Mr. James I figured I’d write to tell you two things, one I’ve watched your videos for years now and have hope of building a cabin of my own some day. And two I introduced your videos to my grandparents while they were staying at my house as my grandfather just got cancer. My grandfather watched all of your videos religiously and still does. Well his health has started to decline and he’s bed ridden and can barely move without help. Today I put on one of your videos and he started to smile and that’s the first time in weeks we’ve seen him smile. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for producing such great content, and most of all for putting a smile on my grandfather (Mr. Brewers) face. Thank you and god bless. ~Devon Davis
Devon Davis - Blessings and prayers going out to the Brewers-Davis family. You are a good and loving grandson, I am sure that your grandfather feels fortunate to have you.
Mr Davis that’s an amazing story about your grandfather Sir. I also have been watching Shawn’s channel for years and I have found this channel to be one of the most wholesome of most I’ve seen on UA-cam. I’m an older Man myself & What I see Mr Davis and I’m sure your grandfather sees the exact same thing as well.......What I see Is not only Shawn’s hard work ethics like I grew up with......But I see the same exact thing your grandfather does watching this channel. Watching this channel I SEE BACK IN TIME when I was a Boy Growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of NC. I see so clearly In my mind My Grandmothers Cabin built on the side of that mountain. I see the water Well that my father and grandfather dug by hand as dad was lowered into the ground with a rope to hand dig buckets of dirt they pulled out over his head until he finally hit water 50-60 feet deep. I see myself as a young boy going to that well & drawing out cold 🥶 Crystal clear Mountain water 💦 with a hand crank spool and rope. I see myself carrying that water in to pour into the wood cookstove reservoir where we heated our water and carrying in buckets of drinking water. I see us using water dippers to dip out our drinking and bathing water with. I see myself going to the woodshed To Bust and haul firewood into the cabin. I see our old outhouse like the one Shawn has. I see myself growing up and us living the quiet stress free but hard life just like I see on this channel! I see the same thing your grandfather does I see a much simpler life, but it was a happy life. We was poor people but we didn’t know we was poor and The Good Lord always provided our every need! God Bless your grandfathers heart ❤️ that he gets to see the same happiness that we seen growing up many years ago at a much simpler and happier time! Bless you Mr Davis you’re a good Grandson and I’m sure your grandparents are very proud of you!!! May God Bless you richly.

Shawn, there's absolutely no need for you to share all the details of your family arrangements with us. Personally, I'm just happy that believe it was primarily the bugs that drove Mrs James away. I have big sympathy with that! I think it was a huge thing for her to even consider joining you full-time, so kudos. True. I find that most people who go "back to nature" have rural backgrounds or never left these areas. Shawn has metioned he has been doing this since he was in his 20s and maybe earlier. Maybe that's the reason it's "easier" for him.
Mr. Lonely Man, you are not alone, you got thousand of people who loves you and loves to watch you doing your daily chores around the farm! We all love Cali too!
A tip from a nordic man is to pickle the spruce-tips ,with sugar and vinegar, and eat them instead. Either with meat or cured fish, taste brilliant, and you get all the vitamins in your stomach instead of your skin. Taste is similar to rosemary with a hint of citrus. Love your channel!

Shawn, what you do and what you have accomplished so far is an awesome thing but I saw the sadness in your face in the previous videos and knew that your wife could not stay there permanently at this stage. That will change once everything you plan to build will mostly be finished. Continue to follow your dream. I too had to help my husband to build his dream and often felt isolated and lonely being without family in this far away country Australia where we did not have any family except the one we created with our own children. Thank you for sharing your journey, bugs and all. xxx
My heart goes out to you and your family what a shame things had to go the way they have been going it's always best to keep your family safe you're a good man
Never make a word about your family's other location there is no reasons for it Shawn.👍 this you tube channel is about this home and the life that revolves around it only. Thanks and God bless .
Whatever you want to keep private, just keep it private. There's plenty of things to show and tell us about instead, like Cali for instance. Family comes first! We'll be here whenever you have news to tell us. Don't worry!
