@@Ladywizard That whole thing is hilarious, so now apparently the character wants to murder an innocent girl for being a "fairer leader". Imagine her being sussesful in murdering the girl, then she goes to the mirror asking who is the fairest of them all and then the mirror would then just be saying the next murder target until she's the only one left alive.

“Writers need to stop writing about their own insecurities into these stories that end up being therapy instead of entertainment” Asmon literally nails it one sentence.
So many production studios in Hollywood have forgotten the entire point of entertainment which is to provide the audience with an "experience" which means looking beyond your own feelings and looking at what the audience actually wants. When making a film studios should be asking themselves how do I get the best reaction from the audience as possible with the resources available? What makes people happy? What makes people sad and or angry? What do people consider generally appealing? What are people afraid of? How do I get the audience to love a character? How do I turn a scene into an unforgettable experience? and so much more. Hollywood has become so shallow
@@Nethan2000 yes there is way for them all to have insecurities, wtf kind of question is that? You think most writers DON'T have insecurities? I bet most people in general has them.
The witch hates Snow White because she’s more beautiful than her. Kind of creates a discrepancy when the witch in the remake is better looking than Snow White lol
I thought it was more about the point that the queen was obsessed with beauty and being the fairest, so the point that snow white is not even as beautiful as the queen is fitting to me, its not about her beauty but about the queens madness.
@@phillmoore1561 Its not about inverting just the themes, but inverting morals and values and twisting it from the good hero/heroine's perspective to that of the evil villain. "the witch in the remake is better looking than Snow White" - that is the evil witch's perspective that is being told
Being the leader her father knew she could be ? She survived abuse, went into the forest alone, escaped an assassin, found 7 dudes and made their home hers…she didn’t need to change anything.
as a girl with basically vampire pale, almost translucent skin (i only get a bit of freckles or if i try hard enough i just burn, i have never gotten a tan) and naturally very dark, almost black straight hair, finding people in media who "represent me" is basically impossible exept for exeptions like snow white. i cant find people who look like me even if i try to google in 15 different ways. I cant even make an AI image maker make anything close to what i look like because it just doesnt understand that his combination o black and white exists and when it exists its never portrayed as someting beautiful. BUT... My mom always calls me "my own little snow white" and that always makes me feel beautiful.. Why cant people just write new stuff istead of remaking old, beloved material into something completely different just to suit their agenda. Oh and turns out noone actually cares about representing people who might not be considered the western ideal of beauty. They don't care about underrepresented people. They only care about money and pandering to the people who yell the loudest. When was the last time you saw some main character being remade to a ginger? Doesn't really happen does it? Even though a lot of gingers are bashed constantly their whole lives for looking weird. I bet a lot of us know at least one ginger that was bullied in school growing up and the bullying never really stops. I'm from Sweden so most of my classmates where white but we had black, brown and asian kids too and everyone loved them while the ginger kids were seen as freaks. My dad is a ginger (hence why my skin is so pale and i have some freckles) and he got bullied for being ginger even though he was otherwise very handsome growing up but people still thought he was a freak. I mean seriously, just the fact that so many characters who were originally gingers are now being remade into black or brown characters i think kind of proves my point. It's not about representing a minority it's about following trends, being seen as woke and making money off of dumb, middle age, liberal, white moms who get cozy feelings in their stomach when they watch something that make them feel like they are a good person for watching "an ethnic woman girl-bossing". I won't be watcing any shitty remakes. If they want to make new movies/shows with only characters who are brown, black, latino, asian or whatever and the characters and story are well written then i'd be super excited and I would for sure watch it and I bet a looot of people would rather have original unique characters to experience than to have characters they already know and love being remade into something completely different just because its easier to get eyes on it that way.
About the ginger comment. I have never encountered ginger before as I mainly grew up in SEA, but let me tell you for the fact that seeing a ginger in real life feels like almost seeing a forest elf in your dreams. Something about them feels enchanting to look at that I perceive them to be almost uniquely beautiful. Finding out that a lot of people hate gingers are baffling to me. If anything I just find it rude and feels like they're just trying to express their insecurities. In movies, it's still sad and even frustrating that Hollywood still has the same mindset on anyone that does not follow the western beauty as unattractive. So whenever a ginger, a redhead, or anyone that does not look like your common blonde Starbucks girl, it feels eye catching and stands out from other actors in a good way.
As a woman, the thing that I would wish for instead of all this girl boss nonsense that’s just the other side of toxic, is that they would just make movies that show healthy character dynamics and relationships (both platonic and romantic). Why is that so hard? Why can’t it be waiting for true love and then it’s a loving and respectful relationship for both partners? Why is it always one needs to dominate the other rather than coexisting and supporting each other’s strengths and weaknesses? Small addendum: True love and personal aspirations are not mutually exclusive, ideally they enhance one another. Healthy is however the participants in that relationship feel comfortable with each other and themselves. People like taking on different roles in relationships and that can express itself in a billion different ways. Dominance is not inherently bad (some people want or need it for different reasons and that’s okay), the important thing is that everyone still has equal rights within the relationship and set boundaries are respected.
Somehow a respectful relationship on eye level just isn't enough, or something. I feel like a lot of people can probably relate when I say that for instance protection is something in a relationship that's both great to give and to receive. But at the same time it should be completely acceptable if someone would rather feel more protected than protecting or the other way around. Media fails to see that in order for people to understand your message the first thing you need to do is give them the space they need to feel like their own beliefs aren't just simply disregarded entirely.
I like powerful women in movies, but I don't like how Hollywood does it. Women can aspire for things other than relationships... but there's nothing wrong with normal healthy relationships either. I don't know why Hollywood seems to have trouble with these concepts. Arcane does it well. Vasquez from aliens does it well. Why do I have to see shit like Captain Marvel or Snow White who take what I like and twist it into something everyone hates.
Addams Family (Gomez and Morticia) is still one of the best depictions of a relationship; one based on mutual love and respect. It's my go to show and movie when I want to see a happy couple.
No one seemed to have a problem when they altered the lore for snow white and the huntsman. At the same time though, that made no attempt to claim it was a live action adaptation of the original. You can change the lore all you want, just dont sell it as a remake of the original. I mean, we literally live in a world where "Abe Lincoln vampire hunter" is a real thing.
Oh, I have totally forgotten about Lincoln vampire movie. I actually went to see it in cinema, and had fun with it. It really proves that it is all about the presentation - I never expected that movie to be amazing, but I got in the cinema exactly what I was promised and I was happy with it.
