I’ve been a diehard hip hop fan since the 90s, and I still don’t care whether he apologized. That doesn’t affect the quality of the music for me.
🐢 - MIGHT DELETE LATER - in it's totality - was an elite response, especially in this day in age. Taking into account the timing, content, and subliminals. But the apology discredits the entire body of work. In hindsight, I believe it would have aged into a classic mixtape - Cole had mad barz on all of the current releases on the project, but you could tell some of the songs had been created years ago, and were throw away. 💯

The thing is, I don't think J. Cole ever really just considered himself to be an "elite" or "top tier" rapper, but it's always bern more of his listeners and fans that started boosting him up with that kind of title.