Its so important for a relationship thar partners understand one another and adapt/compromise. Thats why your marriage is strong, you both understand what the other needs to make him/her happy. Please keep your family safe as that make you happy, and i hope you all have a peaceful summer
You know what watching this particular video has learnt me, that living this lifestyle, your dog Cali, can dig, roll around in the mud etc, basically do everything that dogs love to do, and you’re not bothered in the slightest about her getting your home dirty. I think that’s wonderful. Not only are you living your best life, you’re giving your dog, her best life too. I love that. 🤎🐾
Shawn you are appreciated . You have continued to provide us with great content and a special look at what it takes to do what you are doing . I wish your family well and pray for yours and their continued success and good health. You are awesome
I',m a medically retired vet, born and raised in New York City, and I'm growing tired of being around society. Your videos put me in a state of equanimity.
I was happy your wife came to live with you! I'm sure your wife and you will find your balance! I live in a suburb between Minneapolis and St. Paul. Between the Covid-19 and now the riots and unemployment, getting a heart infection and my brother losing his wife to cancer its been a ruff run for everyone! Watching your videos is something my youngest son and I look forward to, keep up the good work! I'm almost 100% Irish genetically but if you weren't born on that Rock you will always be 100% Yank! My son and I found your channel while I recovered from my heart infection. All of my family watched your trip to Richard Proenneke's cabin it was Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing your adventure with us but nothing comes before family!!! These are challenging times to do what you need to do. Family first!!! We wish you and your family the best and look forward to seeing you in the future.
I think you and your wife have created the perfect balance of time together and apart. In doing so, you have strengthened your bonds. In doing so, you have also created the perfect way of protecting your family from the difficult times that we are currently experiencing. Between what your wife and daughters purchase and what you all grow and hunt/fish, your food supply is richer than if you were all stuck in the suburbs. If things ever got really stuck in the city, you could isolate yourselves out there on the property until the situation improves. THAT is self reliance.
What a beautiful area. The birds in the background of the audio, the colors of spring and your wonderful cabin setting. My favorite space is your outdoor kitchen. I can't wait to see your greenhouse. Shawn, you inspire so many people. Being a part of your journey is a true gift. I have scene an area of the world I would never have seen without your channel. I enjoy every video. Please know that I and most likely everyone else that watches your videos hope for the very best for you. And much happiness for you and your family. You are never really alone, we are enjoying your videos all over the world. Stay well.
Shawn, It must be be an amazing relationship to be able to come to the agreement you have. You all must be the persons you are inside, both you and your wife... From what I have seen in your videos you (and your wife and daughters) are strong people. Believe in your relationships and nurture them. Each follows their calling, but circles around the common union. Blessing be upon you and your family. I wish you happiness and a strong future.! God Bless you all !! Oh... And I have to say Cali is a wonderful soul to have with you. !
I was a little concerned when You said you were alone again. I’m glad everyone is ok. God Bless You all. Can’t wait to see Your shop and greenhouse. 👍❤️
Mr. James, your family is your business and no one else. I appreciate you sharing but you are doing what you and your family think is best and it really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. I’m sure everything is the way that is best for all of you. And no matter what happens your true followers will always be here. Thank you for all you do.
So appreciate that you would share bits of your lives with us. Even though I am outdoorsy to some degree, black flies and mosquitoes in measure you experience them would be very hard. Add that to high humidity with no electric fans would be very challenging. Sharing how you all work things out gives a model to countless other families. That we can be different, have different needs, and still. supportive and strong as families, may not be easy but doable.
Gonna be even more so in the fall. We are in for more troubled times ahead, I do believe. Stash away some stuff.. food, ammo, gold, copper, medicine, etc

Thank you for your honesty Shawn . I’m a 66 year woman whose husband is like you and I am like your wife. I hate mosquitoes but they love me. I do not enjoy the heat. My husband and I have a strong marriage like you both. But in the summer I prefer the city he likes to stay in our cabin in woods.......mosquitos do not bother him at all. So we tend to get together whenever we can in the summer time. He hikes up high in the mountains he will text me with his Garmin InReach and I always know where he is gives me more peace of mind. I’m sharing with you. I support you both 100 percent as I relate been doing for a lot longer than u and it works. Stay Safe. Keep doing the great work you do
I've always found it weird how so many couples, once they get married, are joined at the hip. You are still two individual people with your own needs, wants, and life. I don't think staying joined at the hip is healthy. I think the way ya live is the healthier option.
