    What interests me the most is when he tells his dad Shanann killed the kids so he then killed her. His dad is a little upset but not the kind of upset most of us would be knowing that 2 grand children are dead. Most of us would be screaming in pain. It's like a whole family of sociopaths.
    His parents especially the mother blame Shanann for everything. Unreal.

      @ Joe blow…My understanding of that unemotional reaction by Chris’s father was to coax Chris to confess to what he had done. I believed the detectives prefaced him to remain calm, nonreactive, snd supportive so that Chris was at ease to admit what happened .

      @@lonnierashid6812 You make no sense.
      The detectives are not working in Chris's best interest. They are not advocates for him so why would his own father do what they wanted? Why would he want his own son to admit to killing his family?
      Obviously he is hoping Shanann has the kids some place and they are safe but deep down he knows that is not likely. But when he finds out for certain his 2 beautiful grand daughters are no longer alive his reaction is lame.

    When he says things like "...this is the time when you don't want to be alone..." It's like a therapist talking to a patient, telling them what they need to do when suffering from a stressful situation. Sometimes he speaks for himself, and other times he is a separate person giving himself advice. Because he doesn't understand how to behave appropriately, I wonder if he deals with it by telling himself what he should be doing. It feels as if he is reading a book and unnatural. He does the same thing when talking about the girls saying something like "...your kids are supposed to be the most important thing..." Thanks, Martin, for the video. I'm always happy to see a new one.

      @SolaGratia. 2 роки тому +13

      I dunno.. I grew up in a narcissistic family dynamic and you expect narcs to look malignant if that's all you've experienced, or all you're aware of. And I tend to over explain things because I was constantly gaslit growing up.. I felt like if I didn't give every little detail, I wouldn't be believed. I was learning to keep receipts and have witnesses before cell phones had even been invented, just in case I was accused of "misremembering".
      I can see Chris's mom triangulating that way, and it can do strange things to a person. But I think the rambling in his case may have appeared to most like him trying to avoid "looking guilty" and trying to answer in ways that help him avoid telling the truth, which can happen to anyone lying in an interrogation room.
      Covert Narcissism is, after all, covert.. Some people (like maybe you) can spot it where others never knew it could exist.

    His stories from when he and Shanann were dating were dating show red flags. The story about being underdressed for the theatre and her joking that she hoped he wasn't her date shows a narcissistic injury. Even if this had been an appropriate time and place to tell the story, the story would progress beyond that. For examples, "We still had a great time, we saw this movie, the formal theater was nice..." He just stays on that one detail of how he didn't project the right image. He wants her to think he's not cunning or image conscious and that his wife was. Bragging on himself for staying with her for her colonoscopy and the story about the concert are red flags too. If they were married, it would be a given that he would be there for a medical appointment. If you just started dating, your partner might not want you there when they aren't feeling well or are in a compromised position. He volunteered to be there and acted like he was a martyr when she was the one who was going through something. Why was he talking about running through the hot parking lot at the concert because he forgot his own ticket as though it was a sacrifice for her? It was his ticket. He should be going to get it. Letting her lean on him on the way back while she was sick with lupus doesn't make him an amazing human being either. He was looking for vulnerabilities he could exploit even then. The bit about him not telling her he was uncomfortable or to get off of him makes me think maybe he got angry when she said something like that to him.

    The "banality of evil" comes to mind. Like a 2 year old, he wanted something, something was in the way, he made it happen. He felt bad. Girlfriend made him feel good. He went there. That's as much dimension and depth he has. He seems like a "non person" and I wonder how much of that can be attributed to being the golden child of a narcissistic mother. He can have anything he wants, he's never wrong, but to a narc mother he doesn't really "exist" except as an extension of her, even through all the lavish praise and "love". Narcs don't see you as children or an individual at all, and because you get a sense of who you are by validation from the earliest caregivers, if you don't have that, you're just a vessel with urges, reflections of what other people say, there's no real centre. Tragic really. Btw Im not excusing him.

      The only thing I will say is there are different dimensions in npd, with some expressing some aspects more than others and some are what I call positive narcissists who do care and have high standards of integrity and responsibility in themselves, and they won't hurt a child intentionally, etc. They still struggle with some of the aspects of their nature, but they aren't malignant. The mother cannot see her mistakes or why she raised what she did. He is a sociopathic narc. I was married to a covert sadist. He was a little smarter than this guy. His father is low key narcissistic, manipulative, and sadistic, even a little with children, to control them, and creating sort of a trauma bond or emotional desire for his attention and good will, they look up to him and I believe he used this to control his children, choosing to shine on them or leave them in the cold shadow of each other as a method of punishment which my ex received a lot, coupled with the fact he was not good at sports like his sibling and his dad made amused jokes about this he didn't realize caused so much pain, even though he likes children and is a responsible person except where he can't see or control himself, but his mother was hostile and frustrated with their son when he was born because she was angry at the father who was away at sea, with some good reason, and so resented her child at the time. He responded by being difficult from the start, responding to her stress, and was used as a scapegoat, and his father's naive amusement and mockery of him as a child and by turns, angry frustration, grew his shame and the internally developing, covert, getting even, extremely sadistic sociopath who tried to kill me and our children, while making it look like an accident. Their other children were not raised the same and are different. They have no idea what their son and sibling is truly like even though they grew up with his shenanigans, but having lived far apart for some time he learned to wear the mask and his mother convinced them he had changed. It took me years of frustration and confusion to realize and as he realized my recognition and determination for better corcumstances he clamped down and became more sadistic, punishing, deadly, and destructive. He in fact, was leading a multilayered, dark, double life all along. On the surface though, it looks dull.