The problem with woke media is that it's not art; it's a form of political activism. They're not writing stories, they're writing elaborate metaphorical political values they're instructing others to adopt. It's because the people that were on reddit and tumblr are now in the work force. They're generally "creatives" that have been sheltered from real life events to the point they can no longer identify with the average person and hates them (which is why you see a constant attempt of becoming the victim). Due to that disconnect the writers become a lot more narcissistic as they care less about the average person and turn their thoughts to themselves (which is why it's plagued with mary sue characters; as the political meta-narrative is more important than the actual narrative and they see themselves as political heroes in their heads). They've tried these things before though, and the stories don't do well at all. So why do they keep getting hired if the story sucks? Because to get the money to do this sort of thing you need to have the right connections and that means social networking. If it's big movies like this, that means social networking in American celebrity culture; where virtue signalling is strong. So they end up getting picked by skill scouts because of how they liked the person over the quality of their work (a tale as old as time) and they were ticking the right boxes for what's ok for what they think their target audience is. This is also why we're in an age of refurbishing old stories diluting them with today's pop culture and reimagining them as something else. The stories suck, and they know this; but if they put a well known name with a pre-established fanbase then they don't have to build a fanbase from nothing. Some fanbases are also desperate for new material that it makes sense; throw money into the development and the quality will look good so that should work, right? Then we get to the other problem the writers have; the WHY they're making a movie. The best writers are story tellers who are making an enjoyable story. These writers aren't story tellers, the story isn't important to them. What's important to them is the pat on the back for being politically correct and showing their intelligence. They don't care what the story says; they care what others think about them as individuals and the movie is simply a way of explaining how they're great people for the things they hate. So we have a system that encourages insularity, rewards narcissism and wrongly predicts audience size based on intensity of talking points that the writers themselves care about. They're narcissists though, it's all about them rather than about the pop culture virtue signal they're attempting. Which is why there's also so many token characters now, although they've attempted to reframe this as divesity hiring when it's really just "Yeah, have one of them be there, that will send a strong political message that i'm right and not whatever-ist". The part I have a problem with is when they're taking other peoples cultures and attempting to "re-imagine history and cultures" (re-write) when they've no interest in what it was. They don't like the things that they're doing, so they change them into something they do like; something about themselves. I have as much problem with Snow White as I do with the Netflix Cleopatra "documentry". It's cultural appropriation of a European myth. The characters name is in reference to her skin (not race, this myth was before race was a widely known or used concept) because it was as white as snow. Their purpose isn't to bring life into an old myth; it's to destory the parts it doesn't like and replace it with something they like. It's a bastardisation of the original and it's done deliberately because they can't make something good so they need to destroy and shit on someone else. These aren't story writers; they're critics. You ever tried a very loudmouthed food critics own cooking? They always overindulge in one partiicular ingredient because they themselves like it. With this Snow White adaptation, the problem they seem to have had is that the lead was white. As Tolkein said: "Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made." We're in a strange point where political activists dressed as writers are removing parts of our collective modern mythology that they don't like. So far those parts have been men, white people (very popular to do with redhead characters, might have to do with the paleness), maturity, stoicism, competent foes and hope. They promote behaviours that were originally found in villians; violence, emotional immaturity, revenge seeking, racist (reverse-racism if you're the type to believe racism is something that should be socially acceptable by how you've chosen to segregate the races based on inherent value...), sexist, cruel, smug, condescending, lacking empathy or showing only emulated empathy and a lack of self-accountability. It's failing because the quality is shite. It's shite because it's as shallow as the person writing it. The big wigs who make the actual money from these things don't care about this shit because that's just business to them. Sell product get cash, whether product is sexist or racist etc doesn't matter so long as people are buying product. What they're attempting to do is turn movies into a similar proposition as tipping culture is in the US; cultural norm to do it from guilt of being outed as racist because they wanted to save/make money. You didn't tip? Our servers survive on your tips. You didn't like Balck Panther? You must be racist.
Your point on Idris Elba playing Heimdall. You hit it on the head. He was good because he was good, he wasn't good because he was black. Just as we don't give shit to Morgan Freeman for playing a tiny ginger Irish guy in Shawshank Redemption; because the quality speaks for itself. What you're seeing there is the difference between what's good for the story and what's tokenism. Problem with the dwarves is that they're not actually dwarves. As in they are a race of dwarves from European mythology; they're not people with dwarfism. Just as the Orcs in WoW aren't black people...
TLDR: It's never been about making good movies for them, it's only about affirmation of their own ideologies and opinions, talking down to anyone who they think is beneath them, and "staying on the right side of history." They're in a massive, politically correct, narcissistic circle jerk, and they've infested Hollywood and Western pop culture like a cancer.
I would also want to add, that since the extension of copyright is the creators life plus 70 years that means that things like star wars or any properties they mistreat can’t even be challenged with the public domain fanworks so if you want star wars media (good or otherwise) but don’t want to give money to disney then it’s quite hard to do, so this stuff can remain unchallenged for as long as we live.
I care less about snow white and more about how they made the 7 dwarves the "7 people." I think the dwarven race in most fantasy is badass, but in snow white in particular they are most of the charm. It's like getting rid of Timon and pumba from the lion king. Idk if a lot of actual little people truly find it offensive, but I personally think it's a disservice to movie/fantasy lovers to demonize those roles. Why don't we just call it snow white and 7 liberals at this point, I mean really you don't need to alter every freaking story to fit a narrative.
It’s cuz of the guy from GoT. He apparently pitched a fit that it would be offensive to cast dwarves in a Snow White revival, and is big on pushing the narrative that little ppl should only be cast in roles that don’t have anything to do with their size. Which is hugely ironic considering his fame is from playing a character who’s whole storyline is based on being a midget. Brad Williams talked about it on a podcast, and basically said the majority of the little ppl community hates that guy and they’d of been thrilled to get a role in Snow White.
@@mrs.h2725 oh yeah, I've heard of that, and ironically peter dinklage plays Tyrion Lannister and don't forget is role in elf. Also, even though peter is a deutsch Tyrion is one of my favorite characters from Got. So once again people like dwarf roles, and there's nothing to be ashamed about for those actors.
Why is the term “dwarf” even considered offensive again? All of a sudden we, as a society collectively decided that the term dwarf is offensive so we’re all going to start saying “little people” instead and honestly I just don’t get why? Also, I hate the term “little people” it sounds condescending and it always felt like something some old Irish guy came up with as he told stories about “the fae” or “the wee folk”.

