Perkins, Torgo, the Scientist who keeps sayind, down, down, down. A lot of the host segments would have been very different without Mike. Goofy Japanese Sci-fi just seemed to be the perfect genre for MST3K to rake over the coals. This has to probably the best episode. From start to finish, the riffing didn't lose steam.
I discovered recently that Jo Shishido, the actor who played Captain Joe, actually undergo plastic surgery to enlarge his cheekbones. From what I understand, that helped him in getting roles in 70s movies actually, he was playing mostly tough guys RIP Shishido-san

My favorite kinds of jokes in MST3K: Joel messing around in front of the screen, Servo pretending to kiss characters in the movie, references to Monty Python’s, references to Frank Zappa, and of course, when a line in the movie is just so ridiculous that Servo bursts out laughing. “What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue?” “SHUT UP! ...Sorry.”
In the Incredible Hulk movie (the one with Norton), Hulk throws a forklift at Blonsky. It's hard to watch that scene without singing "He tried to kill me with a forklift", lol.
I love the fact that these are from a vhs. It reminds of how we used to tape things from the library. I also used to leave a tape on record for Adult Swim so I could watch late night shows without having to stay up late.
I still have a large box of VHS tapes of the show. I taped the show religiously from season one to the end. Time moves on and technology does too. Years ago I started converting my VHS to DVD, I got through the first season and they started releasing the show on DVD and I stopped converting mine. Thanks to a dedicated fanbase the tapes kept circulating on the internet.

When the soldier yelled, "He killed one of his own men!" I really expected the riff, "He killed one of his own Ken!"
A lot of people think that Tammy is the morale officer but if you pay attention during Joel and the bots's snorts you'll hear the Captain saying "Negative, she knows more about *unintelligable* than the two of us put together." I'm kinda wondering what it is she knows about though.
Me, too - I backed it up & listened again, & still can't get anything out of it.
ETA: I found the movie unriffed & turned on closed captioning - it says "Knows more about computers."

That’s interesting about living in another country. I have lived abroad, but I had a soft spot for these movies even before that.
This episode made me nostalgic about Jack Perkins. That's some kind of accomplishment, I guess.
