Ha reverb is always our best friend but in the same time our greatest enemy....great subject . Very nice video with a very nice point of view as always 😊🙏
Thanks mate! Yes.. it’s a love hate relationship 😂
This vid really showed how much I need to up my FX game. Thanks for the helpful vid once again!
No problem mate! Hope you found some of the ideas helpful!
u are like a god of reverbs bro
Haha thanks
A true gem, really a great video - with very good Audio examples which underline the different techniques in an excellent way! Wish your channel will blow up, this is high quality stuff done in a very down to earth style 👍😀
Thanks very much mate!
Practical advice. Great!
Thanks!
Your mixes are sounding really good man.👍
Thanks so much mate!
Thanks as usual!
Thanks Kurt!
You can watch the video with the full mix of the song, which starts at the 8th minute. It sounds great and inspiring.
Love the video. Just a side idea, it would be interesting to see you do a mix using your monitor vs the waves NX studio / or similar, and headphones. To see if the plug-in actually works as a monitoring mixing solution. How close would they be? What are the differences? Etc.
Thanks mate! I don’t use NX or anything like Steven slate etc. but would be cool to see how it pans out!
@@spinlightstudios yeh! It's really hard mixing solely on headphones and I've been using the CLA version but still not sure it's a viable solution 🤷
This was very helpful! Could I use specifically any of these examples for metal/ lower screams? Thanks man always watch the videos!
Thanks Derek! Yeah, a bit of tape slap delay is always great on screams, the pre delay plate reverb can sound really good too. Even the dual delay can work a treat. It’s all dependent on the track, but I’d start with those and see how it sounds.
@@spinlightstudios thank you so much! Thanks for replying
Great video, Rhys. I love what you did with all of these tracks. Always a bonus when you use plugins that I already have. I've heard some cool tracks using Abbey Road, but I struggle with it. Maybe I just need to get more reps in with it. I usually default to FF Pro R2 or Soundtoys Little Plate. I have Valhalla Shimmer but it looks like I'm going to have to pick up Vintage Verb too.
On a side note: I use Superior Drummer 3. I want to support the channel - but I don't use Paypal and I'm not sure how I would use your sample packs. Can you explain to this newb, how I would use them? Sorry if that's a dumb question. I'm still learning. Thanks for the great content. Love the channel.
Thank you mate :) no worries about all that, just by watching and engaging is a great support too! The trigger samples are good for live drums, but the one shots could be fun if you need to enhance a sound or if program some little pop-kind of patterns
Amazing video as always! Btw I'm sure you've said this before but what digital fader ports are you using to the left of you on your desk?
Behringer x touch! Just made a video on it 🫡
@@spinlightstudios what amazing timing, thank you so much!! 🙏
Great video Rhys, do we need to have reverb in MONO ? my problem i didn't hear the vocal rev (stereo reverb channel) when listen to mobile/phone speaker (which is MONO i think).. vocal sound is very dry..
Hey mate, the vocals in this video are very dry?
I prefer the sound of stereo reverbs personally, I like the additional width they bring. most of the examples here are not so much about smothering the vocal in reverb and delay, but giving them a sense of space - if they sound dry in these examples, then when they are actually dry they would be reallllly dry.
hey mate, thanks for the reply...
sorry.. not the vocals in this video. actually they sound great with the reverbs. 😊
I mean in my mix the vocal sound very dry from the stereo reverbs. (only happens when i hear it at the phone speaker which is mono i think).. so i add a little bit mono reverb behind the vocal (tail reverbs) and it works. But still think the additional mono reverb not the best solution and sometime need to push more on the stereo reverbs.
how do you create busses in logic without adding extra dry volume to the tracks you're sending to it. i know with spacial effects you would turn the mix to 100% but for things like parallel comp it always adds a bunch of extra dry volume
Yeah, if you’re adding some sort of parallel compression or saturation etc, you’ll have to balance it out between the dry and wet signal.
How are you ensuring you’re not getting lots of latency when you’re mixing ? I find I am getting quite a lot even with the best m1 Mac. So maybe am doing something wrong in logic ?
When I’m mixing I change my buffer to to 1052 samples. Helps the mac run smoother. What kind of latency are you noticing while mixing?
@@spinlightstudios just static when recording multi tracks really. I typically lower the buffer to about 64 or there about when recording sometimes 128 as well.
I also don’t have latency when am monitoring using my audio interface, only when doing this in logic . Interface is Clarett+ 8 Pre. Typically only when multi tracking, it was so bad that we recorded midi from my montage and the entire timing was off as a result making the track totally not usable . Not sure if maybe there was something else at fault.
My logic is also extremely slow unless I click the low latency mode. Just playing and pausing there skis a delay
I don’t recall this happening before.
