difference is the magnetic attachment, right?
      And is there a difference between the new, but cheaper models and the Neo?
      The cheaper models don't have the 2nd generation DMC right? But it's unclear to me if that affects speech sound quality, or if it just allows you to connect to more riders...
      Could you enlighten me? So I can choose the model with the best speech sound quality for two riders with the friendliest price?

    Many thanks for a such an informative video. This is the first video I've seen from your channel. I've been researching intercoms as I'm starting out into biking and don't want to waste money in a field where it's possible to spend money like water and still not get want you want or need. You have a new subscriber!
    I have a question: Which of these intercoms, if any, conform to the new OBI standard? OBI is the Open Bluetooth Intercom standard launched by Cardo, Uclear and Midland to eliminate cross-brand incompatibility. Maybe a (follow-up?) video about this new standard would be helpful?
    Edit: There is also UCS, which is the 'Universal Communications Solution'. This practically standardizes the size and shape of the intercom. One advantage is that it will allow integrated assembly into new ECE 22.06 motorcycle helmets. It will also allow riders to freely choose communication devices without compromising the helmet fit and appearance.

    Great video but as a rider who had done 1000's of miles without these my question is how do they compare to noise canceling apple airpods or samsung eaeplugs (which i use).
    Tbe samsung is my goto for basic noise cancelation from helment wind, then as extra benefit i can do music etc. Does a cardo install have noise cancelation to remove the need for earplugs or is it for very very quite helme ts.

    • @MotoNZ
      @MotoNZ  5 місяців тому +1

      No Cardo does noise cancellation, they have speakers, not ear plugs. They are for listening to music and communications in helmet. I’ve never been able to keep airbuds in my ears when putting my helmet on…. Cardo speakers are installed in the lining of the helmet so no need to worry.

    Great video - thank you. I have a question: are the different bluetooth models compatible with each other? I am looking for a Freecom2x for myself for better audio quality and would get the SpiritHD for my partner, as she does not ride with me that frequently. Would both of them be able to communicate?

    Buying a AGV Helmet with the "Insyde" system, which I am told IS a Cardo system! Great! But, She-who-sits-behind-me, my love, need a comm system as well. What to buy? She has a Shoei-non-flip-helmet. She needs Phone, music, talk to me and maybe one other bike with Cardo system and max two riders.
    Is the Insyde system crap? Should I get a standalone system from Cardo in some duopack? Riding a GS and using an iPhone.
    It seems to me you really knows this jungle. Appreciate your input (and other folks here).

    I'm on the fence between the Edge, Neo and Freecom 4x. My issue with the Edge is that the magnetic mount seems to make it stick out a little too far from the helmet. Can you comment as to whether the Neo sticks out less far than the Edge given it uses the older clicky mount?

    • @MotoNZ
      @MotoNZ  6 місяців тому +1

      The mounts for the Neo and edge are physically identical, apart from the magnets embedded in the edge mount.

      Sena and Cardo cant talk to each other via Mesh or DMC, they can only connect via bluetooth.

      The whole Mesh Bluetooth thing is a pain in the behind. 30 riders in one group would be nigh on impossible to create and manage unless you use data and a zoom conference. You can connect Packtalk Bluetooth to almost any other Bluetooth unit. Sena is the stubborn one.
      We have a group of 6 with 5 PackTalk units, two of them are on pillions which is a waste, but they bought pairs. I have a Bluetooth on my pillion helmet is fine. Good on a ride being lead rider talking to middle and tail end riders. You’ll always have a diehard that refuses to buy into it.
      Only difference between Neo and Edge is the mounting system, Neo clips Edge is magnetic (or is it the other way around. :-P.) I’d avoid Custom it’s cheaper but you pay a subscription for the features you want to install.
