    Literally was thinking " if I buy a new bag it would be cool if I could take my board, my climbing/gym gear and my work laptop" welp, you showed me it's possible

      Glad this helped, be warned don’t leave small items in the big compartment. It’s a deep cavern and always ends up at the bottom! Let me know how you get on

    i tried about 10 different backpacks and landed on this one. literally got it today. tried the 25l as well, but i was looking for something that i could use as a daily carry pack and convert to a short trip bag, which was a profile that fit this bag perfectly. so far, happy with the harness system and organisation. hopefully it serves me well for my usage.

      It’s a great bag and I’ve bought a lot over the years and this one has been the best so far! Which colour did you get yours in?

      @@DanEscapes hey hey. Sorry, weird issue with my notifications. I got the black one with the neon green text. So far so good.

    I had the previous version of the larger Blackhole backpack, the 30 L. Initially I liked it, but over time, the floppiness of the bag started to really annoy me. Stuff would just fly around and the bag would look sloppy from the outside. I would like for it to have some sort of backplate to add some structure. This "floppyness" and sloppy look is something that the whole Black Hole series suffers from, if you ask me. My MLC 45 is no different.
    And while 30 L sounded like it was enough, it really wasn't. Yet I could pack the same stuff in a different 25 L bag with room to spare. That points to a problem with how the compartments were laid out. Also, the version I had had a single row of daisy chain down the middle which to me was pretty pointless. I also had the problem with the waterbottle pouches: they were nice and deep, but too flexible, so my bottles would come flying out if I bent over the wrong way to tie my shoes or if I swung the bag around my shoulders too enthousiastically.

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes  2 роки тому +4

      I get what you mean, but I prefer the floppiness over the stiff bags. I’ve had so many different back packs over the years and I guess you find which one suits your needs. I found the ridged back packs were just abit too heavy especially when I overload it with heavy camera gear.
      I’ve had the same problem with the water bottle in this one, definitely needs some sort of grip to hold it in place, in the end I took one of my climbing carabiners and clipped that to the daisy chain and works very well.
      What’s your favourite bag at the moment?

    • @dutchbachelor

      @@DanEscapes I also don't mean fully rigid bags, but the Black Hole simply does not have a shape it naturally wants to assume. I also have a Lundhags Gnaur 10+ (too small for that purpose), also not a "stiff" bag but it "springs" into a natural form.
      Maybe I should also clarify what I my bags need to carry: it's my Office bag, so it's mostly the laptop, charger, Roost stand, external keyboard and mouse, mousepad, notebook, writing utensils, Klean Canteen travel mug. I am an IT guy, so an iFixit kit, a Multimeter, batteries and some other accoutrements also often go in the bag.
      The daisy chain on my Black Hole did not work at all for me as it had only one down the middle of the bag, too far away to hook the bottle into it. That's probably why they are now using two in the new version.
      Currently I am switching back and forth between three bags depending on the "mission":
      Savotta ALC 16" - my minimalist setup
      Lundhags Hakken 25 - longer days, travel, multiple locations and if I need room for more stuff
      Gusti Leder "Elmar" - if I need to look professional, used on most days

    Hi Dan, after using the pack for a while, do you still like the separate compartment for the laptop. I’m trying to decide if the 2nd set of zippers would be annoying vs a laptop sleeve in the main compartment such as in the 25l and many other bag.

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes  3 роки тому +1

      Really love that there’s a separate compartment for the laptop and haven’t really noticed the second set of zippers even when I’m not using it. My friend has the 25l and she sometimes wishes she had more space and would love the idea of a separate laptop compartment. But it’s entirely up to, if you don’t think you’ll need it and the extra space then I’d say go with the 25l, would recommend the bigger one though if your always carrying your laptop as it feels more secure.

    hi mate. How does the material hold up to the rub of grip tape? do you have you skateboard on there often?

