      I'm not a big fan of a battery that displays 300 amps and the BMS is only rated for 200 amps.

      @mannyfragoza9652 i get that! I know that personally I will never come close to using 200 amps myself.

      It's funny how when u r offgrid u listen to your fridge turn on, and off all the time..when u r ongrid u take energy for granted and don't think about it much...I am using solar, and batteries with genny..not using electricity right now...

      Would u believe the owner of this place originally had an 8amp battery charger provided to charge 6 batteries for my solar? My electrician friend was shocked..he told me to pick up a 30-40 amp charger then I would actually be charging my batteries!....sarcasm...it's been interesting living here...

    That was a very fun watch and you have an amazing system.Please ..... Not from a keyboard warrior but someone who lives off grid for the past eight years. When you go to add solar to Your off grid system , please upgrade the solar charge controller before Before anything else!!! Get a true m p p t yours is not!!! Even though it says it it is not. You could damage those beautiful batteries and your Solar intake would be So much better and protected. Thanks again for your time for doing this video.Super fun new subscriber here. From one off grider who is a solar nerd to another off grider. Please heed my warnings!!!!

    You might want to install another switch that will also shut power from the solar panels just in case at night the batteries don’t reverse flow and cook your panels.

    • @SeanInAlaska

      I actually have that switch installed already. Good call though!

    As a Northern Canadian, your review about cold is very relevant. Our current lead acid batteries are outside in a box.
    Do the heated batteries stand up to the cold well?

    • @SeanInAlaska

      Since my batteries are in my cabin I really have not had a need for the heating feature. I went with a heated battery in case the heat fails while I am at work.

    Definitely a step up in comfort! Think about wind turbine in addition to solar.
    Wondering how higher amp charger might save a gas. Faster charging - more load on gen, more gas to spend. At the end of the day it'll be same amount of energy transferred.
    Less charging amps will contribute to battery longevity, although I'd ask manufacturer about optimal charging settings.
    One concern - inverter/batteries/wires... maybe cover electric room area with cement boards and keep electric-rated fire extinguisher nearby.

    • @SeanInAlaska
      @SeanInAlaska  Місяць тому +2

      Wind turbines out here are not worth the effort to install really. As for the electrical wall safety, every single section of wire is fused or has a safety cutoff.

    I’m in the northwest territories I’m in the same place as you…lol just running batteries for now… I want with the lie batteries one 300 amp and one 200 amp…. I can get a week out of them before after recharge them.. I ordered another 200 amp…. i’ll probably get a note 300 amp….. I’m running a 60 amp charger and it takes a good 10 hours to charge the batteries… I think I want 100 amp…. One thing to note I use a Honda generator a 2200i it seems to take a little longer than my old 6500 i’ve got a 3000 W diesel generator I wanna get up and running….. just trying to figure out how many solar panels I need for up here I was thinking maybe six 400 W panels…. what are your plans?

    • @SeanInAlaska
      @SeanInAlaska  Місяць тому +1

      I have a 2200i as well. I just installed my 80 amp charger and it takes 8 hours to go from zero to full for both batteries....or so my app says. I am at 40 state of charge now after 4 hours so that is pretty close.
      My plan for panels in the spring is to have 3 sets of 300 watt panels.
      Oh, I got 9 days out of the 600 amp hours before the batteries hit zero

    • @jerrychiasson9857
      @jerrychiasson9857 Місяць тому

      @@SeanInAlaska that’s really awesome I hope to hit that target…. i’ll have 700 amp hr i’ll try that first but I’d like to run a ceiling fan because my cabin has a loft… so maybe I’ll need 1000…. I have a 3000 W diesel generator that I need to get running I’ll build a little shed for it and put a Chinese diesel heater inside of it I love those things…. You’ve gotta be really careful with the install and make sure you shut down running it hot but other than that they’re fantastic…. I’ll preheat it with that and run the diesel generator for the winter…. The Yamaha doesn’t like -35… Honda ran perfectly fine….lol I love your video because it’s from the bush exactly where I live…lol

    • @SeanInAlaska
      @SeanInAlaska  Місяць тому

      @jerrychiasson9857 i have a loft as well, but i am going to try and find a 12 volt, DC ceiling fan....much more power friendly lol! I will most likely double my battery bank eventually, but i really have low power requirements so there is no hurry at this point!

    In order to charge/discharge your 2 batteries evenly, you will have to concect the 2 tails (black + red DC cables leading to the bussbars) to different batteries. Consequently, connect one of the two to the lower battery in a diagonal fashion.

    • @SeanInAlaska
      @SeanInAlaska  Місяць тому

      So, that was my original thought as well, but after doing some reading, I opted not to do it that way. I have an app that tells me what each battery is doing at any given time, and i have found that these batteries have been balancing each other out on their own. They are both at the same state of charge everyday now. I am loving how smart these batteries are!
