Healing Force: In this clip was Charlie Tumahi Bass/Vocals, Lindsay Wells Guitar(Strat), Mal Logan Keys(L100 Hammond), Laurie Pryor Drums. In the early days John Pugh (guitar) sat in on occasions (see "Golden Miles" GTK clip). The only vinyl recording was the single "Golden Miles"/"The Gully" recorded by Roger Savage, Produced by Robbie Porter (NZ Rob EG) and mixed at Electric Ladyland. They had enough original songs for an album but the band broke up before recording them in a studio.
I came looking for this clip (thanx for posting it Mate).... and here it is.....a true Oz Gem, one of the songs that was a part of the "Anthems" to a younger me......back in the days when Musicians could play their instruments and Vocalists could sing without 'Autotune". I'm a 40 year Vet as a Muso and am astounded at the "SHIT" they call music nowadays.
So much love in the foregoing comments - fully deserved. An edited version of this song was included on the K-Tel compilation 20 Dynamic Hits Vol. 2, which was my first album purchase back in the dim, dark days as a pre-teen. The song has stayed with me ever since and is the greatest Oz song of all time - forget the 'prog' tag, this is music that doesn't require a label. RIP Charlie Tumahi.
An all time favourite song that takes me back to when I was 16 full of hope, dreams and plans. I'm glad they recognised it in "Bombora - The History of Australian Surfing", it truely is a remarkable song.
This is indeed a classic song. Im so glad it was voted as the greatest aussie composition of all time! I was 2 years old when this song came out, and Ive grown up my whole life listening to and loving this song...totally reminds me of summer when I was a kid in the 70s!!
ROY // + the leslie and fender 60watt amp . mal logan the keyboard player soon after this recording added the hammond B3 organ and then a MOOG synthesizer to his box of toys // the writing credits went to lindsay wells the guitar player in this band (better than fabulous player a great player and me thinks still going strong in perth WA ) some years later the writing credits were co/shared by lindsay and mal (beaky) // and who could forget the great man charlie tamahie on vocals and bass // fucking true ozzie and NZ rock legends // cheers grizzly...
New Zealand element is maori Charlie Tumahai on Vocals and Bass. The great Australian music classic in my opinion. Supergroup - John Pugh and Lindsay Wells on guitar and Mal Logan on organ, Laurie Prior (ex-Twilights) drums and leader.
A big night at the Christo Disco in Devonport Tasmania in the local church hall around forty years ago.. Healing Force blew me away as a crazy 15 year old. Loved the song and the band ever since. This is catchy sixties pop.
havn`t heard this song since I was around 10 years old. looooooooooove it. thanks to jimmy barnes`s radio show for reminding me and thanks to whoever posted it here.
Wow!I can't believe I've never heard of this band. What a shame! These guys should have been a big hit here in the states. Great sound. Thanks for the post.
No Drummer in HF was Laurie Pryor formally of The Twilights, the keyboard player was Mal Logan who was later in the Dingoes & LRB, Tully's keyboard player was Michael Carlos and drummer was Robert Taylor
The great Healing Force, Oo yeah.Thats a terrific song that young Aussie bands should listen to.Get an idea about where they are from, musically. Thanks tomtokenator
brilliant song it brings tears because those days are gone, those days seemed never ending especially with radio station playing it and traveling down the roads out of Hay getting stoned out of my head. Still got my 45 single its like gold to me. MUSIC TODAY TRUELY SUCKS, men got no balls and sound like women on heat and females sounding like men.
Yes! There is a collection of tracks released on the Raven label, called 'Golden MIles: Australian Progressive Rock, which has photos of both Tully and HF. Looks like they shared a common member.
I'm not sure but I think this band supported The Kinks when they played Brisbane in 1971. Badfinger were supposed to play, but cancelled, and their slot was filled by two Aussie acts, Ted Mulry and (I think) Healing Force.
As catchy a tune as you'll ever find, cool organ playing, naturally soulful vocal style, a classic that should be on every top 100 hits list ever published. Unfortunately it is not! That's a shame.
I remember listening to this cruising around in my uncles Torana when I was a kid..those were the days!! Does anyone know if Healing Force still play, either as a group or solo musos???
Maybe todays bands dont get to pay their dues at pubs and clubs like they used to.Good bands work hard at getting their sound right,eg Healing force,Madder lake,The The chain,Billy Thorpe,The kinks,Easybeats,Ted Mulry,Ac/dc, Badfinger etc
Charlie Tumanhai is sadly, no longer with us. He left Healing Force back in the 70's to join Be-Bop Deluxe. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if any of the band members in HF were also in band called Tully? Possibly the keyboard player or the drummer.
Healing force,Badfinger.Sounds just awesome!Others that i,d happily include like the great Billy Thorpe,Inxs, the Rasberries,Seals and crofts,Ted Mulry gang,Easybeats and Ac/dc.

such a great song , i really wish these guys did an LP, so much aussie bands of this era were under-recorded
An Aussie anthem my son says he always thinks of the beach when he hears this. they were born to sing and perform this.

Very cool song, thank you, aristacourt, for this share!
this is always such a timeless and underplayed song, it should be like our anthem- you think of oz when you hear it, it doesnt get enuf airplay...
The band finally broke up in 1973. Most of the members went on to join other significant groups. For the full story, check out the Milesago website.
The bassplayer/vocalist also played in Bebop Delux with Bill Nelson, and was on their Live In The Air-age ...an amazing double live album.

EXCELLENT!!!!
It's the late Charlie Tumahai, who later played bass for BeBop Deluxe.
Great memory.

I love the song, what has happened to the music of today?
Lindsay Wells is my step dad and he wrote this song
totallly oresome
: i luv this song :-)
Why do we never hear this song on the so-called greatest hits radio stations? Is it because we only get what charted in the US or the UK?
amazing share garyco762 !!!!
WOW!!!!! I had completely forgotten about this band and exquisite piece of music. Very cool listening. Were they only around for a little while?
Maybe todays bands dont get to pay their dues at pubs and clubs like they used to.Good bands work hard at getting their sound right,eg Healing force,Madder lake,The The chain,Billy Thorpe,The kinks,Easybeats,Ted Mulry,Ac/dc, Badfinger etc

Yup
Lyndsay Wells, is he still playing?

me thinks he was on stage at the MICHEAL GUDINSKI memorial rod lavis arena on 24/3/2021 guitar stage left on one of the sets // cheers grizzly
FUCK YEAHHHHHHHH
It's only 3 minutes long. It's more like "decorated pop", and sort of psychedelic. Cool song, no less.
Great song and Band! Pity video tape was so crap!! 😐
greta share xxxhugs
is this the only surviving clip of the original healing force?????????????
Healing force,Badfinger.Sounds just awesome!Others that i,d happily include like the great Billy Thorpe,Inxs, the Rasberries,Seals and crofts,Ted Mulry gang,Easybeats and Ac/dc.
