Low key pissed that the only attention Hadestown received was a two second shot of Reeve kneeling during that performance and they chose a Dance number from a revival over an original show that was clearly better.
I think Hadestown is the single greatest piece of art created maybe ever, but the Kiss Me Kate performance was incredible. Hadestown is better as a show, but for a Tony's stage Kiss me Kate was just better.
Being LGBT, I have to give HUGE props to the cast of "Hamilton" in 2016 for their respects to what happened in the Pulse nightclub. I somehow missed seeing this performance at the Tonys that year.
and their response to scamilton. a church illegally changed and put on the show making it homophobic. Lin donated the money won through the case to an LGBTQ+ charity
That’s what I was wondering. I am a HUGE Six fan and I’ve never heard of Paradise Square before that performance and with the standing ovation, everyone knew what they were gonna get themselves into if they went to the whole show. I was throughly surprised when it wasn’t even mentioned
Was legit getting ready to write! She made me want to see that show and emoted exactly what we were supposed to feel at that part of the show...not to mention she sang her ass off
That's what I just commented. I even downvoted the video even though I agree with a lot of the picks. That was a MISS! That's one of the greatest Tony performances I've ever seen!
I mean...I cried and I hadn't ever had of paradise square, but it was incredible. Also Cynthia Erivo won a Tony for the color purple. The medley they'd done was amazing! 🖤
“You can’t stop the beat” is the greatest finale group number for any musical that I can remember. I can’t think of a song that makes me want to sing along or dance for that matter more than this one. And with the choreography and energy level, demanding everything an actor can give of course it’s nicknamed “You can’t stop to breathe”.
THE COLOR PURPLE 2016 performance is THE BEST performance I have ever seen live on the Tony’s. I get that Hamilton is a good musical but THE COLOR PURPLE was phenomenal!
2016 was absolutely STACKED. Both Hamilton and The Color Purple gave me the biggest goosebumps I've ever had and frankly either getting the crown from that year is fair imo
Hell, I’d argue that the Waitress and School of Rock performances were both better than the Hamilton performance, but only one swept the Tony’s that year.
Can I just say the 2019 performance of Beetlejuice was missing from this list? Super happy with In the Heights and Hamilton being on this list. This list is pretty solid
I’m sorry but Newsies performance was way better than Once. Not saying Once’s performance was bad (cause it wasn’t), but Newsies was just way better. It was energetic, captivating, and as you said - made us want to buy tickets before their performance was over. Newsies should’ve been the one listed on here and Once should’ve been an honorable mention.
I understand your logic. My heart just personally moves to Once. Why do I sob when the story ends exactly how I want? But Newsies makes me want to join the rebellion.
Are y'all seriously not including The Color Purple Revival (2016) and Paradise Square (2022) both amazing performances who received STANDING OVATIONS??? :(
@@ChienaAvtzon it depends. I love come from away, it's one of my very favorite musicals ever and while I do think it should have won, the comet was also great and I wouldn't have been mad if they had won. Meanwhile while nice, DEH should definitely not have won against either them.
Although I like the "In the Heights" film quite a bit, I really, REALLY want to see this musical on stage. Thank you for the shout-out to "Next to Normal." Such a powerful score.
I'm super impressed that you decided to pick Kinky Boots (my favorite musical ever) for 2013 even though there were so many great performances that year - Matilda, Pippin, Bring It On, etc.
Thank you for including The Wild Party and the song when it ends with Eattha Kitt, she take your breath away. I wish that she would had won the Tony for best featured actress in a musical because nobody remember Karen Ziemba in Contact because that show is the reason there was a new category introduced. Berndatte Peters in Gyspy with Rose's turn is brilliant.
Thanks for the shoutout for Company! Raul Esparza is my ultimate Bobby. I love the minimalist staging and the use of the ensemble as the orchestra. So classy! ♥️
I'm sorry, but there were so many amazing performances like Hadestown that were overshadowed in this video. Picking a dance number from a revival over a diamond in the rough like "Wait For Me" when it was an original piece doesn't sit right with me.
Good list of Tonys performances, the musical I liked was Hamiton, but the song I like out of this list is hands down Natasha, Pierre &The Great Comet of 1812, I love Josh Groban, and all of his songs, top 10 Josh Groban's songs for a MsMojo or WatchMojo would be nice, good work on this video. 👍
Josh Groban truly is one of a kind, i FINALLY got to see him perform live last June and it was an outstanding performance. My mom had shelled out the extra money to get us 4th row VIP tickets it was truly an unforgettable experience
I have to say, I think Come From Away is one of my favourite musicals and it's forever gonna be my favourite Tony performance. Maybe not the best my typical standards, but my favourite none the less.
Okay, I liked Next to Normal. But be real! For 2009, there's only ONE answer: Titus Burgess leading an absolutely SPECTACULAR rendition of "Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat" from the revival of Guys & Dolls.
Im sorry, but Beetlejuice was probably one of the BEST performances from 2019. Their opening number is always great. Should've been the option for 2019.
"Along Came Bialy" has a very special place in my heart because I got to be in a local production of "The Producers" in 2008. "Six" I love because I'm an uber Tudor history nerd!
In The Heights is my favorite! Thought that night the energy was as good and rememberable as Rent. I will play that clip on repeat even today. Also loved Spamalot's "Find Your Grail".
Josh Groban is criminally underrated! He has already been nominated for several Tony Awards but other people won them. I don’t understand? At least he should have WON the Tony for Sweeney Todd!
The tap performance in ‘Anything Goes’ was amazing, I know it’s a cliche but the really don’t make them like that anymore! It takes a different kind of skill and talent and always entertains - nothing like 40 tappers all in sync!
Am I the only that thinks You Can’t Stop the Beat is overrated. I’m sorry but Bernadette Peters performance was one of the best Tony Awards performances of all time not just 2003. Especially if your a Broadway fan.
I feel that way about almost everything from Hairspray. The songs really succeed at selling the high-energy fun of the show and the colourful personalities of the characters, but they're not songs or performances very high in my rewatch list.
The craziest thing about The Wild Party is that there was another show that debuted that same season also called The Wild Party based on the same source material. Both casts were full of insanely talented people.
This is the worst list Ms Mojo has ever compiled. They really just picked the most well known show out of every year even when that show did not give the best performance. I’m as big of a fan of Wicked as one can get and even I know that Wicked did not give the best performance that night. Y’all really need to get real with these lists for once in your life.
Part of the reason that the performance for Wicked wasn't top notch is because Idina was actually having an asthma attack while in the flight harness already and her rescue inhaler was either backstage or in her dressing room. The Orchestra was also a bit faster, so that definitely didn't help things along. You can actually hear Idina gasping for breath in the clip that they use to show her singing.

