Yes! Last year I was sick for a whole month and wasn't going anywhere nor I bothered to put on any makeup. When I eventually got better, I just liked my no makeup look so much that I didn't want to do my makeup at all 😅 Took me a couple of days to have that real yearning to put some proper makeup but even then I decided to slow down a bit and use way less than I used to.

I lost my brows due to autoimmune disease so it wasn’t a choice I was making. Brow trends are so cyclical and I think it’s easy for people to forget that having brows that will support following trends is a luxury that people with fine brows, certain illnesses, and some other things I can’t think of off the top of my head right now will simply never have the opportunity to partake in. Tastes are so individualized too, so no one is ever going to be pleased by everyone’s aesthetic and it shouldn’t be expected!

Literally the best eyebrows are ALWAYS just whatever your natural shape is, enhanced a little bit. And by enhanced I mean plucking stray hairs or filling in sparse areas. (If you want to do anything at all!)

From the perspective of a neuroscience grad: what you've described in "taking a step away" is really the key to SO MANY aspects of human psychology. We really can lose our sense of perspective, not being able to "see the woods for the trees" as some might say. When too close to something, we can and often do lose clear sense of perspective. That's why therapists need therapists of their own, why doctors can't write scripts for themselves, and why sometimes you might encounter the phrase "learned helplessness" in which victims of abusive relationships may become accustomed to their relationship dynamic as normal or unavoidable. We ALL fall victim to this. Don't stress if you look back on your 2016 brows with disdain, many do 😅

Trends are one thing, but I think the blindness when you just have "bad makeup" is largely because you have a vision in your head of what you were trying to do and you're kinda seeing that vision instead of seeing what you actually look like.
It reminds me of how my younger brother is currently 24 years old, but to me he doesn't look like a grown man because in my mind he's still like 11, so when I look at him I don't really see what he looks like, I see what my internal idea of him is. Of course he doesn't literally look 11, but my mind kinda ages him down significantly because I'm projecting the features I've seen on him growing up, you know? Similarly with makeup, you may project your idea of what it's supposed to look like.

it also happens in an opposite way with women who keep wearing the same exact makeup for 30 years meanwhile their faces have changed. It's some sort of makeup blindness.
When I look at my older photos I may find my make wrong but the face was so much better and it shocks me, especially as I felt ugly then I was so pretty instead.

Another blindness is wearing a trend from a 100 years ago and not changing as we get older! I was a makeup artist about 15 years and sometimes a client would come in with same makeup style from much younger days. Really dark eyeliner all around her eyes with tons of blue eye shadow and a strong lip. I worked for Bobbi Brown so it was my pleasure to show the client the difference in a lighter and more effective way to enhance her features with a softer look. Now I am retired and trying to adapt to more mature skin makeup yet still follow the trends somewhat. Love you Robert🥰

I used to have makeup blindness due to low self esteem. I hated my face so my makeup was all about changing features I disliked rather than enchanting ones I like. As you can guess it wasn't flattering. Eventually I stopped over bronzing, over lining etc as I grew older and more confident, followed less trends and focused more on technique and now I am like 95% sure I don't have makeup blindness 😅

I try not to sweat those old photos. I know that each time I do my makeup, I do my best with the knowledge, products, and skin that I have. It doesn't always end up looking the exact way I hoped it would but it's never extreme so I have no shame. I prefer a more subtle look. I put effort into my appearance and I don't leave my home uncomfortable with my application. I can't let fear of makeup blindness be added to my list of anxieties.

To me, "{insert parts someone doesn't like on someone else hete} blindness" is not a real syndrome, but just another way to allow strangers behind a keyboard to make people self-conscious, are bullying tactics, and it's perfectly fine to tell them to *meow*k off if they're being rude.

@@raerohan4241 There’s now been a lot of studies that show that even “dissolvable” fillers are extremely hard to completely get rid of and can migrate. Once you put a foreign substance in your body that sits there and starts getting comfortable, it’s extremely difficult to get it completely out again. So, even “temporary” fillers, at least as of right now, aren’t as temporary as many people believe them to be.

I think you're being very kind! Now that I'm older, I have a different attitude about trends. At some point, you begin to ask yourself, is it more important that I be trendy or more important to wear what flatters me? There are some trends like may look better on someone with a different body shape, face shape or whatever. There's a lot of psychology as to why we gravitate towards fitting in, it's almost primal in nature. If you're comfortable with it, skip that trend that really doesn't do anything for you or adapt them to enhance your own beauty or figure. Nobody's telling each other something looks bad because it's rude & it's a matter of opinion most of the time anyway. Unless your friend has an unblended jawline, then please speak up! 😂