One thing about Nick Fury, they actually race-swapped the character in the comics first. When Marvel created a new universe called "Ultimate Marvel," the artist (I believe it was Bryan Hitch) based his version of Nick Fury specifically on Samuel L. Jackson. They probably would not have cast a black actor to play that part otherwise. The Marvel race swaps only started in the "Phase Four" Marvel Universe, when no one cared any more.

Isn't the dwarf in snow white literally a dwarf? They are in a fantasy land with magic and dragons. The dwarf is a race and not actually humans with bad genes.
@tukos7370 that is cuz the word dwarf is used as a degatory term to refer to little ppl. The movie is about a race that doesn't exist in real life and is used in fiction books. It is not the same thing.
Ive always hated race swaps. Also the other way around. Like really, a story about the ancient Egyptians and you cannot cast a single actor from that region. It irks me. Do companies like Disney not do surveys of changes like this on test audiences anymore? I feel like the moment they say "no more dwarves in Snow White," 90% of people familiar with Disney movies are going to say "What? No dwarves?" Is there actually a movement to remove dwarfs, gnomes, halflings from fantasy stuff? Where is this coming from?
They probably do, but in those surveys most of the people are leftists. And about dwarfs, it all started because Peter Dinklage made a statement that "in our current society dwarfs still being casted to play the roles of small characters and it's not progressive enough", so he basically screwed over six people who were gonna get a shot in a big movie, while he himself made a bank on playing that dwarf from GoT who's whole story relies on that he is a dwarf. But hey, maybe he saved those six people from starring in a complete disaster of a movie.
the root issue is actually much wider, these CEOs are just doing what the shareholders want. Who are the majority shareholders in every single media company? 2 large investment firms BlackRock and Vanguard and these are controlled by the government through something called ESG investing. ESG is something invented by UN which is a government regulation basically to "score" the companies based on their idea of value. So basically what is happening is that government through investment companies like Blackrock and Vanguard is in charge of corporations and they are pushing leftism and wokeness on the corporations. They don't actually survey their customers, rather do what the suits in the UN tell them to do. You can wrap it all up in one word - socialism.
Nope. Its actually puzzling how modern companies like Disney began listening to former tumblr loonies (now Twitter denizens) when Twitter accounts for less than 2% of public opinion. Its why ESG investments and all the theories behind them hold weight. Companies, even modern ones, have been known to employ slave labor so BS about companies gaining morals and ethics is thrown in the garbage. Its clear they were getting funded by a source to change or enslave society in a way they see fit and now people are not just getting jaded, they've actively turning hostile against initiatives like this. Otherwise, this DEI wokeshit would have gone out the door, its unbelievable that companies would continue to seek shit that damages their profits like this for just "social change". They were getting paid and now that they're losing money in this initiatives, the tide turns. But whenever the tide turns its always stopped. I literally have zero hope that things will ever go back to the way they used to be, and yet its the only thing I can actually hope for.
I never thought of woke media having insecurities but your right, they change things that are so unnecessary which basically proves the insecurities these people have behind set or even on screen, comparing this generation to the past
im not really one for judging by appearances, but i do have to say that when i imagine someone who's "woke" i dont often imagine someone considered traditionally attractive. I usually think of someone who maybe has dyed hair, might be overweight, have tattoos, facial piercings etc. Ofc not all of them look like that, but the loudest shoutiest voices tend to be in that crowd. So there might be something of an insecurity or jealousy towards the media theyre adapting. Heck even just typing "woke girl" in google images doesnt paint a pretty picture.
I'll just say this a generation ago (I'm a bit older than most of Asmon's fans) having characters of another race or non males in leading roles was something that didn't happen much for social reasons. So for young people to say it's about "insecurities" as opposed to a changing society is dumb to me.

