And be thankful if you live in a society or community where love is love, regardless of who you choose to love. But do strive to be kind and to do no harm, and make amends in this life. I do hope something better awaits us on the other side. That there will remain a last phase of perfection like a butterfly struggling to escape its chrysalis. Translating such an enormous piece of literature is a titanic effort. You should definitely read it in Italian. In English almost everything gets lost.
I studied it at the high school and it took me three years, one for each cantica. The Divina Commedia is a summa of the medieval culture and all those who want to seriously study it should learn Italian. There's no other way. I've red an English translation some years ago and I felt it was like explaining to a blind man what colours look like.
El Niño maybe you can enlighten me because I don’t understand, how are things missing when it’s translated? I’m not being sarcastic I really want to kno. Do they skip over things or what how are pieces of literature lost?
From what I have read is that Dante was inspired by the sad love story between Francesca Da Polenta & Paolo. This inspired Dante to have a vision of Paolo tenderly embracing Francesca to protect her against the forces swirling about them in Hades. It's my favorite love story, it's truly sadness!!! 💔 Hope that helps😊

Nothing to laugh at here !
Except perhaps the excessive reverence for the pathetic.?
Translating such an enormous piece of literature is a titanic effort. You should definitely read it in Italian. In English almost everything gets lost.
El Niño :[
I studied it at the high school and it took me three years, one for each cantica. The Divina Commedia is a summa of the medieval culture and all those who want to seriously study it should learn Italian. There's no other way. I've red an English translation some years ago and I felt it was like explaining to a blind man what colours look like.
El Niño I don't know Italian and I want to read this. What do I do
Read it, but be aware you are reading a sort of summary. Like traslating music into words.
El Niño maybe you can enlighten me because I don’t understand, how are things missing when it’s translated? I’m not being sarcastic I really want to kno. Do they skip over things or what how are pieces of literature lost?
Intro ends at 11:14
I'd imagine a movie based on this

Does anyone know if this was an actual vision dante had or is it just a story?
From what I have read is that Dante was inspired by the sad love story between Francesca Da Polenta & Paolo. This inspired Dante to have a vision of Paolo tenderly embracing Francesca to protect her against the forces swirling about them in Hades. It's my favorite love story, it's truly sadness!!! 💔
Hope that helps😊
I know that this might sound kind of rude considering the nature of an audiobook, but...no subtitles? Lol.
Actually book begins @ 11:11
Is there a version that is more modern English?
Become cultured and learn Victorian English. Or start reading olde English-style scriptures. It is more useful than most people think.
