Yes! Last year I was sick for a whole month and wasn't going anywhere nor I bothered to put on any makeup. When I eventually got better, I just liked my no makeup look so much that I didn't want to do my makeup at all 😅 Took me a couple of days to have that real yearning to put some proper makeup but even then I decided to slow down a bit and use way less than I used to.

I lost my brows due to autoimmune disease so it wasn’t a choice I was making. Brow trends are so cyclical and I think it’s easy for people to forget that having brows that will support following trends is a luxury that people with fine brows, certain illnesses, and some other things I can’t think of off the top of my head right now will simply never have the opportunity to partake in. Especially if people are now afraid that theyre currently experiencing some type of makeup blindess, relax, if you like your look then thats what you do. From the perspective of a neuroscience grad: what you've described in "taking a step away" is really the key to SO MANY aspects of human psychology. We really can lose our sense of perspective, not being able to "see the woods for the trees" as some might say. When too close to something, we can and often do lose clear sense of perspective. That's why therapists need therapists of their own, why doctors can't write scripts for themselves, and why sometimes you might encounter the phrase "learned helplessness" in which victims of abusive relationships may become accustomed to their relationship dynamic as normal or unavoidable. We ALL fall victim to this. Don't stress if you look back on your 2016 brows with disdain, many do 😅

      3. Because I lost a bet. I want to remove it so bad! 🫣

We would step away from what we wrote for a day or so and then come back to it with fresh eyes. And it's always fascinating to see how good or bad the stuff we wrote actually was because the state of our mind during the time we wrote that is different from today.

I try not to sweat those old photos. I know that each time I do my makeup, I do my best with the knowledge, products, and skin that I have. It doesn't always end up looking the exact way I hoped it would but it's never extreme so I have no shame. I prefer a more subtle look. I put effort into my appearance and I don't leave my home uncomfortable with my application. I can't let fear of makeup blindness be added to my list of anxieties.

💯! I remember the time I had, rather than the makeup I was wearing. The way it should be.

I kind of love things being a product of a time period. I think In some ways - yes it’s good to develop your own personal style outside of trends - but I also love when things aren’t timeless. Its a nice way to see the ways we changed alongside our culture/communities! Like the lady with the white eyeshadow, I thought she looked lovely 🩷

What a great perspective 😊 it’s like a shot into that time period like when we look at 50s style or flapper style. It was all the rage back then and maybe we wouldn’t wear that now but it sure is fun to see how things have changed over the years.

I have to admit that once the less makeup trend came around that's the hill Imma die on... I like how I look with basic, everyday light coverage make up and that's what I have done for like 4 years now

Yep. I really couldn’t care less about being blind to how randoms see my look because I’ve never desired doing my makeup for the public’s approval, and I don’t want to taint my love of personal expression. It’s so much more fun to experiment and play with makeup/fashion than to play it safe 😂

loved hearing your take on this! most of the time when i saw people's videos about makeup blindness i also thought they were just following the trends at the time and doing it well, so i hope no one is harsh on their past selves for how they wanted to look at the time 💞

I used to have makeup blindness due to low self esteem. I hated my face so my makeup was all about changing features I disliked rather than enchanting ones I like. As you can guess it wasn't flattering. Eventually I stopped over bronzing, over lining etc as I grew older and more confident, followed less trends and focused more on technique and now I am like 95% sure I don't have makeup blindness 😅

Bad tips that wont die - over lined Cupid’s bow, highlighter down the nose, bronzer everywhere, false eyelash overkill, black eyeliner for everyone.

I still wear highlighter down the nose 😂 tbh I love it. The worst has to be covering your Cupid’s bow though. That has to be the most beautiful part of the lips.

You are such a sweetheart ❤. The way you are gently explaining trends and the compliments on style and execution were so refreshing from all the mean and condescending texts that add no value and purposely meant to hurt the person learning new steps in application❤. I have a teen daughter, and we watch videos of yours and your brother. She has young unblemished skin, and I plan to keep it that way. THANKS for always adding value to the makeup community.❤

Your honesty and your kindness are just so lovely. I really appreciate your videos so much, not just for the advice and information, which are terrific, but because of your really down to earth and realistic attitude. I started watching to find out about makeup blindness and to see if I could tell whether I have it, and was just delighted by your appreciation of...idk, our shared humanity, I guess. Trends change, and experimentation is awesome and necessary for growth and self discovery, and nobody gets it right every time anyway. ❤

Imo a trend I think people will look back on and wonder why they were doing that is over highlighting the tip of the nose. Some people are a bit too heavy handed with it and then it's all I can see. A shiny target right in the center of their face, I can't look away