I still rewatch Sutton’s Anything Goes performance. She’s a freaking superhuman.
Yes!! Agreed! That was a performance for the Ages. Truly legendary! 😱😊👍❤
yes!!! that one and her rehearsal vid
Couldn't agree more. Just breathtaking 😋
Sutton is a freakin GODDESS!!
I met her after the show.. She was so nice (as was the rest of the cast)
Hadestown was way better than the Kiss me Kate performance, let’s be real here for a second
Low key pissed that the only attention Hadestown received was a two second shot of Reeve kneeling during that performance and they chose a Dance number from a revival over an original show that was clearly better.
It’s called an opinion they made theirs and you have yours
Hadestown was incredible
I think Hadestown is the single greatest piece of art created maybe ever, but the Kiss Me Kate performance was incredible. Hadestown is better as a show, but for a Tony's stage Kiss me Kate was just better.
Nah , kiss me Kate was better
I love Six the Musical, but last year Joaquina Kalukango in Paradise Square... SHUT IT DOWN!!! Her performance was BREATHTAKING!!
100% Joaquina is so extraordinary 🤗
Agree!!
I really don't understand how the "Paradise Square" performance in 2022 didn't even get a mention. It got a friggin STANDING OVATION! Seriously:(
That’s what I was wondering. I am a HUGE Six fan and I’ve never heard of Paradise Square before that performance and with the standing ovation, everyone knew what they were gonna get themselves into if they went to the whole show. I was throughly surprised when it wasn’t even mentioned
Seriously!!! It’s the only performance I can really remember from last year’s ceremony.