See... not every story needs to be about a girl boss. Or a powerful man. Stories can be about girlish girls who hope they'll meet a charming prince. They can be about a down-on-his-luck office worker who is tired of life. Not everything is winning or leading or succeeding. And if you say "but we don't want to tell the classic Snow White story all over again" then there's your answer. DON'T.
I think the biggest mistake people make is the idea that a woman can't be strong and loving at the same time. The other mistake is where they think being a strong woman means you should not depend on another, least of all a man. For me strong means you're also in touch with your emotions, your heart and that you are not afraid to ask for help or depend on someone else.. We usually point to men as being strong and not in touch with their emotions, but behind every men is also a woman he depends on.. For who he will go beyond what he is capable of, And to who he will open up his biggest insecurities and vulnerabilties.. So why can't we write characters that are strong in their convictions and their fight to make 'good' win, but also write them strong in how they show it's a good thing to love one another, and to depend on eachother as they fight the evil that attacks life and love.. Imo, Without love, dependance and fighting together for eachother, we might aswell stop living in a society.. Regardless if you're a man or woman.. strong or weak.. We need eachother, and the differences between people make that a beautiful thing.
I don't remember much about Howl's Moving Castle but that's about the kind of femininely-strong protagonist I'd rather watch infinitely more times Hell, I'd rather read a sub-par woman-aimed fantasy webtoon that uses the same store-bought fantasy assets if it had a protagonist who isn't a constant pushover

The box office now is nothing but Marvel, Dc, Adaptation or Remake. That’s it. Oh no wait, we got The Creator, the first original Sci fi in almost a decade and it bombed smh.
The original Equalizer TV show was cast with a white dude back in the 70's or something. No one had any problem when Denzel Washington being cast for the movie remakes.
I think the biggest problem with "woke media" isn't necessarily that they'r overcompensating, but rather that they try to put down these classic stories as being bad. Like, if they wanna make a badass main character, they can just write a whole new story that includes a strong character. They don't need to change old stories just because they view them as lesser than. (And about that snowhite costume, I think the outfit looks ok but damn the hair looks so bad, It's so shiny you'd think It's made of plastic)
I always saw them remaking old stories as just being lazy/cost efficient. Not only can you ride the success of a previous masterpiece for publicity, but you can also save millions of dollars and months/years of creative writing. It's also happening a lot more recently in the video game space, where previously beloved games are getting unneeded remasters or even sequels with the exact same name as previous entries in the series, MW3 for example.
They need to remake old stories, just look at what happened with the Velma series. People have 0 interest in watching their garbage, so re-making something will bring a larger audience. They can't write something themselves because they are incredibly bad at their jobs.
@@samgraffen9212 Oh, It's 100% laziness and trying to make a cash grab off of old material. The difference between games and movies however is that, for games, they try to come up with the excuse that they'r "keeping the memory of the original alive" or what not, but for these movie remakes, it feels like they'r basically calling the original a "mistake" and that their new version is "fixing it". Which, who the heck told them it needed fixing to begin with?
Can it really “fall” tho? They can mess up in like 4 movies like this one and basically break even and then make something like encanto and make all the profit they need… also Disney + brings so much money
@@AhriFae Yes, Disney been bleeding money for awhile. Sure Disney not gonna suddenly fold, but if they gonna continue doing this sooner or later they might have to sell some intellectual properties in their disposal to keep the money flowing.
I think what people hate the most is that a lot of the "new"(*your decision to change that to woke*) entertainment is the fact that it sucks, its badly written it comes far too hard in what it wants to preach and it irrevocably modifies the old for something worst, if it was for something better then no one would care about the politics on it but because it sucks people hate it. Like the idea of making alterative story of Snow White being able to become an "independent strong waaamen" isn't bad as a concept... but you need a very good writer and focus to pull it off, and take into account the story related to it, imagine if instead of talking about the whole story of: escaping to the dwarves->poisoned->prince kills evil queen->happy ever after. you were to focus on the time snow white was living with the dwarves and put it as if was doom/plants vs zombies, each night monsters from the queen will come to the home and the dwarves with snow white would have to defend themselves until hey kill a lieutenant of the evil queen? it sounds cool in my opinion :p I watched Maleficend... the first one I gave it a 7/10 the second one a 5.5-6/10. Edit1: why the f* hasn't anyone implemented the good tropes to the "independent strong waaamen" idea to make a good character? I think everyone here knows the classic trope of the hero becoming arrogant and ends up being saved by their friend and allowing them to progress... why does the "independent strong waaamen" have to never make mistakes and the world itself bend so she never does something wrong or being punished?
The problem is not even them self inserting, projecting and making "power fantasy" movies... The problem is the hi-jacking nature of it, why not make their own stories? their own scripts, their own original movies??? why must they take stories that people like and change it in order to fit their views, then they force US to watch it, and we can't have our own opinion, if it's sucks, it SUCKS, but they want us to praise it and if we don't, it's because we are biased and prejudiced??? If the movies were actually good, majority would say it is good BESIDES the bs views, but they throw a horrible movie at us, and if we don't like it, it's never because of their own incompetency, it's always because of white supremacy and evil patriarchy, no wonder every single movie sucks, because they don't care about doing something good, everyone around them is always praising them because of what they "are" instead of what they "do".
it just hit me, they could've made a joan of arc story. she WAS a strong female with leadership and probably one of the very few from the tiny pool of irl historic badass woman.

