    Great video and explanation of the transfer case differences. I plan on doing heavy off road use, and am now concerned with my part time tcase on my 2024 JLU. Is there anything one can do you’d recommend to mitigate this? On average, how much would it cost to replace worn out tcase clutches out of pocket (parts and labor)? If it ever got to the point of needing replacement, would you recommend getting something better like an Atlas tcase some mention in your comments? Thank you and now subscribed.

    Really enjoyed seeing the review of your new Rubicon. I just traded in my ‘18 JL 2.0 for that exact reason you mentioned, that 48v battery and cooling eTorque system. I had no idea what we purchased at the time and unfortunately, the salesman never told me the details of the eTorque system. We now have a 392 Rubicon AEV level 2 and love the power and handling. I will have to watch that 4H Auto transfer case but paid for a 10 yr warranty so no matter what happens, we should be good for a repair. Thanks again.

    I worried about the transfer case issue when I order my X. But as I'm using it as an overlander with light rock-crawling, I figured the 2H auto would be beneficial when driving highway with ice/snow mixed with dry spots. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
    thanks for the detailed review.

      Now keep in mind being a Tech in the dealership we ONLY see the Jeep's with issues, for every Jeep in the shop there are probably 100 without the issue. I would bet yours will be totally fine for you, me being a tech always thinks about the worst case for things that might go wrong. The designers wouldn't have built a tcase knowing that it will have issues. The good thing is our new Jeep's carry a 5 year / 60k mile powertrain warranty if any issues were to come up. If the issue were to happen the Jeep will set a check engine light for "tcase clutches worn". You would then take it to the dealership and it would be fix under warranty for free. I really wouldn't worry too much about it. Get the new Jeep and have fun!

    Thanks for the great tech advice on this video of yours. I greatly appreciate the fact you are a qualified Jeep tech. I've long wondered---since the beginning of the Range Rover with permanent 4-wheel drive back in 1970---what the reliability of fulltime 4WD would be like compared with part time 4WD. You just answered that question for me, as I very much appreciate the way you explained your parameters in making the decision to go with the part time 4-wheel drive in your new Wrangler. Even to the extent of paying more for going with the individual upgrades rather than ordering the Rubicon X (or whatever it's 2024 designation) package. I, too, do not plan to buy a hybrid Jeep. Ditto, a hybrid of anything else. I also have long known I don't want a turbocharger on any car I purchase. Your video is probably THE most helpful one I've seen yet on purchasing a 2024 model JL Rubicon. Thank you very much! (P.S. I drove Land Rover products from 1964 to late 1993. Had a number of them over the years and also one 1982 gray market Range Rover. I kept the Range Rover for eleven months and got rid of it. My 2012 JK Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon has been completely reliable except for the replacement of the nav system when the Jeep had about 12,000 miles on it. I've owned "Ruby" since April 2012. Mine, too, was a factory order. Again, you have a top-notch video here on the 2024 Wrangler Rubicon. Thank you very much!) Andy McKane, 31 March 2024, Maunaloa, Hawaii.

    Question? I have the same Jeep but with the 456 gears from the factory. I am considering 37 tires. What is your opinion as a Technician with that gear ratio on 37 tires. My main concern is keeping 8th gear. Also what is the deal with shift points? Does recalibration speedometer change that or does the computer self adjust?
    Thanks.

    • @TylerPotter

      We are really flat around here in the Kansas area so the answer might change depending on your area but the 4.56 should still be adequate with 37's. Yes it will kick out of 8th to maintain speed sometimes on the highway but even mine with 4.88's and 35's will kick out of 8th from time to time at speed.

    I have a 2024 Rubicon X. I agree with you about the transfer case, but let me explain The
    vantages of having the 4 auto system.. The 4 auto has CV joints. Instead of u joints they do not bind up like u joints. They are stronger anb the front wheels turn more giving you a tighter turning radius. the 4 auto also drives better on slick roads and in the snow. The 4 auto doesn't have the FAD so the right axle shaft is a one piece instead of a 2 piece making it stronger. I guess it all comes down to whether you would rather have a stronger transfer case or a stronger front axle.

    • @richards144
      @richards144 2 місяці тому

      I've got an X on order. But I always thought that CV joints were weaker than u-joints. But that was the price to be paid for the 4 auto system. I'd love to learn otherwise. Thanks.
      also, agree on the transfer case. I went with the X as leather seats were a must for me and I'm planning on mostly overlanding so the t-case issue hopefully would bite me in the ass.

    These vehicles are over $100,000 AUD and doesn’t even have the steel bumps as standard. Nice vehicle, but not worth $100,000. $100,000 for a 4 cylinder turbo 4x4. 😂

    It's amazing how through the generations reliability is always Trump's performance. Well typically Trump's performance. I was the same when I bought my Porsche the Cabrio convertible or a hardtop and there were tons of cambrios out there to choose from. But the hard tops are way more less maintenance. Nice Jeep

    I don't believe this to be true about the auto transfer case I've been looking at the new 2024's X package rubicons and the window stickers state 4:1 rock trac heavy duty part time transfer case which is the same since 2006 or when the first gen rubicons came out but it's definitely something people need to be aware of if they're shopping for one forsure but being standard like on the 392 I don't believe to be true and yes I'd definitely not get one if it had this set up.

      If you look up the Jeep dealership service information (I really wish you could add pictures in the comments on youtube) it talks about the operation of both tcases the auto tcase being clutch pack controlled vs. the "normal" tcase having a shift fork and locking into 4x4. Thanks for the view!

      Mine says 4:1 rock track HD full time 4WD system on my build sheet on recon customer preferred package 24Y and on standard equipment it says 4:1 rock track heavy duty part time but also says on build sheet on my 24y package that it can replace some standard equipment. So the X is getting full time from what I’m reading

      @@ttyyz3731 yea apparently this is true but from what I've seen part time is standard and full time is rare or special order? I shopped a few of my local dealers and out of ten or so one had the full time. Something to be aware that you don't have to settle for either one

    • @TangoTangoAlpha
      @TangoTangoAlpha 2 місяці тому

      It’s full time AWD, but unlike the TRX BorgWarner 48-13 transfer case that’s electro mechanical chain system, the 392 uses a clutch pack system.
      As the gentleman in the video explained, over time those clutches will wear. Eventually, especially with lots of off-road use or harsh driving, it will lose ability to put power to the front tires through slippage and you’ll have a rear wheel drive 392 with an full time AWD / 4x4 capable stamp. :)
