Glad you DID NOT stand in the median getting these great shots -- when you are trained to use the WHOLE street for evasive actions while running Code 3 you would be just another problem for those units trying to respond. Nice catch!

Intreasting fact. Some of the CHP explorers don't have an air horn, the only ones that have all air horns are the new chargers.
I don't know why I put this but a CHP officer told his friend during this in a ride along when he asked, "Don't you use an air horn?"

So much CHP all in one video! The Sheriff cars have a nice livery! Liking the final clip on the ground.
Once seeing a few go passed you should have ran and stood on that median at 1:32 - that way you'd get a great front on shot without traffic.

What kinda sirens does the CHP have?
They’re custom. I haven’t heard anyone say a model yet. I think it’s a revamped version of the CHP PA500.

It is because they're passing on the right. You'll notice there are cars in the center lane. Ca law dictates vehicles shall pull to the right for emergency vehicles. They do this to avoid a collision and passing on the right (with e-equipment activated). If you watch CHP pursuits you'll notice they sometimes do that.
Santa Cruz Films :: no, it's because when you roll code with your siren on constantly people stop paying attention. That's why you alternates between tones and turning it on and off. There is the additional issue of passing on the right. We are taught to drive down the center line if we can. Passing on the right should be as a last resort. For what it's worth, I think CHP are the wimpyist sounding sirens out there. But where I live I can tell by the sound of the siren who's rolling hot.
Santa Cruz Films :: After 26 and a half years with Los Angeles and a total career of 40 years I'm pretty well certain I'm qualified on the subject of sirens.
The Motorola siren is a standard 100 watt output. The early Sirens were only 58 Watts. Some ambulances and fire trucks use dual sirens and dual speakers. Not common on police vehicles although the Rumbler is getting more popular. The Federal Signal siren is also 100 watts.
You cannot necessarily hear them literally miles away. I live in the mountains and very often you cannot hear the siren until it comes around the mountain. Whether it's in the grill or in the light bar, which is uncommon these days, you can't change physics and go through a granite wall well the sound of the siren goes out into space.
What I don't like is their sound. I don't like the wail and I really don't like the yelp. They don't have phaser or any of the other types that Federal or Whelan have. In California the high low sound is not a lawful sound and the early sirens did not even have it in them. But if you went halfway between yelp and wail you could push the manual button on and off and simulate high low.
When I was a military policeman we had Motorola sirens and we also had Federal. So as I said I'm pretty well up on sirens.
Now I'm going to throw you for a loop here. Forget physics. You can outrun the siren! The reason for this is because especially with a grill fire siren you can get behind for example a large truck and your siren can't get around it and by the time you hit an intersection you siren hasn't caught up with you yet. The sound of the siren may very well bounce off the buildings as well. Working in Los Angeles with all the high-rises It's not uncommon to know the direction the siren is coming from. I imagine you're going to challenge this statement but it's true. In fact, if you do a DOT search on siren testing you will find the document that will back this up.
There's also a matter of arrival time. Statistics show that the arrival time rolling code 3 is not significantly less than rolling code 2. Been there, done that. I've been in many pursuits... Well I'm sure you stopped reading by now.

The lights are really poor. Anything other than night and they can hardly be seen.
