One important step she left out that helped me is after you bend it, run it under cold water so the plastic hardens. Otherwise, it will tend to slowly bend back to it's original shape

I had some pair of glasses that were sitting so crooked on my face others started to notice it and i got a new pair. I missed the old ones but couldnt stand how crooked they were. No matter how many times i went back to the glasses shop to get adjusted, they were still crooked! I did the blowdryer trick and now they fit great and i love how they look on me! Thank you so much!!

Best video of all time! I bought sunglasses from you guys a few months ago and they were bent from day 1 with one temple sitting higher than the other. I was just like whatever and wore them anyways. But they always bothered me. I googled how to fix bent glasses and this video came up. I just did the hairdryer trick with the switch on HOT and HIGH for 60 seconds and did the bend. Now the sunglasses are perfectly aligned.
    Customer for life here!

I felt the same as you, my glasses also had a hefty price tag on them too, but I had an old pair of glasses that I tried it on first and to my surprise, it worked really well. Tried the 1 min. heat first and the bridge did give some, heated it again and it bent to the degree that I wanted. You have to gently bend it, not forcibly, but gently. I am now wearing glasses that don't fall off my face. I made the bridge pliable and the ear portions pliable. Very satisfied with not having to go to the eyeglass store. Another thing, after heating to the degree that it was bendable, I also held it in place until the portion that I was heating cooled enough so that it couldn't be bent again and held the new degree that it was bent to.

I just put the hairdryer on the bridge for one minute and bended it so that it sits better to my left ear. It works! While putting the hairdryer, I made sure to keep it at a minimum distance and I turned the frames continuously so that the heat can go everywhere evenly. Finally I can put on this frame I bought months ago without feeling weird! Thanks for the tip!

If you have transition, or anti-scratch/anti-glare, heat will damage the lenses. I would remove your lenses before heating up the frame. They should have mentioned this in the video.

You can just use water which will make sure the lenses won’t heat up too much, but don’t let the water get on the lens. Just use the tap, don’t go boiling water for obvious reasons.

Thank you for all the lens meltdown, crack, damage etc. concerns. I cut some 3 ' x 12" strips of rag and wrapped them around my lenses and aimed at the bridge with as little of the ragged part involved as possible and it worked fine. No problems. No lens eating monsters out of the closet, or aliens lens probes. The cloth remained cool to the touch as did the lens while the frame, bridge, temple stems got hot enough to bend.

I would recommend hot water instead of a blow dryer or a heat gun. That's how I did my my adjustments. I don't know what the heat tolerance is for some of these lenses today, but if you overheat those things, you're potentially out some serious cash. I don't think hot water can reach those kind of damaging temperatures. Depending on the frames, you may not need as much heat as you think. I was able to make all the adjustments I needed with nothing more than hot water. Plastic is more pliable than you think with a little heat.

IMPORTANT!!!! Don't do this if you have transition, blue blocker, anti glare etc lenses. I just did it and now there's spider cracks through my entire lense! The only reason I don't care is because I'm swapping them out for my corrected lense but I used a towel to block the heat but the frame heated up and transferred it to my lense and ruined one of them. You've been warned!

    • @RichLP1
      @RichLP1 5 років тому

Did you cut the towel to size? Just wrapping it uncut provides no means of controlling how much of the lens is protected.

I always end up adjusting my eyeglasses. However, I don't use the hairdryer. I tend to adjust at the joints of the eyeglass when one side sits higher than the other and if they slip down my nose, I use Keepons which I discovered about 6 years ago looking for a way to keep my glasses on my face. This is the most useful video on the issue with misaligned glasses. Got a pair of expensive prescription sunglasses, and since my right ear is a tick higher than the other, new frames need to be adjusted. My old optometrist (she knew how to fix these things) does not work there anymore and the new person, who claims she is doing that job for 30 years, has no clue what to do...... My glasses were still higher on the one side, the person shrugging her shoulders: there is nothing I can do anymore, i tried EVERYTHING. I left the store VERY upset because I was afraid she is going to damage the frame. And here is help! It worked wonderfully, I softened the bridge and twisted the frame, it fits now!!!!! Bent the arm ends a bit down that they don't slide down my nose. Perfect fit within minutes. Thank you for this video. I guess I have to order from 39dollarglassesDATcom in the future. Saves me a lot of money.

My glasses are brand new (plastic) and do not sit even when on a flat service and when they’re upside down, so I know the temple arms at the hinges were made slightly uneven, what should I do?
I feel like asking for a new pair because I hate the idea of having new glasses bent just because they were made crooked.
Also if I do adjust them myself how would I know if it’s the hinge that’s uneven or the middle the nose pad bit?
    Thank you

You can try heating up the glasses with a blowdryer so the plastic is more flexible. As we commented in the other video, if you are nervous about breaking the glasses you can always bring them to your local optical store to get checked out.

Hi Nancee, great question :) if you feel uncomfortable doing this while the lenses are in, you can always take them out and put them back in afterwards. Most of the time it's fine, unless you keep the heat focused on one spot for too long or if the dryer is extra hot. Let us know if you have any more questions!

you should NEVER adjust a frame by twisting the bridge!! pushes one lens towards the cheek and one away from it messing up the lens alignment!!!!! completely wrong!

Aishling Hughes yup. absolutely. take it to any eyeglass spot they’ll adjust it for free professionally. it’s also super easy to align one area and mess up another.

Please do note that exposing photochromic lenses against hair-dryers will definitely deteriorate its transition effects and radiation safety filters.

I tried this with a different brand and ruined my lenses. They got scratches and cloudy. I should have just gone to my eye doctors office and had them do it for free. Now I have to buy new glasses.

I read somewhere that certain lense types are susceptible to heat and should not be cleaned with HOT water. I imagine that one must be careful when trying this technique, to not use heat on the lenses so much as concentrating it on the frame. This warning should be included in the video as well as the video description area.

You`re right, this happened to me, too. But, in fact, the people who work at the opticians ruined my glasses, not me :D They`ve used hot air to bend it, and they did something wrong... I was lucky, coz it was their fault, so I got new lenses.

I tried this once and completely screwed up my lenses and my frames. If you're not good with your hands I advise you take them to your local eye center and or Walmart and they will fix them for you. Although they will warn you beforehand that they are not liable for damages, and they may or may not charge you a ridiculous price for bending plastic... Honestly at this point just invest in eye surgery. That's what I'm doing and hopefully one day I won't need glasses.

Nah... twisting the bridge will make the frame uneven. The bottom part of one is nearer the cheek.
