    Can you start a route and change your mind mid route and head back via same path? Or once started you need to tale whole route there because it’s one way route there and one way route back?

    Just got mine and jumped online to see other people’s thoughts. My initial thought is absolute rubbish and I’m remorseful about my purchase. I agree with your points, the main thing that is critical to a tripod is that it’s level and this one isn’t! As soon as you extend the legs and put the camera on it tilts to one side! Perhaps it’s just mine but it fails as that miserably… disappointing purchase 😢 The concept is great but as a tripod, I think I’ll stick with my Osmo Pocket gimble. Oh and another downfall they claim the MagSafe works which it does in my car on the wireless charging pad but when I connected to the Belkin stand it magnetically attaches to, it doesn’t charge at all.

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes День тому

      Yeah it’s not been great. It works best as a way to hold your phone in selfie mode. But definitely better more stable tripod holders on the market. The wireless mag safe charger works fine on one of my wireless pads but others it doesn’t want to charge. Bit annoying and will probably change my case soon.

    how does the SL5 compare with a high end steel gravel bike like a Fairlight Secan 3? split between this and the Secan for a all-purpose bike between commuting, gravel and 2-3 day bikepacking rides

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes День тому

      If I’m being honest I would prefer high end steel, very sturdy and you can bend back into place. The fairlight looks like a great bike especially if you’re touring. Cables are exposed so easy to maintain yourself. Just depends if you want all the cables hidden away on the check point.

    Clearly the rear rack system is the best thing available, but, oy the price! I got rear rack that detaches from the mount bracket. That seems like a much better option because you can easily detach the bag and take it with you instead of carrying the whole bag and bracket. But, why no panniers? Seems like a waste to have those mounting brackets and no bags. I have 10 L bags for each side. Like the week after I bought them they came out with 16 L bags,

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes День тому

      I was going to get the rack system but cost got me. Was cheaper to buy the built in version. I haven’t found it that hard taking it on and off the bike though. I will be buying the pannier bags at a later date, when I have some bigger trips planned that’s when I’ll get it, for now I don’t need them yet. That’s annoying they came out with the larger bags. I really like the look of their handle bar bag aswell and they’ve now released a full length top tube bag. I’ve constantly got my frame bags on when I ride, so handy to carry everything.

      Really depends on your riding style. For me a gravel bike means you can push as hard and easier to keep up with road ride groups. Really depends on your legs though. Mainly I like having the drop bar as you can move into different positions on long rides.

    The Checkpoint looks the goods but in Australia you pay a premium and get a lowest gear of 40 - 44. If you want to ride up a steep hill with or without a load that just isn't good enough! Yes you can go for the transmission at an extra expense! BUT ... Isn't it aimed at the go anywhere crowd?

    • @DanEscapes

      I agree, I feel seam xplr groupsets should come with the larger cassette. But that’s how they make their money. Shimanos 1x GRX comes with a 52t cassette. I’m still thinking of getting one, maybe the sl5 and put the GX transmission derailleur.

      Checkpoint is still a great bike even if you don’t upgrade the parts. Personally I’d recommend changing the tires but depends what’s you’re riding. Here it can get very muddy so needed that extra bite and grip.

    • @APham-ld9do

      @@DanEscapes , this Checkpoint SL 5 is definitely the smoothest riding bike I've ever had. I came from riding hardtail mountain bikes. I know the stock Bontrager GR1s are pretty horrible relative to available gravel tires, but I am only riding rail trails and light gravel. With my mountain bikes, I always upgrade tires immediately. But even though I know that the GR1s are inferior, I still feel the bike performs well enough for my current usage. I feel my willingness to ride on these tires means that I've landed at the place where I've been looking for. A bike that I simply want to ride without the incessant feeling that I need to upgrade this or that. Getting ready to go ride in a couple hours...

