- Sometimes, dating a Chinese girl is not all moonlight and roses, at least not according to our Audio Podcast guest, Jonas!
Jonas outline 8 major complaints that many Chinese guys have about dating Chinese girls:
1. Girls are domineering
2. Girls are clingy
3. Girls always expect guys to consider their emotions
4. Girls accuse guys of being “straight men”
5. Girls like to escalate a minor problem into a bigger one
6. Girls mess with other guys whom they say are just friends
7. Girls always want a gift on festivals
8. Girls always doubt guys’ loyalty

So good! The fact that this video came out right in the International Woman's Day is hilarious!
38 (international women's day date|) is slang for a b**ch in Chinese slang. Perhaps it's not a coincidence.

I don't learn Chinese language, but I find your videos very interesting to watch and to learn about Chinese culture and different topics in general. Congratulations with 100k subscribers.
Well, you really maxed out on this one: this is more than language but an opening into the human psych or at least a somewhat frustrating part of it. You are stretching us to think not only in Mandarin but in terms of some essential parts of ourselves as well. Wow! Very impressive!
Totally agree with you Ian.
@@mvdmusicvideostorefreshthe3224 Thanks: my Mandarin isn't up to much but Mandarin Corner provides some really interesting content so that I always listen simply because of the insights it provides, and Eilen is so sweet, amenable and quite funny at times. She certainly comes across well.
@@ianrowcliffe Cheers Ian, yes, I found this particular video insightful too, although I have met a number of Chinese students and they have seemed naive, but now with Western influence, things seem to be changing in China as they are less insular and they are affected by the exposure of the West. I don't know if you live in the UK but I have seen a massive change in every aspect since the 70's, unbelievable really, so I guess this is the same for China too. If you are interested in Mandarin you might like a young lady called Chelsea, she's Chinese but speaks excellent English and presents it well, although she's a bit crazy / funny, also Shuoshuo Chinese, she brings out aspects that others seem to omit. Yes, Eileen is personable.
This podcast is so funny. I laughed a lot 😂😂😂 Eileen please invite him again to do a podcast. He is so funny

Exactly. Attractive guy, he shouldn't put up with his gf's BS. There are Asian women that don't nag and don't do any of this to their bf.
@@Re3iRtH The submissive or traditional women are mostly in less developed area, I don't think men will have interest to date them if they can find one in large city with decent job.

All these girls/women sound like a nightmare to me. I'm French and this behavior wouldn't fly here passed middle school. The lack of maturity is terrible. I just feel like you can just communicate with people (no matter who they are) in a respectful manner and try to solve conflicts or problems. No need for unnecessary drama. I'd never date someone like this...

