This was edited down from a 26-part serial loosely based on 'Planet of the Apes.' The original title was Saru no Gundan (Army of the Apes). (To be fair, 90% of anything is crap -- and that's in anybody's country.) The market for this stuff outside of Japan is smaller and it has a hard time competing against the Hollywood product which has greater (eye candy) appeal. They just don't have the budget for the kind of effects, make-up, and level of production standards they do in the States. When their media succeeds outside of Japan, it's because it has POV's that are fresh, good scripts, and ideas that are executed well and not just because it's Japanese.
"Johnny was bad, even as a child everybody could tell --- And everyone said if you don't get straight you'll surely go to hell --- But Johnny didn't care....." Thank you, Oingo Boingo, for warning us about him all those years ago.

"ohh this movie is even stupider then I thought" no kidding. It went from a knock off planet of the apes to a lazy 2001-ish style ending. "we all fell asleep and had this same dream where we could feel pain and hunger and apparently went 1000 years into the future and came back with a necklace in 7 days." man, theres a stretch, theres reaching for it, and then theres grasping at straws like an opposing lawyer in an open and shut case. That 3rd act is so bad its like multiple fanfictions trying to connect from multiple different original material.
Fear Monarch This is actually a compilation movie made out a TV series. Admittedly, a very bad one. But part of the reason for this being such a disjointed movie is that Sandy Frank condensed the footage in such a way that entire story arcs simply breeze by before you can make any sense of them. Adding to the picture's problems is that MST3K actually cut the movie down, so it's missing key scenes and makes even less sense than it would otherwise. The full length version of the film isn't really that much better, though.
1:11:15 The sudden revelation that the monkey child that was following them around the entire movie was actually a girl was a bigger twist than the end of the orignal Metroid game. I totally thought it was a little boy monkey the entire time lmao
This is one of my favorite MST3ks. The rawhide chew and tick bath line .... Oh god. I laughed the rest of the evening. I'm curious to know whether there were any episodes where Catherine and Godo were reunited. The sexual tension was off the charts.
This has become one of my favorite MST3K movies. The classic line “I don’t care!”… followed by the after school special “Why doesn’t Johnny care?”… the goofy ape costumes (on par with what Professor Bobo)… and the theme that runs through season 3: Sandy Frank, and the Sandy Frank song.
Agreed that both had moments of platinum. When I say I "like Joel" and "don't like Mike," I'm referring specifically and only to the host segments - they were stronger (i.e. more directly related to the movie) during the Joel era than the Mike era.
Godot. Godot. Godot. Godot Godot. Godot. Fun fact. My family rarely called anyone by name. When the phone rang, usually for me, my parents would just growl.
I never used to care for Joel when I was younger, but as I've gotten older, I've come to understand his monotone air of apathy.
He had no spark for comedy, he brought down the show. It’s not til Mike came in that it became comedy gold.
I will only watch the Joel episodes. I've never made it through a Mike. Negative funny.

Crap.
It's crap.
Travis Bohrer lol😊
I think he was just quoting from the show, not crapping on SF
Scooter Ragsdale true👻
nothing really takes you back the wat commercials do. hearing penn jillette's voice do promo's for comedy central really tickles my nostalgia senses.
"I smell a rat!... Oh it's you Pepe."
"Johnny was bad, even as a child everybody could tell ---
And everyone said if you don't get straight you'll surely go to hell ---
But Johnny didn't care....."
Thank you, Oingo Boingo, for warning us about him all those years ago.
The boy next door you've known for years
Has up and made the headlines
The front page read he lost his head
There'd be nothing like this in a long time
No no now child they must be wrong
All his neighbours say
Johnny was a good boy
Did what he should boy
Just wouldn't act that way
Yes they say he was everybody's friend
But now they put him away and say he just may do it again
They interviewed the folks he knew
For some dumb reason why (Johnny was a good boy)
Asked his mom where she went wrong
She'll say god knows I've tried (Johnny was a good boy)
Good plain boy would just go bad one day
He said he couldn't help himself
But police suspect foul play . . . etc.
"It's the Daleks! Exterminate, exterminate, exterminate!" When awesome TV shows collide...
"Go go Godo watch him go go go." Hilarious.
"Are you a Hatfield or a McCoy?"
I'm a doctor, not a script writer.
"Take a little off the sides, like, like what he's got! Oh, more, more. Thank you sir, oh thank you!"
"ohh this movie is even stupider then I thought"
no kidding.
Completely unrelated to your comment (which I fully agreed with)
But is that the Fear and Loathing guy as your avatar?
yup, Raoul Duke :p
Fear Monarch This is actually a compilation movie made out a TV series. Admittedly, a very bad one.
But part of the reason for this being such a disjointed movie is that Sandy Frank condensed the footage in such a way that entire story arcs simply breeze by before you can make any sense of them. Adding to the picture's problems is that MST3K actually cut the movie down, so it's missing key scenes and makes even less sense than it would otherwise.
The full length version of the film isn't really that much better, though.
At least the fashion is good. Late 60s at its best.
Posey Very late 60s,... the 70s in fact.
And Godo was forever in her heart, or at the least hanging close to it. 🚀
1:04:56 LMAO that goofy voice never ever gets old! Go figure!
1:09:04 Home, where my thoughts escape me? Home ,where I comb my facey?
12:26 "The plot contrivance switch" entered my list of favorite phrases when I first watched this episode years ago.
One of my favorites in a similar vein is whenever a news broadcast is shown, and they say "PLOT CONVENIENCE NEWS!"
@@analogkid0121:16 "must you scream every observation" has become one I use depressingly often in real life 😅
This modded Fallout 4 playthrough looks great!
"Welcome to Plot Convenience Playhouse" Tom singing My Generation 😂
Crow: "go to hell? Hey he feeds you, takes you into his home and that's the thanks?!"
🤣 36:57
I don't think you can intentionally make a movie this bad but thank the fellas at MST3K for making it worth the watch.
I appreciate the share!
CLASSIC! Japanese rip off of POAs! This is MST3K at its absolute finest!
What? They missed a setup like "I've been waiting for you, Godot" at 1:12:15? Not even a giggle or a smirk?
Agreed that both had moments of platinum. When I say I "like Joel" and "don't like Mike," I'm referring specifically and only to the host segments - they were stronger (i.e. more directly related to the movie) during the Joel era than the Mike era.

Fun fact. My family rarely called anyone by name. When the phone rang, usually for me, my parents would just growl.