The whole point about the dwarves sucks for everyone. Hollywood doesn't want to cast small people anymore as dwarves because they think it is insulting to them. Meanwhile these dwarf actors have a really hard time landing jobs and roles due to their size and looks and it's mostly these roles that landed them work, fame and money. Most of them already stated that they really don't care and love doing these jobs. Now these people are having a much harder time to land these roles since they're basically cancelled and if Hollywood needs a dwarf they just cast a normal-sized human and throw CGI on it (for example: Hugh Grant as Oompa Loompa in the new Wonka movie). It's another one of those cases where people/companies don't realise that goals do not equal actual results. Hollywood is so behind the thought that they're helping these people by cancelling their roles that they don't realise they're only making problems worse for these actors.
Saying Snow White should be white is not racist. Imagine a white Black Panther… it is the reason for the character’s name. Of all Disney properties Snow White is kinda obvious…
I'm looking forward to the new Bentkey version of Snow White because the trailer for that was so immersively enchanting and beautiful that I literally thought I was in the realm of magic and fairytales.
The reason for the remakes is due to the copyrights for the Disney animated stories is expiring. Whether or not the remake is a success it gives them substantial grounds to go after anyone using the originals.
That doesn't work. The reason for the remakes is because Beauty & the Beast and The Lion King each made a billion dollars. And for all the whining about "woke" in these comments, Barbie also made a billion dollars.
@@michaelc657The successful live action remakes weren't woke. And while I haven't seen Barbie, the girls I know who have seen it (like 4 from my work lol) liked it because of how feminine it was, which I would say is the antithesis to the woke, androgynous females they have been pushing lately.

