      He was old enough to know that blasting the siren when traffic is at a stand still just pisses everyone off and doesn't get you there any faster. Just keep the lights going and use your maneuvering skills and horn to get you thru the mess.

    I like the slightly noticeable difference between the CHP motorcycle and patrol car sirens, the motorcycle sirens have a higher pitch than the patrol cars.

    Some Departments will not let a "wheel" respond Code 3 or in my State,, 10 - 38, red lights, 10 - 39 red lights and sirens. Too many Police Officers being injured or killed. Drivers just don't pay attention or really care. You see how they fail to yield to a Police Car so you can imagine what it is like concerning a "wheel".aka motorcycle

    Why did CHP go with simple wig wag flash patterns on their cars. I thought latest information is drivers respond better to multi selection of patterns instead of the same single flash pattern. I know they have the California Red to the front but just the simple wig wag seems boring and wont catch drivers attention.

    • @DIphone129
      @DIphone129 5 років тому +7

      Howard892 CHP actually has one of the lowest Officer involved crash rates in the country, “they credit this to the unique style that their patrol units are designed so that they maintain traditionary standards and high visibility from their vehicle detailing and emergency lights and siren setups that draw maximum attention from drivers when responding to calls and preforming regular patrol duties such as traffic stops and accident investigations....”-
      Monterey Times 2015 Article about the new patrol cars CHP had been integrating.

    • @Maizefire
      @Maizefire 5 років тому +3

      This light pattern also helps out during the fog so when there's a lot of fog and low visibility those lights are actually seen better

    • @Skyes9
      @Skyes9 5 років тому +7

      Actually the study proves otherwise. In short, you need alternating lights but you also need distance in between those lights. Multi flash lights especially multicolored lights tend to create a steady burn purple blob appearance to on coming motorist and have no real change to gather the attention needed. 3 things to consider about the public when code 3 driving. Detection, Recognition and Reaction. If you take away any one of those 3, you have increased potential for a traffic collision.
