is there a way to fade/blend smoothly the texture/displacement on a particular patch instead of the entire object? like, if the texture could be faded as we moved towards the boundary of the sole of the shoe?

This is while back but I think it was just the default Rhino Renderer in Rhino 5. You can try switching to Rhino Render in the Render menu > Current Renderer flyout to use the texture palette.
I export multiple surfaces with displacement to a STL and when I open the STL file I see many surface without the texture, I do it again and now other surfaces are without texture.
Hi, Make sure to use ExtractRenderMesh on the surfaces that are displaced. Then select just those (SelMesh or SelLast can help) and use the Export command to save out the STL for just that selection. The displacement is something only Rhino will see until you extract the render mesh.

What render plug-in are you using? Getting an error saying the texture palette is not supported by my current one.