THE ONLY ONE THAT COMES CLOSE- BUT NOT QUITE IS THE FINALE OF KINKY BOOTS!
I’m biased but I think Josh Groban is a lovely performer.
I saw Josh Groban live last June he is such a wonderful performer
He truly is. I was lucky enough to see him in Sweeney and he was fantastic! And incredibly humble at the stage door....really nice man!
Ah yes, the bias of having functional ears
THE COLOR PURPLE 2016 performance is THE BEST performance I have ever seen live on the Tony’s.
I get that Hamilton is a good musical but THE COLOR PURPLE was phenomenal!
2016 was absolutely STACKED. Both Hamilton and The Color Purple gave me the biggest goosebumps I've ever had and frankly either getting the crown from that year is fair imo
Yes, yes, yes, so fantastic 😍😍
Now, we're curious about what made it so phenomenal to you?
pfft. Color Purple doesn't come close to the phenomena that is Hamilton.
@@kkpenney444 we're talking about their performances at the Tony's!
Hell, I’d argue that the Waitress and School of Rock performances were both better than the Hamilton performance, but only one swept the Tony’s that year.

Honestly true
I came here for this comment.
The Hadestown performance was mesmerizing.
exactly
Spring Awakening will always have my heart! ❤
Yes. Agree
Top five OBCs of all time

100%
I was literally looking for a comment that said this.
Are y'all seriously not including The Color Purple Revival (2016) and Paradise Square (2022) both amazing performances who received STANDING OVATIONS??? :(
My two favorites! Their vocals are phenomenal!!
Thanks for including The Full Monty! Such an underrated show!
"Full Monty" is such an underrated musical. Thanks for showing it some love.
It's so good.
Great Comet was absolutely robbed in 2017.
No, it was not. It was only nominated to get Josh Groban to perform for a ratings boost. Best Musical should have been “Come From Away”.
@@ChienaAvtzon it depends.

Matilda's revolting children was such an electric performance like kinky boots is good but Matilda should have taken that one

Yea I would have chosen him but I am glad they recognized his performance.
You should hear the man sing Oh Holy Night on Christmas. Tears
Love the zoom in on a little baby Gaten Matarazzo as Gavroche in Les Mis

Not even mentioning The Pippin Revivals performance in 2013 is INSANE!!!
I’m sorry but newsies will always take the cake over Once
Sooo hard to choose 🤩
Our fav one is probably The Color Purple 2016. Have rewatched it probably a hundred times 💜
Spring Awakening is my absolute favorite Broadway musical😊😊
22: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Back up. Toni Colette? Toni Colette was in a musical with Eartha Kitt? Mind blown
Yeah, I was also pleasantly surprised by that.
Im sorry, but Beetlejuice was probably one of the BEST performances from 2019. Their opening number is always great. Should've been the option for 2019.
This.
23: I finally saw Hairspray on Broadway. Didn’t see it when I was a kid but I’m a huge musical lover. Hairspray is one of my favorites
Anything Goes and How to Succeed in Business were fantastic!
"Along Came Bialy" has a very special place in my heart because I got to be in a local production of "The Producers" in 2008. "Six" I love because I'm an uber Tudor history nerd!
This video made me very happy. I saw most of the shows from 2001-2009 on Broadway. Even Avenue Q. Nice memories.
Wow oh my gosh I wish I could see these performances in person
A MUSICAL is one of my favorite musical numbers from SOMETHING ROTTEN!
Fun fact the woman plying Seymour in Six actually went on last minute and she was a standby!!! She’s also Jessie muller’s sister lol
The one shown in the clip is not Abby
And the dance captain too, as I recall
In The Heights is my favorite! Thought that night the energy was as good and rememberable as Rent. I will play that clip on repeat even today. Also loved Spamalot's "Find Your Grail".
Just here to make sure "In The Heights" and "Hamilton" were on the list 👍🏻
And YAY for "SIX" being on here!
SIX!! And the original American cast has always been my favorite!
2016 Tony's was phenomenal. But I would give it to The Color Purple for that outstanding performance from Cynthia Erivo
2:47 A sighting of Roger Bart and Gary Beach is always welcome. 😊
Missing the OBC of Spamalot is my greatest regret.
I really wanted to make the case for “I believe” over “Anything Goes” but I can’t
25: Whoa, huge nostalgia. It’s been a long time when I saw American Idiot with my mom
The Spring Awakening performance is still my favorite
bonus points for Lin-Manuel Miranda making the list twice (for In The Heights and Hamilton, 8 years apart)
oh my GOD finally someone is talking about great comet. finally. jesus us in the fandom are fuming daily over this.
hadestown in 2019, and joaquina kalukango in 2022.
Not having the performance when the Beetlejuice cast did “the whole being dead thing” is a crime
You should have at least mentioned Beetlejuice in 2019
Josh Groban is criminally underrated! He has already been nominated for several Tony Awards but other people won them. I don’t understand? At least he should have WON the Tony for Sweeney Todd!
Spring awakening was amazingly cool whn I saw it in Sf back in 2008!!!!
The tap performance in ‘Anything Goes’ was amazing, I know it’s a cliche but the really don’t make them like that anymore! It takes a different kind of skill and talent and always entertains - nothing like 40 tappers all in sync!

