For what? Not helicopter parenting their children? Constantly ask their children to hand them their phones to check if they are on social media? I mean you can absolutely do that and ruin your relationship with your kids. If that is your goal. Helicopter parenting obviously never ends in ruined relationships. The best parents can do is advice their children about the dangers of social media. That's about it. If you start helicoptering, you are only going to ruin your relationship with your kid.
What needs to be done is for these social media sites to ban teens and kids on their platforms. They can easily make it compulsory to be verified to have a social media account. No different than needing to show your ID at a club to get in. However, they won't do it. That's because unlike clubs, social media sites depend on the traffic from teens and kids to make money. Adults are not as active on social media as teens and kids. There is no financial incentive for them to shoot themselves in the foot by making it compulsory to be verified.

Daily school shootings and a pervasive drug epidemic, particularly with fentanyl, are deeply disturbing to witness. Instead of addressing these issues, they're often overshadowed by scapegoating a single individual for all the problems.

@@bigbrotherisasob Your reasoning is flawed. We need to compare like for like .
I agree with your statement it is the person pulling the trigger that is responsible.
If the gun is the same as the platform, then we need to compare users for users. A user of a gun is the person who pulls the trigger. A user of the platform is either the viewer or whoever creates content on the platform to be viewed.
The gun is neither good nor evil, it depends on how you use it. You can use it to protect or you can use it to harm others.
The platform is neither good nor evil. You can use it for good (educational purposes) or for bad.
Just like how you wouldn't leave a gun hanging about for kids to play with because of its potential harm, in the same way you shouldn't let kids full access to a platform that can potentially cause harm.
Zuckerberg is the creator of the platform and blaming him is the same as blaming the gun manufacturer.

    • @Rollerbear712
      @Rollerbear712 9 місяців тому +1

Nope, that analogy is nothing but flawed. Zuckerberg created the platform and provides the service for consumers to interact with everyone. His equivalent would be the head of a company that invented and sells firearms. Zuckerberg is not the one that uploaded and sent explicit messages to children. The ppl on the platform did. These parents expecting Mark to solve everything is like the family of someone who got shot at night downtown blaming the firearms sellers instead of the criminal that killed the person.

I'll post the same thing in response to the prevalent opinion posted that, 'It's the parents' responsibility!" And, I agree that the parents have huge, primary responsibility in this. But, can a parent's job be made harder? When the drug dealer gets to the parents' kids, does the drug dealer bear any responsibility? That is what is being asserted in these hearings.... that the social media companies aren't so completely on the up and up like they are trying to make you believe, and they have a bit of drug dealer oiliness to them, but far more insidious.

Someone needs to ask Josh Hawley if he is interested in funding healthcare especially mental health care rather than just crying about it's effects.

Why should Americans pay for the harm that Zuckerberg profits from? I agree that the American healthcare situation is deplorable and we are in desperate of real healthcare reform that doesn’t leave people naked on the street. However, that doesn’t change the fact that business owner should not be allowed to profit from the harm the cause children.

@@jilpok1074one question to you and all who think like you.
Did you think or feel this way when this social media wave became a thing? Or has something changed personally for you and now you are indifferent about what it has tuned into?
I mean realistically. We all had to know where this was going.
The easier the access. The more of the liability it or whatever it is becomes to everyone.

@@jilpok1074 It's not Zuckerberg's responsibility to parent your children. There are thousands of sites that show nudity and other things that 13-15 year old girls shouldn't be subject to so parents need to do their job because the internet sure as hell isn't going to do it for them.

@@jilpok1074 Social media doesn't cause poor mental health. Trauma, lack of accessible and affordable mental healthcare and lack of education on emotional intelligence is what causes our poor mental health. Everyone in the world has social media. Why is it that Americans specifically are struggling so much harder?

He asked the wrong question, it shouldn't have been "Who did you fire?" it should have been "What did you do to address the situtation?" There are many people that have to work together to create the algorithms used on the platform and regulate it. Asking who did he fire is basically saying who can be made to become the scapegoat for an issue that is beyond their ability to address.
