    This is a great video. Just to see the depth of the module out of the case, and the 16-10pin connector. That alone has saved a lot of time and headaches.

    With the rise of the Behringer semis, I've seen a lot more folks collecting the semi-modulars to work with each other, plus eurorack, so it's probably too expensive to mount them into a eurorack case unless you have extra cases & power supplies laying around. It's very weird now how easy & cheap it is to get semi-modular now that Behringer has three of them to collect: a Model D, Neutron, and the Crave when it gets released. Then you could expand to the old guard: Mother-32, O-Coast. I wonder what such a setup would look like...messy outside of a eurorack I suppose. :)

    For this very reason i have opted for the 60 hp case to put my modules in, and a 3 tier stand for the mother, dfam and modules. Once i fill the case up, i'll just keep buying more and sticking them on 3 tier stands. I am also eyeballing the subharmonicon. I eventually plan to have a moog 3 tier stand and a mutable instruments 3 tier stand.

    For the price of a Mother32, it makes sense to have it be the cornerstone of your first row, your second row, and your third row.
    What I really like is that it neatly puts all the patch points off to the right so you don’t have to see/reach through a thick maze of cables to reach a switch or knob.
    Hopefully you insulated yourself from static electricity buildup before you ran your hand along the circuit board.
    Does the lack of a governing (or even DeFacto) standards organization for Eurorack, I guess one has to be very careful about voltages, pin order, ribbon directions, etc.

    I'm considering an Intellijel Atlantis in my rack. It's sort of a space hog too. What you get, in that space, is worth it. That pair of oscillators should play nicely with the M-32. I also considered the Dreadbox offerings. Out of the box, the Erebus is designed for polychaining. I think it's the sliders on the envelope that sold me. Anyone with pros or cons Atlantis vs. Erebus?
    In one of your recent videos you mentioned polyphony. Are we mostly limited to Mutable Instruments Yarns for that purpose?
    I've gone way thrifty with just rails and an Ikea Rast Nightstand. The Rast is nice for an 84HP rail setup. Shoot, I even ripped the boards, so that I got two racks for the price of one...I did purchase a $2, thrift store, hard, suitcase for my future travel rig.

    • @MoltenMusicTech
      @MoltenMusicTech  6 років тому +2

      The Atlantis is nice - i've seen some great stuff done with it. If i had stayed with desktop synths then I would definitely have an Erebus. Polyphonic modules are a rarity - they tend to be on the more digital side - but as CV is monophonic then i guess that all makes sense.

    • @MrFlatlandcycle
      @MrFlatlandcycle 6 років тому

    Am I missing where and how he dealt with the 1/4 audio out jack?

    • @MoltenMusicTech
      @MoltenMusicTech  6 років тому +2

      The audio out is connected to one of the two cables I remove at 3:53 - there is no 1/4" audio jack when you put it in a Eurorack case. You use the VCA output in the patch panel.

    • @azamarro

    • @MoltenMusicTech
      @MoltenMusicTech  3 роки тому +1

      Not as it is, it's not a eurorack power supply inside. But i'm sure with a bit of modding and a ribbon cable then anything is possible. Personally I added a uzeus power module to it because i dont like messing about with power supplies.

    Hey sorry if this is a stupid question, but currently Im plugging my headphones directly into the back of the m32. If I mount it in a case and add a reverb module next to it, would i need to get an output module to add to the end of the chain to listen to it? Or can i feed the output of the reverb back into the m32 and use the VCA out as my output? (If so can i plug my headphones directly into that output or would i need to send it to an audio interface first?) Thankyou!

    • @MoltenMusicTech
      @MoltenMusicTech  Рік тому

      With audio signals the best thing to do is try it out and see what happens. There are "right" ways to do things and there's doing whatever works for you. Ideally, yes, go from M32 to reverb to an output module. Or perhaps put the reverb on an aux send from the output module, Or use a mixer, or go though your audio interface. But the M32 does have some mixing ability so you could route back through and then try to listen to a mono signal out of the VCA... but im not convinced that would contain the mix.... but as i say, try it and see. An output module would make you life so much easier.

    • @harryyes1527

    I'm a recent viewer but I've been enamoured to build my own eurorack after watching your modular video series (especially after hearing the black wavetable), and even got myself a job for the sole purpose of buying synths. I'm planning to start after buying a Behringer D though. I still have no idea if it'll be able to integrate well like how your Mother 32 does to a eurorack. Which leads me to ask:
    1. Are you planning to take a look at the Behringer Model D?
    2. Are you going to make a video about modular synths to sound like polyphonic ones, or is that too common a knowledge that you just need to research a bit on the web? Apologies. I just started with synths this year, after purchasing a JD-Xi.

    • @MoltenMusicTech
      @MoltenMusicTech  7 років тому +2

      I wasn't planning to get a Behringer Model D but if one comes my way I'll certainly look at it. Modular is more often about the interaction of monophonic sounds, but you can get polyphonic synth voices - or you can do clever things to combine oscillators so you can play them as a polyphonic synth, it would be a question of converting MIDI chords into different CV outputs. So it's not a simple thing. It might be something i'll look into at some point.

    Hi Robin, firstly thank you for this but I also have a question - I think the sound i now get from the VCA directly is a little different from the audio output I was getting when this was in its standalone case. I’m sure the filter now is different also. Did you detect there was any difference when you moved it into the rack? Am I just losing my mind?

    • @MoltenMusicTech

I don't see a lot of theory or examples of why people are making melody and rhythm choices . It wold be cool to hear, "I had this rift in the key of F and then the beat just really fit."...or "The maths slope was making this drone and I needed this little rift to make it work...so I used a clock divider, bla, bla, bla."
      That's just my fevered idea of how UA-cam should be
