  • I spent the first 4 months of 2022, unable to securely hold anything in my left hand. This led to my seeking out a way to keep stitching despite that! Follow along with me as we look at a couple of options, including making a sewing bird to act as a third hand!
    Materials Required
    2 ½” clamp
    Scrap Yarn
6” diameter circle of quilt batting
    7” diameter circle of muslin
    Needle
    Scissors
Strong thread (I used cotton quilting thread)
2 felt pads the size of clamp surfaces

    Oh, your poor arm.
But I am so grateful for this video. Dealing with some repetitive stress injury in my main hand so gripping the cloth and needle is challenging. Why didn't I think to get my sewing bird out?
    Love your solution.

Would have liked to see how you tightened the clamp onto your table. Did you just use your hand to squeeze down on the padded ball? Or did you need a pliers or something to grab it tight enough to turn and secure it? Also how do you "pin the item to the ball" so that it holds adequately?

I just hand tightened the clamp, by holding the padded ball with one hand and tightening the turn screw on the bottom with my other hand.
To pin it to the ball, I simply use a safety pin or straight pin and pin through my project into the padded ball.