I had it the opposite. I grew up camping all the time with parents. Married a guy that never did. He would always complain about bugs. Even bugs that didn't bite. Then when we had a son I would have to force him to do it for the sake of the boy and his social outdoor activities. We mostly ended up spending days at beach. I just got to me and I would take trips to country on my own or with my son. I just grew resentful. Vacations trips he would sleep in and we would drive in the late dark hours. I wanted to see where we were. Enjoy the daytime view. He was a mess. I finally realized I was doing everything for everybody. Grrr.
I've written before, I am 70 and my husband is 70 . We happen to have two residences- one in the country and one in the city. I can be anywhere but am often in the city alone because I like museums., libraries, and coffee shops. He can't stand the city. Many people have assumed that we are separated. I think this arrangement is perfect because our conversations are much richer . I can totally empathize with your wife, Shawn.
Watching this gentleman go through difficult tasks and still enjoys the progress he endures. Love watching old school ways in today’s times. Love watching it’s very educational not to mention relaxing. Oh, let’s not forget his sweet dog, too!
I honestly admire you. I'm a medically retired vet, and the more I'm around society the more stressful I fell. Your videos bring me equanimity. I might even go off the grid myself.
You don’t have to be a medically retired Veteran to feel living in modern society is stressful. I appreciate your service and have to admit I never served, yet I still feel very strongly to a more rural life away from the hectic city life. In the end it’s all good if you find your own personal piece of heaven.
Dark, you are probably too tied to health care systems to be off the grid. I am a veteran also so thanks for your service but be realistic. You would probably die out there, and that is OK. We are all going to go. The reality is we were made to be in FELLOWSHIP with other people and nature.
4phillip...I don't want to seem like I'm starting anything, but the vet didn't say only veterans feel that way. Just seems like what you said to him specifically was unnecessary. Yes, it can apply to anyone. Absolutely agree with you on that. I'm going to step back again and enjoy his videos he shares with us. - wife of a veteran here (and I feel the same way you all do, especially in today's climate )
I am looking forward to watching your progress with all your projects. I'm glad that your family has choose compromise over dissolution of your marriage, many in your shoes are not mature enough to keep their promises to one another, before God. I come from a farm and a woods background so can appreciate that form of life, but my wife is a city girl and we have had to compromise, also. Also always, God bless you all.
My boyfriend and I love your videos, we watch them together when we're relaxing. We both say, "what's he going to do with that or I wonder what he's planning there"... lol I even seen him nodding off a couple times 😄 when he's very relaxed. I hope there's many more to come! ❤
Heloo, friend! Mi name is Rodrigo, from Porto Alegre city, south of Brasil. I like to much to your lifestyle, and mi objective is take a cabin like yours. Congratulations for your good Work! And sorry for mi poor english. 😁
Absolutely love this channel . Watching in Ireland and this all brings me back to my youth , except for the bears and wolfs ... Keep it coming and stay safe
As a woman myself and never living in the wild I was wondering how your sweet wife would take to the everyday life in the wild.. I ( personally) would enjoy short stays but miss the conveniences of modern technology, heat, air, hot water, etc..I am happy that your family has found a middle ground that you can all enjoy and still spend precious time together.. I’m sure it will all work out... The very best to you all and I LOVE THAT DOG ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Flladybug I would imagine it’s more of a challenge for a woman to live off grid long term, for obvious reasons. It sounds fun & appealing, but when reality sets in, it’s just not as seductive as it sounded.
I am also a woman.I live in Australia and have lived bush as well as spending extended time in the desert. Suffered huge culture shock on my return to the city. never wanted to leave but didn't own the land on which I was living. Being post menapausal, it was no trouble for me to live rough out bush. I would quit the city in an instant if I could - even at 70. Nothing so magnificent as an unpolluted night sky. I miss it fiercely. Love this series. Makes me yearn for the freedom times.
