    Many gun company’s have attempted to build the MP5. Rollerlock sheet metal clam shell folded firearms required much more precision to build correct and to spec.

      Old tech that doesn't lend itself to modern, inexpensive manufacturing techniques. Not many places still fold steel and weld guns when the same gun can be constructed from a mold and an extruded aluminum handguard.

      In the MP5 world, it absolutely is. The PTR-9 and MKE manufactured Century AP5 are around $1,700 to $1,899. The HK SP5 and SP5K are around $2,500 or more. That said, this greatly concerns me as this puts the MAC5 in the price point of Cohare, Vector, Special Weapons, Bobcat, etc. which were all terrible guns. (I owned just about all of them.) Reliable MP5 clones seemingly can't be done that cheap. No MP5 clone sold at that price point has ever been successful. Those were also priced at just over $1,000 10 plus years ago. Factoring in for inflation, these seem way too good to be true.
      It's also worth pointing out that those crappy Todd Bailey guns were DOA after MKE and POF guns started being imported into the U.S. Of course the licensed contract copy guns are $500-$800 more expensive but they actually work which is something you can't say about the $1,000 MP5 knock offs. It took PTR years to reverse engineer and successfully clone the MP5. The reasons why the Pakistani made POF and Turkish MKE made ATI, Zenith and Century guns work is because they are licensed copies built on HK tooling. These are the factories that made them for the Pakistani and Turkish militaries respectively.
      I'm a bit of an MP5 whore, so I'd like nothing more than to believe this is possible. However, I'm skeptical this can be done at this price point. But if these end up being good, I'll be all over them.

    • @EliAngwin
      @EliAngwin 6 місяців тому +4

      There is no reason why with the tech we have now vs what was available 30yrs ago that a true MP5 clone can’t be made and be reliable for 1000$ or less. Especially, when a good portion of the gun is polymer and stamped steel.

    • @Spamsmoothie1701
      @Spamsmoothie1701 6 місяців тому

      @@EliAngwin History has shown us otherwise. $1,000 MP5 clones have existed since the late 1990's and early 2000's. None of them were remotely reliable. The only way to make those guns run was to gut them and replace parts with German parts until the damn things worked. Even then, some guns were so far out of spec that this wasn't even possible. That's $1,000 in late 1990's and early 2000's money. They still couldn't make the guns reliable at that price and still turn a profit.
      The HK MP5 was released in the mid-1960's. It's much more than 30 years old. The Thompson sub-machine gun was invented in the 1920's. It was famously expensive to produce and cost about a third the price of a car in its day. When the military adopted it they started cutting corners on them to make them cheaper to produce. Today, the Auto Ordnance versions of the guns are almost $2,000.
      1911 is 100 years old and it costs way more to make a 1911 than it does a Glock. Sure, you can find $400 1911's but they are built in other countries where the labor is considerably cheaper and then they are imported into the U.S. Plus, those guns are not quality weapons. Some designs are more complex than others. A lot of the work to build an MP5 is done by hand. You fold the receiver flat via jig and then it has to be welded together and "boxed" in spec. Then you have to weld on the sights, etc. The barrels are pressed into the trunion. While there is a press used, its still done by a person.
      The trigger group is far more complicated than something like the CZ Scorpion EVO's. Only the housing of the trigger pack is polymer and while that does include the grip, that's basically it for polymer on the MP5 aside from the handguard. The roller delayed system isn't really all that simple compared to straight blow back pistol caliber carbines and submachine guns.
      Let's also not forget that PSA actually had a prototype MP5 clone a couple of years ago and they targeted the $1,000 or thereabouts price point. They gave up on that idea because it wasn't viable. Just because a design is older doesn't mean its automatically cheaper to produce. It's not a question of technology, but of complexity and its dependent on how much labor there is involved in the construction of a given item. This is why custom 1911's with non-MIM parts are several thousand dollars. There is a lot of hours of very skilled labor involved in their construction.

      @@bozscaggzz7475 SDS Imports referring to their semi-automatic firearm as an 'MP5 clone' is a common practice in the firearm industry focused on marketing and heritage. The original MP5 is an iconic firearm with a strong legacy.
      The SP5 is Heckler & Koch's very own clone of the MP5. Both the HK SP5 and the SDS Imported MAC-5 are semi-auto “clones” of the MP5. Referring to the SDS imports version as an “SP5 Clone” would be unusual since the SP5 is already a “clone” or adaptation of the MP5. It would be a clone of a clone.
      When SDS Imports or similar companies import/create their versions, they normally reference the MP5 to capitalize on its widespread recognition and prestige, even though these newer models are semi-automatic like the SP5. This approach isn't about deceiving consumers; it's about aligning with the iconic status of the MP5. The firearm community generally understands this terminology as referring to the style and design lineage rather than the specific technicalities of firing mechanisms.