    Incredible that someone who has so much hate in their heart and no empathy or remorse can sit there and be such a coward. Nothing but a coward to kill his own little girls and pregnant wife. Listen, he strangled his pregnant wife and threw his daughters in oil batteries. Buried his wife with her face and stomach facing down on the dirt with her baby coming out of her. More than likely had to stuff the little girls shoulders into those 8inch wide holes at the top of those barrels. Heard his daughters body hit the oil when they fell. He then acted like nothing at all happened. No way a normal human being could do any of that without having a physical reaction at minimum. That man is a monster. He is where he belongs. Fast forward into the deval stage, and my ex couldn’t have been less interested or compassionate during more medical issues, like surgery. He was all about himself, non caring, absent in every way during those days. It was confusing, heartbreaking, demeaning, and red flag raising, yet I stayed. They are evil and they hide it well. They leave you questioning everything, from who they are, to who you are. I was fortunate to get out when I did, as things were headed towards physical violence and I have no doubt he was capable of CW’s answer to ending the relationship. I doubt he refers to himself as the good guy or the hero simply to impress the detectives, I think he does it to remind himself that he isn't a monster. Only a monster could do these terrible things!
    It reminds me of Anthony Perkins at the end of Psycho when he thinks to himself "I wouldn't hurt a fly"

    I didn't know Shan'ann, and surely she had a kind of influence on her husband and friends, but it was a positive influence, she acted very social, her friends appreciated her friendship and leadership at work. So Chris could be glad to learn much from her like sympathy for people, and his own family. Even his parents admitted, he acted "socially akward". So to plan how to get rid of the best part of his life, impressively shows who he really is - a man, with deeply rooted psychopathic traits. It's just tragic, that so many giving humans - and innocent children - have to suffer for these predators. Very fascinating analysis of his choice of terms. Thank you!

    What gets me, is how did Chris go 30 plus years of his life with everyone thinking he was a good person. I haven't heard of any red flags before the event. How come his mask never slipped before. Not even a little? I have my own theories but his personality is a mystery how he went from seemingly nice guy to murderer overnight.

Fantastic insight, I followed this case from day 1, I always thought CW was a complete idiot but listening to this I réalise he’s not as stupid as he comes off as being, I see now that he is narcissistic which is something I never realized from following the case. Predators can come in all different forms it could be a teenage boy, a teenage girl, a man and a woman so that is why as human beings we all have to be extremely careful of who we meet in this world. We should always be cautious not paranoid but be cautious of anyone that we adopt, befriend, date, live with, marry and have children with for the rest of our lives because you never know who these people really are. I do not care if they are attractive, if they are charming, if they are entertaining, if they are fun, if they are kind, if they are successful, if they are talented, if they are wealthy and no matter how normal they may seem you obviously have to be very careful. Also it is a matter of time before they show their true character of what these sinister people are really hiding. Never ever underestimate anyone whether they are young or old. That is why as a responsible young man myself born in 1998, I use my common sense not to trust anybody that I do not know or else you would regret it for the rest of your life. In my world it is better to feel safe than sorry period. To all my fellow human brothers and sisters around the world be cautious and stay safe.

    Having watched the full interrogation of Chis “Like” Watts I have to say they are two of the best detectives I’ve seen interrogate. They work brilliantly together and you can almost feel Watts crumbling under pressure. The only criticism of the case I’d have is that his lover Nicole was not charged as an accessory to the murders. I’d certainly recommend watching this whole interrogation followed by the interrogation of Rocky Rambo Wei Nam Kam, and comparing how terrible the detective interrogating him in that case is.

    Is there anything in the way he speaks that would go along with his not wanting a trial? Having to hear what he doesn’t want to know about himself? I mean arias is even more gone than he is and she wanted a trial. She liked being on stage, he doesn’t I guess.

    • @The3Storms
      @The3Storms 2 роки тому +2

      Hello! My guess is that’s maybe a visible difference between an overt narcissist (Arias, Cindy Watts) and a covert one (Chris Watts). The covert is invested in maintaining an outer personality for acceptance, and I think Chris had to do that in his mom’s household. It’s why everyone remembers him as patient and helpful without being warm, and why he tells strange stories like missing the kids throwing chicken nuggets at him to show us all how much he tolerates. Remember the end of Psycho, with Bates dressed as mom, knowing he’s being watched and telling himself they’ll be impressed if he doesn’t hurt the fly that lands on him? That’s his life.