I remember looking into this girl a while ago cus I'm Colombian and I wanted to know where she popped out from, since over here, whenever an artist makes it outside, we generally know who it was, like Shakira or Sofia Vergara, but I had no idea who this girl was... Turns out that she's a second generation Colombo-american that's half-polish, born and raised in New Jersey, which, if you know your average Colombian heritage, would make her something like 80% white, and as Asmon once said about the people he grew up with, she's just American. She could be selling herself as a Polish woman too, but... being Latina (which she really isn't imo, but that's another topic) probably opens more doors over in Lxs Angeles (that's a joke btw, on the putting Xs over gendered things lol)
imo a really good successful remake was the Maleficent movies. I thought they were both really good. (and the battles and CGI was badass) They still stuck true to the 3 fairies changing the color of Aurora's dress, they stuck true to Aurora falling in love, and I LOVED their twist on Maleficent's kiss waking up Aurora, cuz parental love is also true love and I really liked the twist on that concept of the curse and overall making Maleficent not essentially a totally bad villain, but gave her a more realistic agenda (hell hath no fury like a woman scorned) and Maleficent learning from her mistakes was an overall really well done perspective of a remake. 😌👍 But once you start removing beloved characters and changing a lot of the look of a character, it's a no for me dawg.
That thing with the casting for the dwarves was cold as hell. Peter Dinklage might find playing fantasy dwarves dimeaning but I'm sure there are less rich/famous actors with his condition out there that would've been interested in putting a Disney movie on their resume. Instead they basically got blacklisted from the roles. Big oof
It's not even racism... Thier was an older live Snow White and that actress was Latina as well. The major difference is that actress had professionalism and class.
Lol I don’t think Disney is promising something and delivering something else. They are being very clear about what this new version is about. So hear me out guys, if that’s not something you think you would enjoy, just don’t go watch it. That’s what I’m doing anyway. Couldn’t care less about Snow White, classic or not. And I guess people who are complaining like they are being betrayed or something couldn’t care less about it either. People just want to get mad and argue lol.
apparently there was this feminist film nerd on tiktok (which I'm not even gonna say her name) who has a lot of platform, made this claim that people criticising Rachel is "misogynistic" and are trying to justify why the"patriarchy" exists and so on. I could not for the love of god even believe what I was hearing. some people I've seen defending Rachel don't even understand this whole discourse
I've been saying this for years. Many writers use diversity and inclusion in TV/film for the sake of it, rather than trying to tell a good story around it. Almost no one wants to write geniunely good stories anymore. It's literally supposed to be entertainment, not therapy.
I don't think I've ever seen the Snow White movie by Disney.🤔 But considering it's Disney, it was no doubt already made more gentle than the German version. Or did Snow White's step mother (which was her birth mother in the first edition of 1812) have to dance in red-hot iron shoes until death at Snow Whites wedding?😇 I can understand being irritated by the color of Snow White's skin, since that is where her name came from: "One winter day, a queen sits at the window, which has a black frame made of ebony, and sews. She accidentally pricks her finger with the sewing needle. When she sees three drops of blood falling into the snow, she thinks, "If I had a child as white as snow, as red as blood, and as black as the wood on the frame!" Her wish comes true and she has a daughter who is called Snow White because she has fair skin, red cheeks and black hair."
I used to work at McDonald’s and the reason their drinks taste better is because they actually follow the carbonation instructions and percentages that come from the soda companies themselves, most other places don’t carbonate the drink correctly or add too much syrup
I never really vibed with Snow White to be honest. I was more upset about the movies I actually liked being lowkey ruined with live action remakes. My favorite version of Snow White is the short story Snow, Glass, and Apples by Neil Gaiman
I grew up with the classic Disney movies, and just hearing Rachel say that Snow White is gonna be that different from the original is breaking my heart. 😢 This is not a live action remake, and that means making the movie again but with real actors, this is a reboot. 😡 They’re gonna take the title, and make a different movie. 😡

The first movie ever made was actually just a recording of a train pulling into the station. Audience members freaked out bc they thought a train was about to come out of the screen and hit them bc they had never seen “moving pictures” before.
The thing with the "snow white, snow black" comments is that, while they're crude, they're not racist in this case, they're being honest. The people upset about her skin tone normally would not have a point outside of "you changed the character, wah" but in snow white, they literally describe her appearance very specifically. The original Germanic fairy tail takes time to give extremely specific details about what she looks like, you know the whole "hair as black as ebony, lips as red as (can't remember), and skin as white as snow." yea real lines from the story. So by changing this detail, they're directly contradicting the original story's canon as well as disrespecting the culture the story comes from. It's a Germanic Fairy Tail, this would be like taking an African Folk story, where the hero is a brave African warrior who's appearance is well-described, and having said hero played by a Russian man who thinks the original story "needs to be updated for modern audiences". It's insulting.
Correction: The examples of LotR and Berserk are high fantasy, but they are high fantasy with human struggles and relatability. There is a nuance there.
The thing about Heimdal is that he is known as the White Aesir The god and his possessions are described in enigmatic manners. For example, Heimdall is emerald-toothed, "the head is called his sword," and he is "the whitest of the gods." However Idris killed it and it is the MCU. They can change the color of these characters all they want, but it's no longer the original character
I have no problem with them race-swapping a character AS LONG AS the change makes sense in the world and it doesn't impinge upon critical elements of that character. I think in every situation where a race-swapped character has NOT worked, it has been because the fundamental element of what makes that character who they are has been destroyed, either by changes to the story or changes to the perception of how a story might go. I constantly bring up Broadway when talking to people about this issue; anyone can play anyone on Broadway or in a play. But try putting someone white in the role of Porgy in Porgy and Bess and you are going to have a problem. But anyone can play Harold Hill from the Music Man because ostensibly, anyone could be a swindling know-it-all salesman coming into town. I think the original character can stay intact as long as the OTHER aspects of the character aren't destroyed and the actor/actress knocks it out the park. Disney and others keep getting it wrong because they take the character, race-swap it, and then destroy the other things that make that character recognizable.
@@grinko1222 If the change "makes sense in the world and it doesn't impinge upon critical elements of that character" as I said in my previous comment. They reuse old characters and stories because these cover artist writers/directors cant create a new character for minorities that will sell big. It also helps them fill seats and sell tickets easier by using the old success. Then the old fanbase that made it famous show up expecting the old story but they completely rewrite the story nowadays. Sometimes it even becomes a different story with a different meaning or main characters. And when people don't like it, the studios point the blame at the public instead of accepting that they got caught trying to steal someone else's work
The Little Mermaid was an achievement for casting someone in the lead role who displays multiple physical features of someone suffering from fetal alcohol syndrome, which I think we can all agree is underrepresented.
Basically not everyone is in the mood for an afterschool special (teaching moment) from their entertainment. They want to escape, not be reminded of how bad the world really sucks.
I think the reason Heimdall didn't bother us is a combination of 1: Heimdall was a relatively obscure character and 2: This was a long time ago. 10 years ago, the raceswapping of characters wasn't nearly as prolific. It was not something being shoved down our throats with every new movie. So it didn't strike us. Now we've seen it so much... So many times... We are MUCH more atuned to when it happens. Also when it comes to Nick Fury, he looks comic-accurate. Ultimate Universe Nick Fury was explicitly designed after Samuel L Jackson.
Art IS the most natural form of therapy and writing a story, painting a picture etc has 100% to do with some part of the artist's life and story. The problem is that this is not art, its straight up projection
I agree its 100% projection from these racists. Its no wonder they fail to appease the audience and consumers time and time again when their productions are always written to spite normal people and the soceity that past generations built for us.
13:04 - 14:29 This is a great take. Great artists use lies to tell the truth, because they are trying to shine light on a particular phenomena that is true in the world. In order to really get the point across they use "lies" to illustrate or exaggerate the quality of the phenomena. The real world is very difficult to understand and it is helpful to simplify some things in order to understand them better.
I'd change the word "replace" for the case of Heimdall and Nick Fury to "played" because those characters were not "replaced" they were played by those actors and those actors did a good job playing the characters these woke adaptations seek to "replace" classic, traditional, and cultural stories with a echoing message that "Replaces" the fairy tale.
It‘s not about anything personal for those guys, it‘s just about getting control! And most of the control you will get by putting the woman in charge of the household and of all the major decisions and then scaring the f out of her via the media. Voilà, you got yourself the perfect robot that eats whatever you say hates whatever you say and generally consumes whatever you deem appropriate. This is the whole and single reason for what is going on right now.
It's true, all of this garbage is about control. Forcing people to behave against their own interests. The worst part is that they're literally saying it on camera and people still aren't catching on.
What gets me the most out of this whole Snow White thing is the dwarf situation. Weren't the dwarves supposed to be like gnome/goblin/faerie type beings? They're not meant to be real-life dwarves, as in humans with dwarfism, but the fantasy creature based on the mythological being (Norse if I'm not mistaken), just like in Lord of the Rings, right? So why are these dwarves improper but the ones in LotR OK? They're just trying to stir up shit.

