Imagine spending money in travels or taking a home im more secured and beautiful places. It's simply out of question! Maybe one day, our land treat our elders with the right respect then deserve.

Man, even the old Pioneers had a wife and kids to help build but you did it all by yourself. That is a certain level of manhood that I must obtain. I have craved this life for many years but it doesn’t happen overnight. You’ set a good example for all mankind and thank you for all the hard work that you’ve invested into this self reliance channel.

Yes, and it´s not only practical but beautiful too, impressive work, I admire good handcraft. I got addicted to those videos, it´s so relaxing for eyes and ears, great edited, and big thank you to the author for not putting a lot of music, it´s so fantastic to hear all the natural sounds. I would love to do the same, move into woods for some time....but maybe i should start with making a wooden spoon, before I sell all my stuff in town

I remember working for a prominent barn builder company and that smell of fresh cut wood in the cool morning air and the birds chirping as you started your daily building experience and there was nothing like it. Slept like a baby every night and ate hardy. I miss that kind of work. Work is good
I was watching and listening to the birds and nature, realizing how special and peaceful it would be to live where you live. No incessant leaf blowers, lawnmowers, hedgers, screaming kids, blasting music. Every time I leave my house, there is constant noise. It never seems to end. Can't sit by the pool and read a book in peace. You are blessed.
Hey shawn, my wife and I live in South Carolina. We found your channel and spent hours mesmerized watching your videos. I chop a lot of firewood myself, and found a guy that put a tire on top of the chopping block and bolted it down with a couple lag bolts. place your piece of wood inside the tire and start chopping, it doesn’t go to the ground. You just walk around and chop, It saves a lot of bending over and a lot of time. Keep the videos coming.

Every time I see you working on the cabin, it reminds me of the saying: A job worth doing is worth doing well. Seeing all the hand milled wood that goes into your projects is really impressive. I would be the old measure twice cut once adage is doubly true for wood you've shaped yourself. And as always, great cinematography and editing.

Every moment is enjoyable. Step by step challenge by challenge, it is very inspirational to go back and watch your very early videos again and then see just how far you have come. You are building more than things you are always building character. You probably have moments thinking how do I make my next step, how am I going to get all this done, but you always seem to get through things, and then some. I thank you for sharing your life and journeys with us. I bet you remember your very first steps in the very beginning. It must be very rewarding for you to look back. I think about all this every day, and am trying to adopt a new attitude and outlook in life, sometimes it is easy to get complacent, but we grow with challenges, step by step, day by day.

Love what you have achieved at the cabin. I have followed you from the beginning and to watch how your homestead has evolved is inspirational. I will even admit to buying one of your shirts and had it shipped to me in the UK. I totally love Ontario, in particular, Algonquin provincial park where I not only proposed to my wife but several years later celebrated my 50th Birthday. I long for the end of the virus restrictions so as to begin traveling again in the wider nature. Until then I will satisfy myself with mini, local adventures in the UK. Keep up the amazing work, you are a legend.
The satisfaction coming from cooking over fire is difficult to describe, it's like a hotline to our ancestral heritage. Anyone who has cooked over a wood burning stove or coal stove will know what I mean. It is elemental.
35:12 Shawn, have you thought of replacing this window with a door so you have direct access into your screen porch? You could use it for safe food storage in cold weather and you could put firewood there prior to bringing it into the cabin. It would make your space seem much larger!

The meal you prepared while working looked delicious. When you shredded the meat, I wasn't sure what you would prepare with it. It will be so nice with the porch screened in. I think it would make a beautiful place for a first cup for the day.

How much work must go into making these videos? Especially with just one person having to constantly move the cameras around and then having to edit everything. Great job sir.
Yep, a lot of people never think of that. It would be *much* easier if someone could help with the simple logistics of filming. Multiple angles, from multiple cameras, must take ages on your own. The scene where Cali bounds into the pond; count the different camera angle/shots !! Something that is apparent in all of Shawn's work is that, although he works hard, very hard, he never seems to be in a hurry. The same applies to the filming and editing; it never seems rushed. One advantage of working alone; you never have to explain what you're trying to do.😁
2H80vids, so true. Far too many people are always ‘in a rush,’ and for what? I cannot understand the rush, rush, rush mentality. Life is but a fleeting moment and the majority of people miss it because they’re always rushing here and there. This lifestyle allows one to enjoy life and take in all that we have around us. It is work, but it’s not the “gotta get it done yesterday” pace type of work that city folk strive to do.
Maybe it is just me but Covid has changed my life forever. There is no more rush rush rush when you are disabled and live in a chair watching Shawn in all these videos. Yes, “live” in a chair. My back needs medical help, so does my shoulder but who in their right mind would willingly go to a hospital these days. I’ll take the pain and just watch Shawn while I knit until all this is over. I too have wondered at the work that goes into posting these videos as my husband and I have been amateur photographers for years.

