Lol I definitely try as that place can be challenging for sure at times but thats part of the draw for me. You should roll out there sometime with me. Alot of your subscribers fish out there on the regular 🤘
@@SeaSpankerOutdoors I know man! I gotta get down there, problem is all the action up here during the same season in the San Bernardinos... I'm headed to Idaho soon to pick up a new 4runner so after that I might hit you up to see what the action is doing.. if it's faded or whatever is going on. Worst case, next season.
hey i have a couple questions not about santa ana river but about the dam at big bear i’ve been there the past three days and i was using the 1/4 slip bobber and carolina rig i don’t know what depth to put them at or to cast out far or shallow don’t know what im doing wrong i got no bites or nothing i was there from 6am to about 12:30 and nothing idk what im doing wrong i need help i want to catch more trout thanks 🤙🏻
No worries. Typically the slipbobbers aren’t something I use until mid summer when it gets hot up there. This time of year the trout are going to be scattered all over the lake and holding fairly shallow as the water is still cold. When fishing up there this time of year Ill go to juniper point, windy point, the observatory, or red house and use a carolina rig. As the water warms the trout will migrate west to the dam area and suspend in the water column between 5-15’ below the surface making the slipbobbers very effective. I dont think your doing anything wrong with the slipbobbers its just not the best time to use them if all that makes sense
@@ryanbeck6950 i usually start with a 12-14” leader but be willing to adjust it shorter or longer until you get bit. Typically trout are in close to shore but there may be places where its fairly shallow a long way out into the water. In those instances you may need to cast out further
Hey Rob great video and explanations as usual. Perfect example would be GVL this past Friday. Went straight to the bobber and mini jig technique like you said in your earlier video and they wanted nothing to do with it. Switched up to a 1/32 and bounced it on the top and killed it the rest of the day! Gotta switch it up. Yo don't forget the sunblock my man!
I haven't had the chance to fish at SARL this year but trout fishing at local L.A. ponds has been on fire!!! I caught more trout this season than any other season while fishing. I just gave some away last week.
“Cracking the code” is just one of the reasons I love to fish for trout! There is a variety of different ways to plan your fishing strategy for the day and once you get on the water it all goes out the window. 😅 I appreciate all your tips and tricks, we can never stop learning it’s all part of the fun. Good Day! 🤟🏽
I agree, and robs videos have been huge at helping me crack the code the last 2 years. I caught more trout this year than in the last 20 combined. I am fishing more often now also but my days are consistently getting better. Lots of limits this year! Now I need to crack the code for bigger fish. I must have caught dozens and dozens of 3 pound trout at SARL this year but I never got any bigger fish. That will be my focus next winter at SARL, a double digit trout is my goal !
Hey Rob, how long do you use a bait or jig/minnow before switching? I’ve been struggling with drop shot and mini jigging and I think my big issue is not switching my presentation enough. Thanks for any advice and great video man, keep up the hard work!
I actually switch alot especially if im not getting bit and i know trout are in the area. Usually 10-15 casts. Then ill start changing my presentation style; fast, slow, slower, workin high in the water, then low, etc. then i move to something else. Sometimes ill move to a new spot but ill comeback later as the fish will start to bite at the same spot later in the day but thats only if im sure there are fish there if that makes sense
Makes sense, I usually stick to the same presentation style but I’ll try changing it up! Thanks for everything you for us local guys, I’ve learned a lot from your videos! Tight lines out there brotha!
He has done a few in the past on his channel , he gives a full breakdown of tackle and techniques for pyramid and those bigger size fish they have up there
Im actually working on it now but im gonna release it around October when the season starts up again. The season ends end of next month and didnt see the point in releasing it when the interest has faded for the season. If you are planing a trip before the end of this season just message me @seaspankeroutdoors on instagram and I’ll give you whatever intel I have. Typically during may and june the fishing is still good but the fish move out deeper and you need a boat, kayak, or tube to get at em. I may go up with my yak in late June to see how it is and round out that “how to” video
I have 4 different “tall” rod holders. 2 are 43” and 2 are 33”. I bought the 2 33” ones at hesperira lake but dont remember the guys name and the other 2 were given to me and I repaired/repainted them. If you want something similar on instagram @_fishinglegend_ still makes something similar
I have seen people fishing deep catch them in hot July, but rob would know better than me how long decent fishing will stick around there. I'm gonna give it a shot next week though!
Well into the summer but it gets more difficult the hotter it gets. There are a couple of natural springs in the big lake so im convinced that some of the trout can survive in there all year but not the majority. You can usually get the trout using regular carolina rigs well into June and even the beginning of July but you gotta find em and move around alot. Ive been meaning to do a summer slipbobber video there but im usually doing alot of sierra trips during summer. Hopefully ill get it done this summer haha
Its been a while since I used mono but i know that fluoro has a thinner diameter than the same lb test mono so im sure it casts a bit better but i dont recall a major difference
Cool video. Nice to see Santa Ana River Lakes is alive and well.
Thanks for showing your equipment and set up. Very solid.
Thanks for watching 🙏
That mudhole fished pretty well this year.... You definitely have it dialed in!

What scent if any do you add to your micetails ? Sorry if I missed it in the video .
Ill use Bang spray garlic or Smelly Jelly anise or shrimp typically 🤘
Where do you get those tall rod stand that go up to your hip? I’ve been looking for them everywhere
The only guy I know that may still make them can be reached on instagram @_fishinglegend_ just send him a message as he may still make them
Nice video fishing 🎣
Thanks Noe 🤘

How long do you think you can still catch them chunky Bows in Sarl??? After the last stocking I mean.

Discount code ain’t working. I just ordered me a set of those boots.😂✌🏽🏴☠️
I tested it out before it went live and it was working. Ill let them know 🤘
Great video rod..what size hooks you running for your drop shot rig
#8 mosquito hooks for me but some of the guys I fish with like #10 so either will work well 🤘
Does using straight flouro line for bait & wait cast as good as monofilment ? Any difference ?
Its been a while since I used mono but i know that fluoro has a thinner diameter than the same lb test mono so im sure it casts a bit better but i dont recall a major difference
That's Chris' Pond at SARL correct???
Yes but the last fish in the video was the main lake.