It's ridiculous that Wicked lost the Best Musical.
Can we please get a top 10 or 20 list of the top host performances of the Tony Awards?
The craziest thing about The Wild Party is that there was another show that debuted that same season also called The Wild Party based on the same source material. Both casts were full of insanely talented people.
And yet neither had great music 🎶
Got to go with Anything Goes with Sutton Foster as the best of them all.
24: I was four years old when I saw Wicked in the Pantages. Saw it four times. I just love this musical but I find it ridiculous it lost to Avenue Q
2003 belonged to Brian Stokes Mitchell and his Don Quixote. To this day, I haven't forgotten that one.
I love Wicked but tbh I’m happy that Avenue Q won. It was bold DEFINITELY pulling things that are shocking, and gotta give them that
I love the Tony’s
The newsies performances should’ve won oh my god they were so amazing
What about “Magic to Do” from the year of the Pippin revival? GLARING omission!!!
How many times is Sutton mentioned here? It's crazy
No but I cried when they did the duets thing a few years ago and they did what you own
Falsettos is in my top 5 but that may be because I'm obsessed
On what planet was Sugar Daddy a better performance than I’ve Decided to Marry You in 2014????
Tbf it often lies on ppl's biases
This is the worst list Ms Mojo has ever compiled. They really just picked the most well known show out of every year even when that show did not give the best performance. I’m as big of a fan of Wicked as one can get and even I know that Wicked did not give the best performance that night. Y’all really need to get real with these lists for once in your life.
To be fair, the orchestra was going really fast, faster than normal. Idina could hardly keep up
Part of the reason that the performance for Wicked wasn't top notch is because Idina was actually having an asthma attack while in the flight harness already and her rescue inhaler was either backstage or in her dressing room. The Orchestra was also a bit faster, so that definitely didn't help things along. You can actually hear Idina gasping for breath in the clip that they use to show her singing.
"This performance goes harder than Tracy's hair after using a whole can of hairspray." Iconic line.
I loved seeing Sara Ramirez singing. I remember when she sang on greys anatomy. She has singing and acting chops
MsMojo coming in with the 🔥 choices!
2016 was The Color Purple, "I'm Here".
Theres a video of the lead from Gentlemans Guide wearing a go-pro while performing “decided to marry you” and holy moley, how does he not get dizzy

Cmon now. Were you out of the room for the Paradise Square performance? Let it Burn?
2016’s “The Color Purple” performance is the best performance.
😂 you got me lol 😂
I need a list the second best tony performance for each year. They dserve to be recognized

in 2009, Billy Elliot dominated., taking home TEN awards, including the three young men who won for dancing the part of Billy. Did they not perform at the Tony's? Your choice for 2009 was weak.
Yorktown from Hamilton was amazing!!
I enjoyed the video, but it was a crime to not mention The Light in the Piazza in 2005!!!
I agreed with everything except Next to Normal (Hair was electrifying that year) and Kiss me Kate (Hadestown was aaahhhh). Very good list though!!
Matthew and Nathan are the best Disney duo on the planet not only in the lion king but also in Broadway
DEFYING GRAVITY is a great song from WICKED!!
Pippin. 🎉❤😊
Everyone gets a mention for 2014 Tonys but not Idina Menzel's performance of "Always Starting Over?" It brought the house down and I think Hugh Jackman would agree!
Although he has a Tony now, it is still a shame that all of the other principles in Next to Normal were nominated, and Aaron Tveit was not.
I KNOW!! Aaron Tveit is incredible as Gabe, I absolutely don't understand how he didn't get nominated. He was even in the Tony's opening medley!! They knew how good he was, but like they should have given him a nomination for N2N
Beetlejuice? it was not even mention
How could you say that the Hamilton tonys performance was better than the deaf spring awakening one?!?!
Wicked should’ve beat Avenue Q for best musical!
TOTALLY!!!!!!!
Cynthia erivo with the color purple. The best I have ever seen
