This song is so cool, love it at 1:38 when the instruments come in for the hook and then Stevie takes over again with that bad boy singing . I was a teenager at that time and I am American who listened to many American and English groups. The Beatles and Led Zepplin were my favorites, but never realized the under rated talent of the Easybeats due to the non exposure. The more I explore on You Tube it is so much appreciated seeing the talent of Stevie as a solo artist and the talent of Vanda and Young that led to AC DC.
Edward Nicholassy Stevie Wright was a great lyricist, co-wrote all their hits up to "Friday On My Mind." A UK record producer belittled his writing abilities and that set him on downward spiral into drugs, George Young then teamed up with Harry Vanda to write, by the time he was 23 Stevie was in Sydney working in a shop. If he could have controlled the drugs then he would have been the perfect replacement for Bon Scott in AC/DC ua-cam.com/video/lDJeXu9lCIQ/v-deo.html George Young is backing him in this clip.
Banda and young also had a side kick band called “ flash n the pan” they sang a few great songs in their very sparse free time “ down among the dead men” and “ hey St. Peter “ are but 2 great hits! The former was about the titanic sinking. Cheers from Aus
The 60s were an unparalled era for music world-wide but we Aussies were doubly blessed. We had the overseas songs PLUS we had home-grown groups like this, The Masters, Aztecs, Loved Ones, etc.etc.etc. What a magic time.
Let's don't forget that it wasn't for the fact that Stevie wright was the front man of their band, there would be no Easybeats. Just 3 guitar player's and a drummer, going nowhere. ❤❤❤❤❤❤ We love you stevie rest in peace with George young. Rock on in heaven.😢😢😢😢😢🎉🎉🎉🎉
The Easybeats were incredible. I can no longer dance to them live, but it is wonderful dancing to an Easybeats cover band. The Easybeats music was made for dancing.
And they were not necessary to take the focus off of the easybeats. All we wanted to see was the band performing and to see Stevie wright dancing . He was so cute and sweet ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
.....bloody damn good music with many intricate bits. Little Stevie puts his all into the performance. I thought Friday was pretty good, today this is my favourite . . I got no memory of having heard this number on radio back in the day , but there was the payola racket happening at that time .
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Rick! I bought his very first album and wore it out. I just think the Easybeats, since they aren't well known in the US don't get the props they deserve for opening a door to the international scene for other Aussie bands!
Well paintedship, the Easy's have given so many of us so much pleasure, they all deserve all the peace & prosperity the world can give them. Growing old sucks. I'm thinking of becoming a 'recluse' too. I know I'll be in good company, along with Howard Hughes, Michael Jackson & L. Ron Hubbard...
Wow!! I actually had to refresh my memory on Zoot-thank you for reminding me. I had forgotten that Rick played in that group and they were awesome, too bad they just didn't get the international recognition or Rick's career could've gone in a different direction. And yes they deserve props just like the Easys do!!
@caz4777 That is such great news caz!! I am so tickled to hear that as I have had some worries for his health on several past occasions. When I was on the door of the old Sensoria 'nightclub/dive' in George St in Brisbane opposite Roma St station, in the early 80s, where the huge carpark is now, Dicky was a 'bleeding regular', but needed protection from himself more than anyone else. He mellowed, & I'm very, very pleased to hear yr news caz. I'm the same vintage, so I wish the old bugger well.
Obviously you don't know that these older songs were huge hits in Aussie land!! They have more energy and inventivness than other bands of that era whose careers ended a lot sooner!
.....anyone heard of Edith Piaf & Charles Aznavour ? These two French singers not only sang the songs , they also performed the songs . Little Steve is performing the song brilliantly in this clip . I'm actually thinking they're better than the Beatles , they're certainly better than the Stones . The Stones had woeful stagecraft during this era . Brits were probably worried about an Australian invasion in their music scene , hence the Easybeats didn't thrive in UK . The Seekers , Peter Paul n Mary ,and The Bee Gees all from Australia had become big in UK . Could a pushback by the jealous British music industry have developed and The Easybeats drew the short straw ? Oh , just should mention that The Easy beats in fact absolutely resonated in France .
I really don't know how Rick is regarded in OZ, as I was born and raised in the good ole USA. I will definitely try to find out as you've piqued my curiosity now!! I've heard a few songs off the the shock/anger/denial/acceptance cd; I'm looking to get his newest Venus in Overdrive-the title song sounds great.
@slessorpr I didn't see the documentary that came out last year but I'm sure Dick Diamonde is on it? I don't live in Australia so it's kind of a hard thing to see or find.
60's chicks are hot? Oh please. This was cutting edge rock. I can't begin to explain how pivotal the Easybeats were in the 1960s. As one pound poms presumably (not sure re the Harry Vanda Dutch connection) they were the biggest thing in Australia. As schoolgirls we swooned. they were up there with Rolling Stones
I was going to marry Stevie when I was little but then he would have been like my dad kinda...he oozed sexiness and George looks like Angus in this video...
Bonjour, vous aimez les sixties ? écoutez et podcastez mon émission "le super son des 60's" sur le site de plumfm. You like the 60's ? please, listen and podcast my broadcast "le super son des 60's", connect to "plumfm". Salut et faites gaffe au rock and roll.
Well... George is their brother the dark haired guitarist and blond hair Harry Vanda was a song writing team with George.. and Stevie wright was there all the way
No one ever mentions wooden faced Dicky Diamond playing bass, a painfully plain face compared to Stevie etc and absolutely no spontaneity, but it didn't matter to any of the women. Dicky retired, rich & famous (not) to a VW Kombi Van in Byron Bay. Think he kicked the bucket several years ago now (10?). Good bloke, sad end.
Pure Gold !!
The Easybeats were Awesome!
Brilliantly written and recorded catchy mega hits.

