    I love how you are doing reviews on Paddles and Companies that John Kew, PB Studio, and others in the paddle review space are not featuring. Had you not done the Ballr Heat review, I would never have known about it or their Company. Now it's become my primary paddle. Your comments about Control are spot on and why I moved away from my ProDrive Ghost. These latest edition Thermoformed Paddles continue to raise the bar on Control while also adding Power and Pop when you need it. The fact that they are lowering the price points on these paddles and disrupting the Pickleball Establishment Brands is even better.

    I've been using the Kinetic as my main paddle for about a month now. I absolutely love it. It does everything I could want from a paddle. The high spin, high pop, and forgiving sweetspot are my favorite attributes of the paddle.

      I did yes been back and forth between 2 pre-cut strips on the 4 and 8 oclock positions (beginning of the flat edge on the sides) and 5" of 1g/inch lead tape starting 1" out from the handle going up the throat into the sides of the paddle. I think the 5" is my preferred for this paddle right now :)

    Another stellar review Steve. I love it when a respected reviewer singles out a paddle I have “discovered” for special praise. I have been using this Kinetic for a few weeks and it checks all the boxes for me right now. Soft, controllable, great spin and power. Plus very fast in the hand. All at a great price! Makes one wonder why other paddles cost as much as they do. Plus with all the model options they are a great company to support. Right?
    Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to see what you’ll review next, Bob

      What an awesome comment. Good find! Yeah I am loving their paddles especially for the price. That's why I used to put Joola and Selkirk on blast every time on my comparisons in each category because paddles like this cost half the price and perform so much better than the big brands. Crazy. Hello, how would you compare the Kinetic and Ruby versus the Viva pro Gen 2? ...I've had the Viva pro Gen 2 for a while now and haven't seen a reason to change paddles.
    I do like power..drive..serving with top spin...however found I can dial in control more after playing with a paddle long enough.

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball  3 місяці тому +1

      The kinetic has less power than the Viva Pro Gen 2 for sure, but more pop, and more spin. Ruby has less power also, but quite a bit more spin stock, and has a more plush feel off the face. I think if you’re looking for more pop / more control one of those could be a solid bet for you 😊

    Seems like the peel ply process would make a much bigger difference in spin durability than the material itself since the ball is basically contacting the epoxy on top of the fibers? Good review- love my apes paddle but the kinetic looks awesome as well!

    • @86309
      @86309 3 місяці тому +1

      yep. Nobody seems to be talking about the epoxy/resin that the peel ply is laid down on, thats where the tech will improve.

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball  3 місяці тому +1

      It’s not the entire story but yes peel ply material does matter. I had an extensive conversation with John Kew about this and we both agree that the material of the face (18k, Kevlar, blended Kevlar, T700) does have an impact in how fast the peel ply wears down. Otherwise we wouldn’t be seeing different spin loss amounts with the same peel ply process and material from the same factory.

    • @86309
      @86309 3 місяці тому +1

    Another "news you can use" video. Great stuff. Question: I've ordered my GBX Pro Control, but curious on your thoughts edged vs no edge paddles. I haven't played an edged paddle for 2 yrs, and maybe because I'm a better player now, but edged paddles I didn't like because I would catch the edge, but no edge paddles I don't. Paddle or player? See ya on the court!

    • @stspickleball

      Haha definitely player I’m sorry to say.. I do it too though. If you hit a ball on the edge or on the throat hole of a paddle with a hole that shot would be bad no matter the paddle. You gotta hit the sweet spot. And so do I lol.

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball  Місяць тому

      Vatic Pro Flash has a lot of delamination issues so I’d skip that. Ballr Heat is a solid paddle. Feels a lot like a Volair Mach 1 Forza. Sort of your standard slightly more power oriented all court paddle at a good price with top tier spin. The Kinetic is noticeably more rigid off the face, it’s poppier and has relative spin and of course has Kevlar added. If you want something more linear and just a solid paddle for a great price without thinking too much grab the Ballr, if you want something more poppy and firm off the face and want Kevlar I’d grab the kinetic 😊

    The website states "Note: Lighter paddle can be requested in the notes section of the cart." Do you know how they make the paddle lighter, and if it is lighter, does it affect the twist & swing weight?

    • @stspickleball
      @stspickleball  3 місяці тому +1

      So during the manufacturing process the materials are either denser or less dense between paddles. At this point in time it doesn’t seem to have any effect on durability. It might shift the swing weight / twist weight slightly down if it’s lighter but generally speaking a lighter paddle would be better because adding weight on the perimeter will actually give you better resulting numbers than a paddle that’s already heavier 😊

    Ok I need something clarified. I thought the most outer layer of all these carbon fiber and Kevlar paddles is an epoxy, Like they use a cloth that's drenched in resign put it on the face and when it dries they take it off. So the most outer layer is an epoxy and not actually hitting the carbon fiber or Kevlar. so spin loss should be graded on the Epoxy the most outer layer that's actually giving the paddle the "texture" you feel. Or am I totally wrong? Because that's why other UA-camrs have said in the past.

    • @stspickleball

    ? I have not read any substantive reports of the Ruby losing it's spin or the sweet spot changing aside from the typical break-in period (for me it was a week). I found it to be quite stiff for the first week of play (3 or 4 sessions at ~2 hours per). Regarding the Ruby losing spin - it does lose some but it is losing it at a slightly slower rate than carbon fiber paddles do (source: JohnKew testing). Your testing apparently disputes JohnKew's?
    History has shown us that carbon fiber paddles are effectively useless in the spin department after 4 to 6 months of usage by someone who plays 10+ hours per week. We don't yet know if that is the same for 100% kevlar faced paddles.

    • @stspickleball

      TLDR very cheap paddles that have broken during play for some friends of mine. I would HARD pass on them if I were you.

    I listen with interest about spin loss reports from reviewers. Johnkew reported numbers on a few paddles, but remember that the playing time was described as around three months, but was the actual playing time the same? Was it during hot weather or cold weather? Was it on relatively clean indoor courts or gritty outdoor courts where the ball can pick up abrasives? Was the same person using the paddle? My take-away from his report was 1) most peel-ply paddles lose a bit of spin over time and the loss is relatively the same; 2) expect to replace your paddle every 3-6 months if spin is important to your game; and 3) spray-on grit has a terrible lifetime (Selkirk).
    I give little credence to individuals posting on social media about spin loss. Do they have a high speed camera to measure spin?

    I'd have to disagree with the Ruby having power of 9.6... been playing with the Filth and the Ruby has noticeably less power and pop. I'd give the Ruby a 9.0 at best on power. I think you're about spot on with the pop of the Ruby.

      Definitely less pop. Could be the first production model Dale sent me. I have heard since they are manufacturing so many there has been a drop in quality control and some are coming in at a rather light weight which could be the case with yours!