There's no way so many writers are insecure. Most are simply following the ideology they're told to follow.
Hollywood has become so shallow

as a girl with basically vampire pale, almost translucent skin (i only get a bit of freckles or if i try hard enough i just burn, i have never gotten a tan) and naturally very dark, almost black straight hair, finding people in media who "represent me" is basically impossible exept for exeptions like snow white. i cant find people who look like me even if i try to google in 15 different ways.
Just google Eva Green.

Watch the movie Powder 😅😅
i look the same too
As a woman, the thing that I would wish for instead of all this girl boss nonsense that’s just the other side of toxic, is that they would just make movies that show healthy character dynamics and relationships (both platonic and romantic). Why is that so hard? Why can’t it be waiting for true love and then it’s a loving and respectful relationship for both partners? Why is it always one needs to dominate the other rather than coexisting and supporting each other’s strengths and weaknesses?
Small addendum:
True love and personal aspirations are not mutually exclusive, ideally they enhance one another.
Media fails to see that in order for people to understand your message the first thing you need to do is give them the space they need to feel like their own beliefs aren't just simply disregarded entirely.
the point is to make peasants fight each other instead of fighting the nobles
@@candykit5382 If Alien or Aliens was made today. People would call it „woke“.

And both are awesome movies 🍿
As Tolkein said: "Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made."
We're in a strange point where political activists dressed as writers are removing parts of our collective modern mythology that they don't like.
TLDR:
It's never been about making good movies for them, it's only about affirmation of their own ideologies and opinions, talking down to anyone who they think is beneath them, and "staying on the right side of history." They're in a massive, politically correct, narcissistic circle jerk, and they've infested Hollywood and Western pop culture like a cancer.

One thing about Nick Fury, they actually race-swapped the character in the comics first. When Marvel created a new universe called "Ultimate Marvel," the artist (I believe it was Bryan Hitch) based his version of Nick Fury specifically on Samuel L. Jackson. They probably would not have cast a black actor to play that part otherwise. The Marvel race swaps only started in the "Phase Four" Marvel Universe, when no one cared any more.
Jackson didn't take pay for them to use his likeness. He asked to play the character if they ever made the movie.

Do companies like Disney not do surveys of changes like this on test audiences anymore? I feel like the moment they say "no more dwarves in Snow White," 90% of people familiar with Disney movies are going to say "What? No dwarves?"
Is there actually a movement to remove dwarfs, gnomes, halflings from fantasy stuff? Where is this coming from?
ESG. BlackRock. Vanguard. WEF. Investors and organizations like that are Disney's customers now, not us.
I literally have zero hope that things will ever go back to the way they used to be, and yet its the only thing I can actually hope for.
its after the movie is made.

