#CQtober 2024 – Seam #9, Straight Stitch Triads
Welcome to CQtober 2024!
Straight Stitch Triads are the stitch of the day. I usually use these as embellishments on seams, rather than as the seam itself. However, in the earliest crazy quilts, they were a common seam treatment!
We are stitching 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, in the month of October. You can choose what to stitch on, but I’m stitching on a cotton velveteen whole cloth pillow cover.
I hope you’ll stitch along with me! Stitch on whatever project you like. It doesn’t have to be exactly what I’m doing. Don’t be afraid to stitch the daily stitch in your own manner!
Use hashtag: #cqtober2024 when you post photos of your stitches on Instagram, or Facebook.

    🎉🎊🎉 I laughed so loud I startled my cats when you mentioned how excited "some of [us] were" to use the Beige. I just felt the coolness of the thread would pop against the warm velvet and corduroy. It really did, right there. The green knots were a really nice accent to the t-rex feet too!!

    The gold shows up SO well! I really love this stitch. It goes so well with the autumn theme of this piece. You could use the gold on almost every seam. The wheatear is a delightful flourish! It stands out, as one color, but it is as visually complex as the other seams. I've had to rip out stitches, mostly for miscounting (im mainly a cross stitcher), but I've done satin stich for a flower that I've had to remove and try a new color blend 3 times. Its.... tedious!!! And a thread waste, but the final project looks so good for the suffering, y'know? If you hadn't tried, how would you know it sucked?

    I'm concerned that the long threads of the cross stitches will get caught on something if they are not tacked down. Did the lazy daisies accomplish that? Thank you for a lesson you taught me today--to pare down my thread choices. This will help me to spend so much less time choosing from all the threads I've selected for a project.

    • @IvoryBlushRoses
      @IvoryBlushRoses 4 дні тому

      Good question! The threads on the cross stitch are slightly over ½" long. While I didn't try to tack them down with the lazy daisies, I think they still did a bit of it. So glad you found something helpful in this video!

      Hi Colleen, these are affiliate links to what I use on Amazon. My hoop is probably an antique. I'm sure it was given to me by someone in the past. The sides are about 1"-1.25" wide. Embroidery frames are usually less than ½" and don't work nearly as well for crazy quilting. The wider width ones are usually called quilt hoops. I listed one that is 12" diameter. That rusty orange varigation is lovely. I can't believe how often I excitedly yelled Beige!! everytime you asked what color to pick. It just stuck in my head, the contrast against the darker plush fabrics. Everytime you picked another color, it always turned out beautiful, so I can't and won't complain! You're right, elegance in simplicity!

    • @IvoryBlushRoses