I dated a chinese girl for 8 months, and I'm a caucasian (french) canadian. She was great, but there was definitely some cultural things I had to learn. She was much wealthier than me, but still expected me to pay for many things and to take her out. Also to hold her bags when shopping, which took forever. She also wasn't super affectionate, and whenever we were in public we had to be super "proper" and could only hold hands and nothing else. Other than that though, she was pretty awesome :) It just didn't work out because in the end we weren't super compatible.
Imo...bills should be paid 50/50. Holding her bags is fine, I can cooperate if she's cooperative too. Being proper in public is mature to me, people here act as though they're teenagers who've found their first gf/bf and wanna show them off everyone just like a kid showing their toys.
Congratulations on 100 k subscribers. You are the best!
Great Eileen!! Loved so much!
100k! 恭喜恭喜,爱林 ☺️☺️☺️
My congrats on 100K subscribers. Great video as always.
I should say my Chinese husband is sooo perfect to me. He always wants to do something good for me, sometimes it is too annoying. In the past he had relationship with Chinese girl and may be it affected him 😂
If you don't mind, may I know what is your ethnic or country?
Likely so, sadly for me, listening to my parents advice about relationships made me screw things up. I listened to my friends and thats when things worked better. I feel like chinese view of relationships tend to be too invasive of a person's self autonomy and personal space. Your a queen for understanding your husband and staying by his side
congrats on 100k subs!I love this channel!
Very good presentation, thanks. The amount of work for the translation shows clearly and raises the value of the video considerably, at least to those who are studying the language.
I think it goes both ways, some of the complaints. Some men can be controlling, of course. I bet the complaints can in many cases have another side that can in fact be justified, so it can be confusing to interpret at face value. So some complaints are about issues intrinsic in any relationship but can still be grating, like sacrifice of enjoyable activities to benefit the significant other. Communication is a big issue, too, and mood.
Love your podcasts 🌟
Congrats for the 100k subs
really nice work! I loved this format 👏👏
Very Goos Ellen!!!! We also learn Chinese culture with your videos, and the view of the Chinese mind
This was definitely a great podcast as always eileen and a even greater discussion the guy you were interviewing was hilarious 😂 #I got a fucking son
I enjoyed this video a lot. The guy is sooo funny and has elaborated the issues meticulously with examples. Although this was aired 2 years ago I just came across it as I recently started learning mandarin. I would like to see Jonas talk more on other topics like this too.
I haven't listened to the podcast yet, but I met a Sichuan girl yesterday and chatted with her in Chinese. I was charmed, she wasn't.. :p
✌️😂🍿
The answer to this problem is to enjoy your life as a single man and then you can spend your time watching these videos learning Chinese or anything else you want to do and be super happy that none of this mentioned in the video will happen to you but to some other poor schmuck
No greater pleasure than freedom and self-sovereignty. There really is no need to fall into the trap of tradition if you don't want to have a kid.
If you end up with a decent person, you can do it together and not worry about the nonsense either.

16:35 LOL whoever came up with that is genius!
This was fun and educational! Thank you.
haha this was a really fun lesson! can't wait for the next episode on the women's prospective !
Interesting, but to me as a Westerner, I find it hard to take this seriously. Why are these men putting up with childish, ridiculous nonsense? Are they men or children? Respect your woman and do good things for her, but you are not her slave! One has to compromize in a relationship, but it's no way I would put up with anyone demanding that I account for every hour of my life, or place my accept physical punishment, or such. Likewise, I would also not try to control her. You must give each other a certain amount of trust and room for personal freedom.
Facts
Firstly its cause its a cultural phenomenon so alot of chinese men tolerate this.
Secondly, chinese mothers are tiger moms, so often times a chinese man's upbringing is mentally abusive and so he has all forms of mental strength and desire to stand his ground beaten or scared out of him as a child
对我来说, 在UA-cam上,这是最好的教汉语的频道。每个视频都有正宗的汉语,每次看完后感觉我学到了很多。谢谢您!

I wanna see what chinese women don't usually like in a relationship too haha
Chinese women are most materialistic and they get to choose as there are far too many Chinese men. The host won't answer you to protect her pride. I can tell you that Chinese women don't like men that they considered poor and very short sighted. A good looking guy with degree level education but earning average income is treated as hopeless.