It's called ESG but our boy just can't accept it. Maybe it has something to do with night media 🤔
im not really one for judging by appearances, but i do have to say that when i imagine someone who's "woke" i dont often imagine someone considered traditionally attractive.
For who he will go beyond what he is capable of,
And to who he will open up his biggest insecurities and vulnerabilties..
So why can't we write characters that are strong in their convictions and their fight to make 'good' win,
but also write them strong in how they show it's a good thing to love one another, and to depend on eachother as they fight the evil that attacks life and love..
Imo, Without love, dependance and fighting together for eachother, we might aswell stop living in a society..
Regardless if you're a man or woman.. strong or weak..
We need eachother, and the differences between people make that a beautiful thing.

Like the idea of making alterative story of Snow White being able to become an "independent strong waaamen" isn't bad as a concept... but you need a very good writer and focus to pull it off, and take into account the story related to it, imagine if instead of talking about the whole story of: escaping to the dwarves->poisoned->prince kills evil queen->happy ever after. you were to focus on the time snow white was living with the dwarves and put it as if was doom/plants vs zombies, each night monsters from the queen will come to the home and the dwarves with snow white would have to defend themselves until hey kill a lieutenant of the evil queen? it sounds cool in my opinion :p
I watched Maleficend... the first one I gave it a 7/10 the second one a 5.5-6/10.

Snow White and 7 Dwarves ❌️
Snow White and 7 Halflings ✅️
It’s like parents realizing they gave a car to a toddler
Is that how copyright law works? Can you explain further?
@@michaelc657The successful live action remakes weren't woke. And while I haven't seen Barbie, the girls I know who have seen it (like 4 from my work lol) liked it because of how feminine it was, which I would say is the antithesis to the woke, androgynous females they have been pushing lately.
@@Knight3434I don’t know exactly the (movie) copyright , but think of Spider man , Sony has the license, and is why they kept making new ones because if they didn’t they’d lose the rights to Spider-Man , (I don’t know enough as to why - just if they didn’t they’d lose it)
@@Knight3434or 20th century fox with Fantastic four , and why that last one had a terrible scrip, they had to make it or they’d lose the rights to it .
It is cancelled. They will lose more bothering to release it than just to dumpster it. Marvel just had several huge losses I doubt very much they don't see the "writing on the wall."
This is one of the realest and most relatable videos I have seen. Thank you, and well said on every single point you had!
Society is healing from the past 10 years of brainwashing

As a certified racist, I must disagree. Shadows are dark and therefore I avoid them.
People can live how they want, but don't inject how you think everyone should live into remakes of PAST art. It really is that simple.
I'm black but also german and I hate the fact that she shits so much on my culture. This is not about racism it's about entitlement
Or did Snow White's step mother (which was her birth mother in the first edition of 1812) have to dance in red-hot iron shoes until death at Snow Whites wedding?😇
I can understand being irritated by the color of Snow White's skin, since that is where her name came from:
"One winter day, a queen sits at the window, which has a black frame made of ebony, and sews.
This is not a live action remake, and that means making the movie again but with real actors, this is a reboot. 😡
They’re gonna take the title, and make a different movie. 😡
How does a remake ruin the original movie? Dumb take and you are wrong. Just dont watch the remake, lmfao...

The first movie ever made was actually just a recording of a train pulling into the station. Audience members freaked out bc they thought a train was about to come out of the screen and hit them bc they had never seen “moving pictures” before.
The first comedy as well 🤣
The thing with the "snow white, snow black" comments is that, while they're crude, they're not racist in this case, they're being honest.
The thing about Heimdal is that he is known as the White Aesir
The god and his possessions are described in enigmatic manners. For example, Heimdall is emerald-toothed, "the head is called his sword," and he is "the whitest of the gods."
However Idris killed it and it is the MCU.
Swapping Hemdall worked because he is a very minor character, both in the actual Norse mythology and in the Marvel comic universe.
@@KharaChmielSo a white guy can play blade then?
@@grinko1222 If the change "makes sense in the world and it doesn't impinge upon critical elements of that character" as I said in my previous comment. I bet you read the first 9 words of my comment then wrote your reply without reading the rest.
@@KharaChmiel I asked because people tend to have double standards about whitewashing. Blade is black but that has nothing to do with his character.

It's always kinda been propaganda like that... they just used to be good at it
I think the reason Heimdall didn't bother us is a combination of 1: Heimdall was a relatively obscure character and 2: This was a long time ago.
Its no wonder they fail to appease the audience and consumers time and time again when their productions are always written to spite normal people and the soceity that past generations built for us.
its mental illness
13:04 - 14:29 This is a great take. Great artists use lies to tell the truth, because they are trying to shine light on a particular phenomena that is true in the world. In order to really get the point across they use "lies" to illustrate or exaggerate the quality of the phenomena. The real world is very difficult to understand and it is helpful to simplify some things in order to understand them better.
I'd change the word "replace" for the case of Heimdall and Nick Fury to "played" because those characters were not "replaced" they were played by those actors and those actors did a good job playing the characters
these woke adaptations seek to "replace" classic, traditional, and cultural stories with a echoing message that "Replaces" the fairy tale.