    My mission a year or 2 ago, was to find a none-alcoholic beer that tasted close to a real beer. I have to date tasted a range of them from 36 different breweries. I unfortunately have not found any that tastes like beer. They were all rubbish, and I vowed to never to buy another non-alcoholic beer until I got conned into buying a box of Days. Well I have just had the Pale Ale and IPA. I'll be kind and say that I was not surprised on how bad it is and that it's just another brand promoting what they think is real tasting beer. Days and all the other brewers have no idea what real tasting beer tastes like. Who in their right mind should take a sip of this and say, that hit the spot. No no no, Days, you lot are freaking delusional if you think that your watered down LME mixed with soda water resembles beer. Which planet do these people live on🤷🏼‍♂️

    Been riding for over 3 decades and finally purchased a 9.8 on an interest free loan thru Trek w/ zero regrets!… it will be last bike I buy!! 💪🏼🪶😁 I had no problem selling my Gen 6 Fuel EX 9.9 (got it free upgrade from Trek on warranty… I get free frames cause ride them till they break!🤓🤑) and honestly can’t tell the additional 8.6 lbs… specially if properly pre-load on DH and use motor uphill. I could go on and on, but will end with this advice… really take time to fine tune the TQ motor so can really make it the last bike you’ll buy!… depending on settings I get to choose between acoustic & eMTB for my Strava rides. Btw, I can actually beat friends w/ Trek Rail on climbs in same shape as me cause EX-e is sooo much more efficient!

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes 20 днів тому

      Both the fuel ex and exe are great bikes and amazing you got some great deals! What I love about the fuel exe is you still have to work, when I rode the rail I pretty much left it in turbo the whole time. People are starting to compare motors with the new dji, as they are now making lighter powerful motors but I feel this is a different experience. I want to work out when I ride and just need that little help when I need it. One bike I would love to try is the Slash + but it’s way too much bike for me, I don’t ride enough park or enduro to warrant one. In my mind would love to enter some enduro events.

Trek has a great warranty, but they were out of Emonda frames so I end up getting a Madonna frame for replacement. So I was in the market for an aluminum frame bike, but I went with the Domani RL Because it was going to be basically stuck on the trainer all year. It seems pointless to have a standard presta core remover on the top cap because once fitted it has no reason to be there. Is the easier to pump up feeling just psychosomatic?

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes Місяць тому

      I guess it means you do not need to buy a tool if you don’t already have one, makes for an easier install. I do notice the difference with my home pump and I’ve now installed these of my mtb. Makes pumping up higher volume tires a lot quicker. The biggest plus by far, no clogging is sealant. I’ve had to replace a number of valve cores in the past due to the sealant I use and this means I’ve haven’t had to constantly replace. Would highly recommend if you have the same problem.

    I switched my handlebars to the "PRO LT gravel". 40cm wide, 10° flare and 65mm reach. Made it perfect for me. The stock bars were too wide and had too much flare, this way i also shortened the bike a bit! If you are 1m75 and taller, go for the 54cm size with some minor changes! 52cm is really tiny.

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes Місяць тому

      Great handle bar choice. I was looking at the ritcheys originally. I did try the 52 and it definitely was a more comfortable fit, alas I have the 54 and have now made it work for myself and love it!

  • @cerocerocinco
    @cerocerocinco 2 місяці тому

    I have a Checkpoint gen 2 and it's sad they ruined the geometry (just so they can reduce the number of sizes). I now have a size 54 and i always have been on the verge of a size 56. The new M is 12mm shorter, and even an ML is 6mm shorter then my 54cm. Ok lets go with the ML then ... the headtube on the ML is 30mm! higher then on my current Checkpoint. I would have to go for an M and put a longer, negative 15 degrees stem on it, making it look like freaks bike :D. I dont race, i dont consider my position the be very racy but they kinda push people like me to go for a (very expensive) Checkmate.

    • @DanEscapes
      @DanEscapes 2 місяці тому

      @@cerocerocinco it’s a hot topic with sizing, I guess I’ve seen a lot of people with the checkpoint wanting it more like an endurance bike, so really like the feel of a domane but on a gravel bike. The gen 2 I got a 54 but wished I got a 52 with as I had to put on a small stem on mine to reduce the reach. But that’s the bike world if you can find a company that fits then go with them, if not go full custom.

    Hi Dan, right now in the proces of buying a checkpoint gen3 and kind struggling with sizing. Trek size chart says i'm at the end of size M\L being 178cm(5'9\5'10) with a 83,5cm(33inch) inseam but when I look at the geo charts I'm feeling like the M would be a better fit. What is your overall experience with the Trek size chart? Is it accurate? Thank you in advance! :)

    • @DanEscapes

      It’s hard to say, the best thing as always is try the bike out. I rode the ML and tbh it felt pretty comfy and I would usually ride on a M, I’m 5ft8. I would only look at the size chart as a rough guide and always look to try the bike out. Have you got a trek store or dealer close by?