That porch will be a great place to have morning coffee bug free. We use ours a lot.

I was watching and listening to the birds and nature, realizing how special and peaceful it would be to live where you live. No incessant leaf blowers, lawnmowers, hedgers, screaming kids, blasting music. Every time I leave my house, there is constant noise. It never seems to end. Can't sit by the pool and read a book in peace. You are blessed.

Hey shawn, my wife and I live in South Carolina. We found your channel and spent hours mesmerized watching your videos. I chop a lot of firewood myself, and found a guy that put a tire on top of the chopping block and bolted it down with a couple lag bolts. place your piece of wood inside the tire and start chopping, it doesn’t go to the ground. You just walk around and chop, It saves a lot of bending over and a lot of time. Keep the videos coming.

Every time I see you working on the cabin, it reminds me of the saying: A job worth doing is worth doing well. Seeing all the hand milled wood that goes into your projects is really impressive. I would be the old measure twice cut once adage is doubly true for wood you've shaped yourself. And as always, great cinematography and editing.

Cali digging to China was a treat, and the rare moment when Shawn swore because he cut a board too short...he IS human :-) That sandwich OMGosh, it took some work to make, but was worth it. Step by step challenge by challenge, it is very inspirational to go back and watch your very early videos again and then see just how far you have come. You are building more than things you are always building character. You probably have moments thinking how do I make my next step, how am I going to get all this done, but you always seem to get through things, and then some. I thank you for sharing your life and journeys with us. I bet you remember your very first steps in the very beginning. It must be very rewarding for you to look back. I think about all this every day, and am trying to adopt a new attitude and outlook in life, sometimes it is easy to get complacent, but we grow with challenges, step by step, day by day.

Love what you have achieved at the cabin. I have followed you from the beginning and to watch how your homestead has evolved is inspirational. I will even admit to buying one of your shirts and had it shipped to me in the UK. I totally love Ontario, in particular, Algonquin provincial park where I not only proposed to my wife but several years later celebrated my 50th Birthday. I long for the end of the virus restrictions so as to begin traveling again in the wider nature. Until then I will satisfy myself with mini, local adventures in the UK. The satisfaction coming from cooking over fire is difficult to describe, it's like a hotline to our ancestral heritage. Anyone who has cooked over a wood burning stove or coal stove will know what I mean. It is elemental.

35:12 Shawn, have you thought of replacing this window with a door so you have direct access into your screen porch? You could use it for safe food storage in cold weather and you could put firewood there prior to bringing it into the cabin. It would make your space seem much larger!

The meal you prepared while working looked delicious. When you shredded the meat, I wasn't sure what you would prepare with it. It will be so nice with the porch screened in. I think it would make a beautiful place for a first cup for the day.

How much work must go into making these videos? Especially with just one person having to constantly move the cameras around and then having to edit everything. Great job sir.
Yep, a lot of people never think of that. It would be *much* easier if someone could help with the simple logistics of filming. Multiple angles, from multiple cameras, must take ages on your own. The scene where Cali bounds into the pond; count the different camera angle/shots !!
Something that is apparent in all of Shawn's work is that, although he works hard, very hard, he never seems to be in a hurry. The same applies to the filming and editing; it never seems rushed. One advantage of working alone; you never have to explain what you're trying to do.😁
2H80vids, so true. Far too many people are always ‘in a rush,’ and for what? I cannot understand the rush, rush, rush mentality. Life is but a fleeting moment and the majority of people miss it because they’re always rushing here and there.
This lifestyle allows one to enjoy life and take in all that we have around us. It is work, but it’s not the “gotta get it done yesterday” pace type of work that city folk strive to do.
Maybe it is just me but Covid has changed my life forever. There is no more rush rush rush when you are disabled and live in a chair watching Shawn in all these videos. Yes, “live” in a chair. My back needs medical help, so does my shoulder but who in their right mind would willingly go to a hospital these days. I’ll take the pain and just watch Shawn while I knit until all this is over. I too have wondered at the work that goes into posting these videos as my husband and I have been amateur photographers for years.

I really enjoy your videos and admire the life you live. As a vegan, it’s not always easy watching you hunt or eat bear but at least you’re not a trophy hunter so I respect that. You and Cali be safe out there.
Gosh I love hearing all the bird sounds and calls in the woods. You should record a cd the beautiful views you’ve taken around your property during each season and add the forest sounds. I bet people would purchase it at the same place you buy the tshirts. I know I would. I love each season and I’d love 1/2 hour of all that. Maybe a download? Put it out as a Christmas gift version!