I love the interviews they are so funny!
In China, in Italy, or another culture....growing up as a single child, a mamma-boy or a daddy-princess, will shape you into a person more self-centered and less willing to share and give, a person constantly demanding attention. It takes a strong character and an engaging society to ameliorate these traits.
That's a rather large generalization. The one-child policy (they've raised it to two now) and general upbringing culture in China definitely causes a higher rate of these cases, but you can see with one-child families in any country that it is not the sole deciding factor, and there is a significant number of single children that grow up to be perfectly fine, though they must rely more on their peer relationships to develop interpersonal skills and principles. The other main factor besides being a single child is ultimately the parenting, and I think that should be focused on a little more. There's a culture of grandparents spoiling and parents being strict with children, which may contribute to people developing self-centered behavior and high expectations of others. Women are also a rather strong force culturally in a Chinese household, which is what the man in the video was talking about. Even with that, his words can be taken with a grain of salt, as the anecdotes he brings are just anecdotes: subjective accounts based on one side of the story. We don't know how good of a boyfriend these guys are or if the stories have been modified, though the general trends of their complaints can be surmised.
@@alexlei2235 I agree and I have changed and toned down my comment. Yet I have directly experienced at least two such people in my life. There is a clear pattern of behavior in these people though the whole issue is a more complex one. And no, it's not a "Chinese phenomenon".
the line of divorce is actually longer than the happy day red books😂
my cousin who is chinese american acts like this way too even though and she was born in US . She watches a lot of chinese dramams. I think all those chinese shows have a similar portrayal of relationships w/ chinese women and she picked it up the culture from her mom and the shows
One thing I thought was interesting; women who are more successful expect the guy to pay because their standards are higher.
But here in the States it is the opposite; the more independent a woman is, the more she appreciates not having to rely on the man to pay for everything. Of course I am generalizing, but predominantly this is the culture here in the US.
I saw this question and immediately thought "Of course not". But after watching the video I see that these complaints about Chinese women are universal for females everywhere. Some cultures just emphasize maturity more than others, but you'll find this kind of woman everywhere and in every woman if you allow it.
Great comment I actually think the greater of this video should examine it from both Chinese and non Chinese perspective and draw similarities and list differences. It's better for cultural exchanges that way.
are you serious?? "in every women if you allow it?" Not all women are "deep inside" some kind of mom or dominatrix for their partners.
Many women just want an equal partnership - though local culture may sometime not allow/valorize this.
Understand Eileen at normal speed is doable, but Jonas is too hard. Watching on 0.75 speed makes it much easier!
Agree. Ive listened to him say 然后 several times and still cant figure out his pronunciation
@@proxypylon One of the obvious accent Jiangxi people have is that they replace R sound with L sound. So, he probably pronounced ranhou as lanhou.
@@MandarinCorner2 sometimes it even sounded like "laou" with no (or almost no) nasalization of the 'a' vowel and an 'h' so weak I couldn't hear it. Quite interesting!

Your videos are such an interesting look into real people and culture in China. I am seeing some similar videos in Russia too. I really enjoyed the conversation and the humor, great video! Although I have a doubt about the label "Intermediate Chinese", since it appeared to be full speed and advanced level.
1) You can use the UA-cam speed controls to slow down the video. It is the gear icon on the lower right of the video frame.
2) Yes, we aware that the level is advanced but, the reason we still say this is suitable for intermediates is because we provide full hanzi, pinyin and English translations. Our videos are for intermediates who seek for a way to consume advanced content.

1. To the guys : Always choose money not women because women choose guys with money. 2. If you have a girlfriend and she is clingy, be thankfull for that becaus that means she only needs your attantion and not attantion from other guys. 3. The biggest weapon women has is thier mouth. A woman can destroy a guy with just a view words. But the biggest weapon of a man is to be silent and just leaving. If you are a succesfull man (it means you have money, cars houses and so on) the woman has to play your rules because your rules are the succesfull rules. If she trys to dominate you, put her back in place or she belongs to the streets. It is that simpel.
YES!!!!!I pray for a chance to be in that type of energy and again YES absolutely, love to.

1:46 can anyone tell me, is "chayi" normally used as an adjective? My dictionary says it is only a noun, but here it appears to be an adjective. Or is "yousou" the verb, and "chayi" the noun? Can you say "... ye hui chayi"?
It is a noun. So you suo cha yi means, it has difference, thus, different.
很有意思。谢谢!!!
Interesting 👍👍
100% yes. I dated and met quite a few in college and they were pretty independent but maybe they're different since they're willing to travel outside their homeland and comfort zone. Pretty sure there are a good number of high maintenance or difficult women in every country.
Doesnt matter, they will still pull all the sajiao crap on ya xD as someone whose ethnically chinese theres a reason why i have a dating policy of "no chinese girls"
Excellent video. I am still HSK1 level or even more novice than that. But it was a topic I was curious about. And I found out that the downside to dating Chinese women is the downside to dating women from any culture or country. I think these traits are common with all women regardless of where they are from. If you deeply care about the woman you are dating, then I think the guy will tolerate your flaws and focus on remaining loyal to her. All the other things don't matter as much for him