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Andrew, looking at the bag now there seems to be some small signs of wear near the top and more so on the nylon webbing. Nothing for me to be worries about, I was using it alot during the summer when I would cycle to the skatepark 3 times a week, not so much these days being winter here in the UK. I think if you're going to be using it everyday carrying the board it will breakdown quickly. Have you used other bags to carry your board?

    where did u get the straps for the daisy chains from?

    • @DanEscapes

      Hey Daniel,
      I got them from amazon, I can’t remember exactly which ones I go but make sure they’re not too wide even the ones I got it was a bit of a struggle to thread the plastic clips through. I can only get mine in the top and bottom loop as they are the widest. They are also very long, you can cut them down but I just looped it a few ways so least I have to option to get something bigger on the back like a tent etc. Hope this helps!

    Hi Dan you mentioned that you've been in a heavy rain and all of the stuffs were dry. Would staying in a heavy rain for 30 minutes without rain be harmless to electronic devices with the patagonia backpack? And if it is not, can you recommend me a backpack that doesn't look much like a hiking backpack, but fully waterproof?
    Thank you

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes  Рік тому +2

      It won’t be fully waterproof but definitely water resistant. I haven’t have any problems with it soaking through. You can buy a waterproof cover if you’re traveling with lots of electronics to be safe. Hope that helps and let me know if you have any more questions.

    Hey I am currently contemplating to buy this bag and the review really convinced me, just one quick question. Where did you get the straps you attached to the daisy chain. I thought the daisy chain was cool but I would love straps like I have on my really old element backpack to attach a skateboard or like a yoga mat, so that would really be practical if that was possible with this one too :)

      Hey Alex, it's a great bag and still using it till this date. My girlfriend also has one and she loves it aswell. Would love some robust straps like i had on an old skateboard bag (think it was from Cline). I just bought mine from amazon, been trying to find the link but cannot find it anywhere. I write this to another user so see if this helps "I did use the very top daisy chain link and the very bottom one as they were the biggest. I measured the top and it’s 4cm and the bottom is 3.5 cm. It was very difficult at the beginning to thread through the plastic clips but with patients, pure determination and cursing I managed to get them through." Let me know if you found anything online and try to get something around 3cm wide.

    What size laptop is that? Is there a slight amount of room in the compartment, or is it loose?

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes  2 роки тому +2

      I’ve got the 16 inch MacBook Pro, it fits pretty well there’s only some slight movement meaning you could probably fit a thicker laptop. There’s a buckle at the top to stop it from falling out of the compartment. I’ve also carried a 13inch MacBook Pro and that felt secure in there even with the extra space. Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions

      Amazing to hear and thanks for watching!! I’ve been trying to find my purchase on Amazon but can’t seem to find it anywhere also recently I’ve taken them off as I had a lot of slack and got a tight corridor to get out the front door and kept getting caught on stuff. I can’t seem to find them so can’t measure them, I did use the very top daisy chain link and the very bottom one as they were the biggest. I measured the top and it’s 4cm and the bottom is 3.5 cm. I'm currently torn between getting a 25 vs 32L version of this. Apart from losing 1 row of loops and the opening laptop compartment what would you say are the pros of getting the 25L one?

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes  3 роки тому +5

      The pros would be a smaller pack if you don't need something so big like the 32l , bit more slim line and won't make you look like you've got a tortoise shell. For me the real resons I wanted the 32l was for the padded laptop sleeve and being able to carry gear to and from the gym. Sorry if this is a rubbish answer I haven't really tried out the 25L.

      So far I have been able to take it on as carry on, I think the budget airlines can be a bit funny but I think they can pick you at random if they’re not happy with the size of your bag especially if you haven’t paid for the bigger bags to take on board. Great bag and still going strong 3 years on!

      The mini MLC is a really nice back with lots of organisation and pockets. The back pack is good if you just want to throw stuff in and I think I lighter pack (I’d have to check). Plus you can carry a water bottle on the side if that’s something you want. What will you be using the bag for?