Easybeats - the most underated 60s band. If they'd been from the UK or the US...they would have been HUGE!!!!

George Young....in the history of Aussie music....an absolute legend!

....and maybe aerobics. Those go go lasses are doing aerobics more than dance.
And they were not necessary to take the focus off of the easybeats. All we wanted to see was the band performing and to see Stevie wright dancing . He was so cute and sweet ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I´d completely forgotten this song. Fantastic to hear it again after so many, many years. Luv Little Stevie!!!!
I'll never gonna get sick of this song
Shame they weren’t recognized more...perfect sound for the period...love those simple note riffs in the song very effective🎸👍...RIP George Young
I'm listening to as many Easybeats songs as I can right now and this one kills all!
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Rick! I bought his very first album and wore it out. I just think the Easybeats, since they aren't well known in the US don't get the props they deserve for opening a door to the international scene for other Aussie bands!
Fun song - I've heard Rick Springfield sing this in concert - says it was one of his favorite songs growing up - coool! His version is awesome too.
My favourite Vander young song , love you Stevie
I am going to freaking listen to there whole album tonight!
love lil stevie!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song & clip : )
Easybeats I'll make you happy great music from the sixties classic tune
Friday On My Mind too! work all week.....and what we all think?....FRIDAY nite ! lol
You know what? I was just thinking the same thing. These guys made the Beatles look like alter boys. These guys were every parents worst nightmare!
Wow thats a wild song, great party music, I've got to look for a better sounding version though. Thanks for turning me on to it!
Such a great band and really good clip
This should have been the follow up to Friday on my mind
@Warren552011 realize that but if they had their time again I'd say this one
Would have made a splash then good times and st Louis
I thought this was Rick's song! Didn't know he covered it....love it...makes me wanna dance!
Divinyls covered it nicely too Chrissy was the wild child of Aussie rock
Doskonała kapela!!!! POZDRAWIAM!!!!

Great fun song and true

Brilliant Oz stuff. Was on 6ix earlier today.
If Harry Vander and George Young never met, there would be no AC/DC.
They are in every decade :D
If not for the Easys Rick wouldn't have a career. They opened the door for every Aussie act that followed them and had a damn good career themselves!
Love the easybeats to bits but Zoot schools twilight had in builttalent
Meant skyhooks and twilights had inbuilt talent
Naughty boys! You've only got to look at them.
Miss you Stevie!
great memories.....
great oz rock. The best.

@caz4777 You gave me a true belly laugh then. Very good caz, most appropriate. Another case of 'Je ne sais quoi' resolved!

Esta video se subio 1 año antes de que yo naciera
Heeeeell Yeah!

People called me little Eric when I was little... guess me and Stevie have something in common
Dick Diamonde was just adorable!
GO STEVIE!
גראנג של שנות השישים, פלוס הבנות החמודות
I was going to marry Stevie when I was little but then he would have been like my dad kinda...he oozed sexiness and George looks like Angus in this video...
Aren't they brilliant. And to think Harry and George made a song about the Titanic too!

Which one is George? Or at leastg the one with the ACDC connection.
B uppy Guitarist on the left and sings with blonde Harry Vanda.
Well... George is their brother the dark haired guitarist and blond hair Harry Vanda was a song writing team with George.. and Stevie wright was there all the way
There are better versions on here if you search...
Stevie before drugging
RIP
zoot is nowhere near the easybeats, they're pretty much bottom of the barrel 60s pop and then they tried turning it into heavier rock in the 70s.
They didn't lack talent listen to strange things
No one ever mentions wooden faced Dicky Diamond playing bass, a painfully plain face compared to Stevie etc and absolutely no spontaneity, but it didn't matter to any of the women. Dick had a disarming smile he didn't miss out thinks he's still with us
Harry Vanda is my boyfriend.
