In my secondary school 48 years ago we were taught Domestic Science = cooking, washing, cleaning etc boys & girls together no discrimination we all joined in. I was fortunate to be taught by a farmer’s wife who had been raised through WW2, & a family who lived in Ireland. These skills need to be passed on,
Quite right Redhotcook. The majority of my recipes are what I've made in my bakeries over the past 60 years both in the UK and here in Spain.Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment, I do appreciate that. For more of my recipes go to my website at : mr-pauls-pantry.com/
Exactly the recipe I needed--thank you! Just got a brand new stand mixer, and am keen to see best methodologies for its use. And what a treat it is, to have a professional teach about baking! I absolutely love your channel, and have happily subscribed. (And so true about recipes--if someone tries a recipe and changes even one thing about it, then leaves a bad review, they've clearly misdirected the review.)
Glad it was helpful Lyndsey. Thank you for subscribing and also for watching and taking the time to comment, I do appreciate that. For more of my recipes go to my website at : mr-pauls-pantry.com/

I am a fan of Madeira cake so I thought it would be worth a try. I made it today and it's a delightful cake... knocks spots off Madeira! I made it in a round tin after doing a few calculations, an 8" tin just fits the bill. Thank you very much for this recipe, it will become a firm favourite in our household.
First time made a Madeira cake it turned out beautifully im so happy with myself thank you paul .I'd like to know how to make real loaf bread a simple one if possible thank you x

I was glad to see another video from you. As I was watching, I wondered if you could add any other flavourings? What came to mind was adding orange juice instead of some or all the milk, along with some orange zest. I might try it as an experiment but not until I’ve tried your recipe exactly at least once so I know how it is supposed to turn out. I don’t know what put the orange flavouring in mind this evening. Thank you for your recipes and great instructions with the reasons behind. It’s a great way of teaching the love of what you are doing.

Mr Paul, this reads as a lovely recipe. Thank you. I want to make this for granddaughter s 18 th birthday cake, And I am conscious abt not changing the recipe at all. But I need to make a a bigger one. And a round one Freya tells me. So I need to make a 3 tier 9 inch cake. Help please, cos I think the cake will be perfect. If u don’t think I cld do it, pls say. Thank yiu v much. Maggie
Hi Maggie, this recipe will make a 9 inch cake, not quite as deep as the one I made, just bake three of them, trim the tops level and add your fillings. You can coat the outside either with fondant icing or buttercream. Hope this helps, any questions email me at Paul@Mr-Pauls-Pantry.com
I will try and send you a photo when I have made it. Freya wants to decorate the top, but I am allowed to buttercream it!! She doesn’t like fondant icing!! Thank yiu.

Looks delicious. Will be making this. Have you tried making a Gypsy Tart?. Thank you for yet another lovely easy to follow recipe. Hope you are keeping well and on the up. Much love xx
Yes I have Sarah, I'm from a Gypsy family and I first tasted Gypsy Tart when I was very small, the family were in Kent Hop Picking. We couldn't make it ourselves as we didn't have an oven, all our cooking was on the open fire outside. Thanks for watching. x
Hi Sarah, If yoiu don't have a recipe let me know and I'll send you one, but use email please as these message are very difficult to find. My address is; Paul@Mr-pauls-Pantry.com
I tried to get the recipe on your website but could not find it. You explained that the long mixing time after the addition of the eggs was to help the eggs leaven better. I’m curious about the long creaming time. Is that also to work air in (to the butter) or is it to dissolve the sugar or something else?
Check again, it's here; mr-pauls-pantry.com/rich-butter-cake/ also under the video. NO, air is not required for this recipe, it relies on the eggs to raise the cake.
Yes you can, but it's the butter that gives the distinctive flavour, that's why it's called 'Butter Cake'. Be careful to use Hard Margarine as the soft tub type contains a lot pf water.
Hello Dorothy, I'm sorry, but there's no such thing as as a vegan Butter Cake. It's the eggs and butter that gives this cake it's flavour and texture. You might like to try this link for a delicious Vegan Vanilla Cake: thebigmansworld.com/easy-vanilla-cake/#recipe
Another great recipe. I could almost smell the butter and vanilla.

I don't have a mixer but I'm still tempted to make this, should I just mix it for longer? I enjoy mixing by hand so much more!
You don't have to mix it longer just make sure it's almost white and very soft and fluffy.
Hi can you please show treacle sponge thank you
Hi Rima, my Treacle Sponge recipe is at this link: mr-pauls-pantry.com/treacle-sponge/

Mister Paul, I think my oven only heats from below, not also above. It has a broiler element above. Do you think this cake would work in that oven?
Hi, yes providing the oven gets to the correct temperature and you bake it in the middle of the oven, not lowdown. Good luck.
wonderful tin, you could bake a whole wedding cake! too big for my oven :-(
Yes you can Kelvin, but as I explained, it was an emergency move as I simply can't put my hands quite a few things since my dear wife passed.
Excellent, Mr. Paul. Huuuuuuug.
Thank you Courtney, you're most kind.
Mr Paul, can you pls advise me about OTG settings for cakes and cookies
Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean.
Can I use the margarine instead of butter
Yes you can, but it's the butter that gives the distinctive flavour, that's why it's called 'Butter Cake'. Be careful to use Hard Margarine as the soft tub type contains a lot pf water.