Hi Shawn, at least she tried. It’s not an easy move to go from urban to a self reliant log cabin. I understand she loves the cooler weather, fall, winter and spring. Yes summer would be hot and mosquitoes seem to love Irish and English blood, I come up in welts too. Not nice. Not nice to have to secure your property and take safety precautions. Stay safe. No doubt you will work out an amicable arrangements where she comes for periods when the bugs are not an issue, and you spend time with her in urban environment. A win win option. You did make wonderful changes to your environment and those extra spaces will be a wonderful asset. Honesty in a relationship is so important. Things will work out for you both and your girls. Cali, she makes me smile, love the mud and dirt look. At least you have a stream close by where she can swim it off. Dog 🐕 rolling to make her extra dirty.
What good is this life if you don't have another person to share it with. Even after all the years you have spent building this place up to share it with a dog that's fine people are supposed to be sociable but if a dog will do you that's great. At least she stayed with you for you to build one of the biggest UA-cam channels there was and is. Plus you have the other UA-cam channel. Life is about choices.
I totally understand your compromise.. kind of done the same... whatever you do we are all here to support you. Love the video's and looking forward to your continued adventures.. all the best from Simcoe County Ontario Canada!

@@Greenman422 No Australia's climate is nothing compared to Canada. To hot. I am a winter person.
your not alone, there is 1.38 million of us along with you. As others have said, you can decide what to share family wise while you may be a public figure on YT you are still entitled to your privacy and most of us would respect that
People who have never made anything with their own wits and two hands enjoy tearing stuff up. Keep building Shawn, we are with you!
😆😂🤪 that's funny
They seem to forget, the wildlife has to eat too!
Thank you for sharing your journey, bugs and all. xxx
Bugs seem to love the girls. I say BECAUSE WE ARE SWEETER!
My heart goes out to you and your family what a shame things had to go the way they have been going it's always best to keep your family safe you're a good man
You are such a good man with a grounded family. Blessings to you all.
Wow, I would truly love to be able to live this way
Never make a word about your family's other location there is no reasons for it Shawn.👍 this you tube channel is about this home and the life that revolves around it only. Thanks and God bless .
Whatever you want to keep private, just keep it private. There's plenty of things to show and tell us about instead, like Cali for instance. Family comes first! We'll be here whenever you have news to tell us. Don't worry!
Smiler from 'Last of the Summer Wine'?
I thought so too
@@maryblaylock6545 You are so right. It's a screenshot from the episode: Must be a good dancer!
Well spotted!
Thank you for your service, sir. o7
I couldn't agree more.
I'm in nyc too, and I really hate how dense we are here. I want to get a cabin upstate on some nice private land one day
Alles super schon nathulich.
Hey, you made that post twice, only now I know we are both in NYC. Stay safe during shut down and nightly curfew.
It’s so good that your family has options. Flexibility is key to survival.
I love the sound of you crunching through the snow as much as you walking through the woods.❤️🐾
Stay strong my friend may God always be with you and Kaylee
So happy to see a new upload! You make me long for a quiet, simple, off the grid life. Thank you for making these vids.
Looking at that dog, I would say she is probably the happiest dog in the world.
Stay well.
I'm sorry you're having security anxieties, that is very tough. Hang in there, we all love and support you.
There is something satisfying about the closing sound of the cabin door.
WHATEVER THE FUTURE HOLDS FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY GOD BLESS YOU .
James, keep your family private as much as you feel comfortable with :) best of luck going forward.
Thank you for all the useful information. Callie definitely won an Oscar for this video performance.
So peaceful.....out of all the nonsense..... wonderful bliss
It’s a bird, it’s a plane... it’s CALI! ....splash.. lol gotta love that dog❤️
I was a little concerned when You said you were alone again. I’m glad everyone is ok. God Bless You all. Can’t wait to see Your shop and greenhouse. 👍❤️
Your audio is phenomenal! I enjoy listening just as much as watching. Thanks Sir.
You are never alone when you have that four legged friend with you.
I completely agree with you))
a dirty one at that. > )
Dogs are the best companions for rough living. Whether alone or not. Dogs and cats have that needed, different perspective.
Shawn, nobody needs to know anymore than what has already been said, and shown.
Keep your privacy, for your Family be safe!
Cali the scene stealer, especially when she took a dive into the water. :)
Mr. James, your family is your business and no one else. I appreciate you sharing but you are doing what you and your family think is best and it really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. I’m sure everything is the way that is best for all of you. And no matter what happens your true followers will always be here. Thank you for all you do.
