A few pedals and plug-in straight into my amp is all I can handle.. it's giving me a headache just watching you.lol..great channel..smash that like people
I'm sure you already know this but the Behringer FCB1010 does everything you want a midi foot controller to do. Scene changes, bank up and down, inexpensive, built like a tank, even has two expression pedals. It's ugly, big and has a bit of a learning curve to program - but it's given me all the control options I want for my AFXIII in one package. I have a preset set up for each song, then I use the scenes to navigate through different tones in the song, then preset up to get to the next song.
Yeah, that's my main issue...I want something small that can go in a gig bag. That thing is HUGE. Plus you have to take it apart and add a chip if I'm not mistaken? BTW, I have a midi controller coming soon that checks all my boxes 👀👀👀
@@TaylorDanley It's definitely big (and ugly) but for the price and functionality, hard to beat. No chip swap required and the freeware software editor makes programming it a big easier. Still... once of these days I might pull the trigger on one of the fractal controllers - single cable for power & midi, plus the extra features are nice (but pricey).
I don't know if you can use USB for MIDI, but if you can, use Line 6 floorboard (shortboard) it has tons of buttons, super programmable, and has a wah pedal.

The Axe FX 3 is seriously the coolest most insane piece of gear i've ever bought. The possibilities are endless and it's so damn fun! and obviously it sounds fantastic. I feel like the best thing for a high end digital unit is exploration. For example, when i first bought the axe fx I was playing only 7 strings with the normal high gain metal amps. I was at a point where I really wanted to get a good setup that I can take from my studio to practice and to gigs. I first looked at something like MB Rectifier and was pretty close to getting a Savage 120 and maybe using a load box. I then looked at The Kemper, AxeFx (II at the time), Headrush and the Helix. Going with the more digital made sense with having that consistency because I tend to sketch out songs at home and bring them to band practice. The Headrush and Helix were ok, but didn't sound as good as I was expecting. the AxeFx sounded good, but the price tag and intuitiveness was a bit more than what I was looking for. I heard a lot of great things about the Kemper, but there was no way to try it out since no local store carried one, but a floor model showed up on Sweetwater so I went for it. It's been amazing and is probably the most game-changing gear purchase I've made. Also, I already had an FCB1010 so I bought the Eureka which made it work perfectly without having to do a shit load of MIDI mapping. I know there are a lot of people that are "married" to their gear and seeing comments from users like on Fricker's channel, people get pretty emotional about it. Saying that there's software that can do just as much as my Kemper doesn't get me mad or regret my purchase because even now my amp works great for me and I couldn't be happier. It's good to have channels like yours to get a good idea of what this gear can do, but also get some insight on how you're using it. This gives the rest of us an idea if this could be right for us and not just 3k rack eye candy. Anyways, thanks for showing a good amount of detail in how you use it.
🙌 thanks. That's why I wanted to make this video.. not only had I been getting asked questions about my rig, and felt like I needed an updated video, but I think it's important for people to know that I bought it for a very specific reason, and that it might not be for everyone... and that's OK! At the end of the day, play what inspires you... be it tube, digital or even acoustic!
Holy sophisticated Batman! I guess the days of plugging directly into a JCM800 are over. “I might be old but I’ve seen Dimebag live several times” lol 🤘🏼
Thanks to an other video from you (a comparison with Helix) I bought the Axe-FX III MKII and have now owned it for about five months. It just sounds so f*****g great. Juicy, thick, yet clear distortion and crystal clear cleans. I will keep it forever. :) Any guitarist who is serious about the tone needs this, PERIOD. There's a reason artists like Vai and Petrucci use this. Also as a Tägtgren/Hypocrisy fan I especially appreciate the 4x12 70's Greenback cab which comes pretty close to his sound with the right amp.
I use a real tube amp (Two-Rock), but yet I’m gonna get the Axe-FX3, not to replace the amp, but as an effects. I did the math of owning some high-end pedals such Strymon timeline, big sky, mobius... it’s easily $400-500 pedal each; and they’re also digital, so it’s not like I would miss anything. Then you add some additional pedals such EQ, Chorus, Flange, maybe a boost, and then you end up very easily to the price of the Axe FX3. And I would need a loop switcher, cables, power supply, etc... So yeah, it can make my life easier by having more simple rig with just a good tube amp, the Axe-FX3 and then some real analog pedal for distortion and fuzz (just to keep the signal analog up to the amp). So yeah, it’s expensive, but effects are top notch, and if you do the math, it’s not more expensive than owning a good pedalboard full of pedals to get the same effects.
The gate on the AxeFX took a while to get used to. I guess it's just weird seeing a ratio control on a gate! Usually it's set to infinity I guess, like a hard limit. It definitely operates differently than any other gate, hardware or software, that I have ever used. But once I got used to it, it's great.
If my house cought fire, I'd grab my cat and my Axe fx3 before I escape. Looking forward to the amp modeling overhaul they're getting ready to release in the next firmware update! They also said something about the next firmware making it chug even better! Haha
I'd say that it most certainly is. even if it were 3 grand it would still be worth it because it faithfully emulates hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gear. and sure, floor units are more portable, but a single rack unit is more portable than even one 100W tube head and a 4x12 cab
