    If you want to get off the beaten path in Angeles National Forest, head over to the Pacifico Mountain hike. Pacifico Mountain, the highest peak in the northwestern part of the forest, offers unique views spanning from Mt Baldy to Los Padres National Forest to Nevada. There are several approaches to the summit of Pacifico Mountain, and we’ll take what I think is the most scenic one up the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). It’s a great hike without big crowds.

      Awesome, glad to hear that 👍👍 - Just a heads up, all CA National Forests are closed thru Sept 17 - but you can still hit state and local parks, just check the website before you go, I wouldn't be surprised if more parks closed.

    Nice one! I remember being able to see all the way to Olancha Peak when I did this hike. I did the road instead, with a stopoff at Granite Mtn, then Pacifico, and the view on that clear day was stupendous! Granite has some insane views as well!

      Nice, and yea, I've actually never gone up Granite, not sure why,, but putting it on the list for when everything opens again...

      @@Hikingguy Next time I'm in the vicinity, I wanna follow the road again to Granite, but then all the way to Roundtop at the end of the ridge!

    That's a wonderful trail! One of the best races in the US Angeles Crest 100 is partially on that trail! It's one of the very few that's allowed to be on the PCT because it's been around before the PCT. No new races are allowed access to the PCT.

      That's awesome, I didn't even know about that race, thanks for letting me know. 👍

    Wondering if it’s possible to hike from Chilao to Pacifico? If so, would you happen to know what type of trails connecting btwn these two areas (ie: fireroads, singletrack, benchcut)??
    Thank you any help/insight you can pass along.

    Hi question if I decide to take the use path from the split instead of the last mile on the road as you suggested, what is the gain and how steep? ive been to Pacifico before but i took the road all the way up. Thanks

  • @tr00th
    @tr00th 2 роки тому +2

    Silly question, I've always wondered if you ever hiked the entire PCT before? Either in sections or thru. And if so would you consider telling us your experience doing the hike?
    Thanks for the video, drinking Pacifico beer on Mt. Pacifico is very meta, although I wonder how shook up that beer was once you got to the top, lol.

      I have not hiked the PCT or the AT, but I've done lots of sections of it. If I could rewind life to my early 20s, I would have done them all. Today with a family it's tough to go MIA for months. Maybe when the kid goes to college.

    May I ask for clarification?; where you divert from the PCT approaching the summit, and you take the road, @ 5:06, the junction for the light use trail, that's the PCT? - does the PCT trail reach the campground at the summit?@ 6:50 you state that there's no official trail in to the summit (maybe that answers my first question), did you mean the official PCT? Then, @ 9:26 in review, you highlight the junction, and the map shows the PCT going down the side of the summit. - I'd really like to "hike the PCT to camp" Is that possible? Overall, a fantastic video - thank you so much. I hope this gets seen and responded before March 2022.

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  2 роки тому

      Okay, so at the junction jast after 5:06 there are 3 choices. Left is PCT, straight is use-trail straight up to the summit, and right + left on the road is dirt road to the top. To get to the campground you can take the use-trail or road. The PCT doesn't go directly to / thru the summit. Hope that helps!
