    I've never understood why transmission pans don't have drain plugs. One of the big mysteries of mankind. 😅 Good job!

      I feel like the older pans did, seems like it anyway, I could be wrong. Forget it on modern stuff for the most part. When the vehicles are $80,000 the manufacturers really need to save that $0.03 cents per vehicle.

      They do it so people don’t f with it themselves, they want us to just take it to the dealer 🤷🏽‍♂️ you’d be surprise the amount of people who see a tik tok or yt vid and end up messing up there car by doing something they shouldn’t have or doing said thing wrong.

      It means they don't want your car to last too long.

      On my 19 superduty it doesn’t have a drain plug. Had to leave 2 front bolts in and take the rest out let it drain in a big pan. From there it was easy. 17’s and earlier came with the drain plug. I think they want you to take it to a dealer so they make it as hard as possible. Changed mine at 35k and it was starting to get brown, change it regularly or don’t mess with it later. My neighbor changed his for the first time at 150k and month later it broke down.

    My sugestión, if someone don't know the clearances between the pan and the valve body or any critical components, you can put a drill bit stopper to allow just enough length to go through the pan thickness.
    I do the same with the ZF transmissions because after you drain the oil you will have still about 2 quarts bouncing inside while you are trying to maneuver between the body parts especially on 4×4 vehicles

      Excellent idea! That would work nicely!

    your genius idea to drain the oil pan is to drill a hole in it.... you have to take the pan off to replace the filter anyways. if it really bothers you, clean it up, get the right location in the pan and put in an aftermarket plug kit.

      It didn’t bother me in the slightest. We already had a new pan ready on the shelf. This was the less messy option to drain the old one🙃

    Fun stuff there. That big pump body seal was just starting to leak on mine when I did the engine and trans last summer. If it doesn't have that white dipstick tube hole assembly plug in the pan it's been changed before.

      Ah yes!!! The mysterious assembly plug! I remember those. Been a while since I’ve seen one. Fun stuff indeed 😁

    I would use a step drill for a bigger hole.

    You could just take it to a metal fabrication shop have a drain plug welded into it

    • @SwedeMachine
      @SwedeMachine  15 днів тому

      Yes that is possible depending on the fan shops hourly rate of course.

    Why does the bottom of the housing look so chewed up? Any ideas?

    Japanese transmissions have drain holes. Also, where’s the magnet?😅. If I were you I’d weld one in

    maybe half of the fluid. the rest is sitting in the TC. the only way to flush is idle it and pull the cooling line while letting the suction line suck in from a fresh jug.

    I guess if you wanted to be really cheap you could solder the hole closed?

      @@SwedeMachine You could also install one of those add on threaded drain plug bungs to the hole as well.

    Why would you drill a hole in the pan? That does not make any sense. The oil will come out when you loosen all the bolts and the remove the bolts on one end of the pan. Leave the bolts on the other end very loose. When you tilt the pan down you will drain almost all of the oil.

    • @SwedeMachine
      @SwedeMachine  15 днів тому

      New pan with drain plug was purchased before I drained it. Much cleaner to drill and discard old pan vs doing the whole stupid tilting the pan program😉