You are a serious inspiration. Thank you for what you do
Love the cracking fire with the birds in the background... “whistle while you work” 👍👍
So appreciate that you would share bits of your lives with us.
Great to know the missus is Irish! Tune in from Dublin every week 🍀🇮🇪👍
So do I from Kilkenny. Love this channel
A cabin in the woods never sounded so inviting until 2020
Gonna be even more so in the fall. We are in for more troubled times ahead, I do believe. Stash away some stuff.. food, ammo, gold, copper, medicine, etc
41493bradley yes it’s so true! We are living in some very interesting times!! 🙏
Barbi Button you can't eat or drink gold or copper
@Oceanique Sans Frontieres - Gaming Clan Australia not if it has no real value for practical use (gold, copper, etc) Survival Skills like Shawn has ARE VERY valuable in addition to stocking up with various things as you mentioned
@@luzminervalopez4148 i wouldn't say interesting times. There are no words strong enough to describe what we're all (worldwide) up against! If only masses of people stood up and said NO , then WE WOULD win,,, otherwise if people act out of fear and don't even know the truth of what's happening ,we could lose ALL freedoms !! This is very very serious stuff and its not a virus people should be acting out of fear over!!! Watch videos of ROSA KOIRE regarding United Nations Agenda 21!!!!!
love'd it when your dog run past jumped what a star.
Hi Shawn, another great episode. Hope everything works out, and you and your family are safe and happy. All the best from Alaska !
Love the sounds of the birds!
I was really glad to hear what you’re doing to accommodate your girls. It shows that you are

Hey Shawn love the garden plans I cant wait to see the green house and all your plans come to gather awesome stuff.
The dog is some kind of cartoon character, so expressive, very lovely and funny at the same time
Yes!! I agree this guy is amazing and very humble!!
I live your channel. And I wish I could help out and visit one day to see all the amazing work you’ve done. Keep it up. You are a legend
Never alone when you have a faithful pup at your side.
Muy bueno cómo siempre .
Stay Safe. Keep doing the great work you do
EXACTLY! So well said. To each his own, respect and freedom in a couple makes for a happy life!
Julie I agree.....
Thank you for sharing Cali. She is a joy.
Pay no attention to the other people. People are doing and saying all sorts of crazy things these days.
DARK LEGACY Mayhem thank you for your service. Old cold war vet here. SAC
The peaceful sounds of nature.
I agree
Your wife has a very youthful and BEAUTIFUL face. I think it’s safe to say you are living your best life ever..blessed are u, sir.
Love this channel
Heloo, friend! Mi name is Rodrigo, from Porto Alegre city, south of Brasil. I like to much to your lifestyle, and mi objective is take a cabin like yours. Congratulations for your good Work! And sorry for mi poor english. 😁

Your english is not bad at all! Grammar might not be perfect but we can definitely understand what you're saying!

What part ........ ?
Great way to start the weekend as usual. I hope you and the family are well, Shawn! Take good care of yourself!
This is what I call life.. free from the exterior noises 9/5 worries and care.
What a beautiful environment you have. peace birds and freedom.
You are never alone because we are virtually always watching you.
You are great. Best greetings from germany.
best place during quarantine i feel trapped in the city.
@@thatbird2 I hope you are able to return

You really don't need anything! The world can go crazy and you'll be comfy and cozy in your little cabin! I admire that!
This deserves more likes ❤️
I agree with you on Cali she makes me smile so much. That's a great dog with a great life and environment for her
What good is this life if you don't have another person to share it with. Even after all the years you have spent building this place up to share it with a dog that's fine people are supposed to be sociable but if a dog will do you that's great. At least she stayed with you for you to build one of the biggest UA-cam channels there was and is. Plus you have the other UA-cam channel. Life is about choices.
She's just coating her skin to keep the bugs off. She learned it from the elephants.
I totally understand your compromise.. kind of done the same... whatever you do we are all here to support you. Love the video's and looking forward to your continued adventures.. all the best from Simcoe County Ontario Canada!
17:25 - Best Cali moment by far in the whole series thus far. XD
I really enjoy watching what you do , just living off the land
