I keep thinking about Henny Penny. Hmmm... Pennies are from copper, maybe name her after a brass coin? China had them, but I didn't find a name for them readily available. I saw one more modern Chinese coin with a heron on it, but it was not made from brass.
I’ve got my mom’s antique sewing bird, I don’t recall how often she used it. She also got hers after learning that they existed, and happened to find one with a patent date cast into it that was the same day as her birthday.
Thank you for the lovely video. It was a delight to see your treadle, sewing machine and how you hand sew. Just a quick suggestion to put a piece of cloth under your sewing machine’s presser foot and drop the foot so that there is not extra pressure on the spring. I have a bit of a collection of antique sewing machines. I also have a sewing bird and maybe I will try it with your inspiration.
The reminder ... it probably only works if you're already on youtube. I was listening one of Paul's podcasts, that was why I almost forgot to be here at your première. I wasn't reminded. Now I am here on youtube, I see the 'reminder bell' with a number next to it ...
I was disappointed about the lack of notifications too. But I think maybe I haven't unlocked that feature yet? I don't know. UA-cam confuses me. But I'm also grateful for it as it gives me a place to share my videos.
I just found this video, so don’t know whether another viewer has suggested a suitable protector for your table. When I attach my yarn ball winder and swift to my antique table, I use a cork-backed coaster.
l love your mischievous laugh at the start. I also love that the bird talks to you. I did not know about these, thanks for the information! Your video is a reminder of mindfulness. Remindfulness?
Thank you, Raven, I had not even known about a sewing bird ; ) Your voice is very pleasant and not hurried - I appreciate that so very much. I am so looking forward to more video from you :D
I LOVE your TARDIS tea infuser! That and the comment from The Doctor himself made this video extra fun. The sewing bird is something new to me, but as a hand sewer, I'm immediately interested in its usefulness. I'm going to try one of your mocking sewing birds to give it a try.
I first saw sewing birds in an issue of the original Victoria magazine back in the early 1990s. They were so cool, but I didn't buy one till this week. It's the same one shown in the video, I bought it on Amazon. It's handy and charming, too. The pincushion is a little hard, I spent some time squishing and kneading it to soften it up and it's fine now.
Just subscribed and put on a reminder. That is a first for me, as I haven't used reminders before. Lol Love what I have seen on your channel. Looking forward to digging into more, once I come in from fencing. Lol
@@ingeleonora-denouden6222 That is too bad. My reminder worked perfectly. It came up in my notifications. Maybe they need to be turned on? Not sure it that is the case, but just a thought. Have a great day. 💖
I tried to set the reminder on my phone - but the 'reminder button' did not show. So, here I am on the computer ~ and it showed up and I have put on the reminder and subscribed.
I would love to see how you designed/made your skirt. Loved the video and look forward to your next. Beautiful bird! An essential tool for a hand sewist. Take care.
I've been making do with a pin through both the fabric and my jeans leg, but this has well and truly convinced me to look for a more robust solution. I much prefer hand finishing most of the "awkward" seams (basically anything that isn't a straight line lol) over fiddling about on the sewing machine.
Although I do not sew unless I absolutely have to :) I have watched your video with pleasure. It was very relaxing experience, forcing me to slow down during this busy day. Thank you for sharing.
Now I watched again I saw some things I didn't see before. I saw Nicole's chickens at the end, but I also saw a man saying 'it's a hell of a bird' (why didn't I see him before? was I writing a comment? probably) and I saw in the background part of your subject in the 'watching paint dry' video. It helps to be focused on one thing (only the video itself)
I love Nicole's chickens. It is possible I made the entire film as an excuse to use 3 seconds of dr who talking about the bird. It was great chatting with everyone at the premier, but it also distracts. I think I'll keep that feature for extra special videos in the future.
This is a beautifully done video. And I have never heard of a sewing bird before, what a handy tool. I didn’t read all the comments, so I don’t know if someone else suggested this, but you might use the felt pads that are available for underneath your furniture feet to cushion the clamp.
Before I hunt through your description, thank you. First attempts with sashiko in mending hit this snag. My grasp also is affected. You may just have bolstered my larger goal to weave yardage. It's self-taught and machine sewing has been a block. Thank you also for speaking to mindful work.
Thank you for this really soothing and helpful video. I've heard of sewing birds but had no idea how to use one. I think I may well see if I can find one for myself as they look helpful as well as pretty (and pretty for tools is a must).
I'm so glad I found your video! I'll have to pick one of these up too. Thank you! Where did you get that LOVELY fabric? I'm in love with that pattern and would LOVE ot make a walking skirt out of it as well!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I don't know how it happened, but the fabric was from from one of those giant fabric shops on sale for a crazy discount. How such beautiful fabric didn't sell out instantly, I have no idea. I love it so much.
What shall I name my new friend?
Sweet Sally Swift
Serenity Swift. Hopefully making sewing serene and "swift" at the same time.
@@smokie4jesus Cute!
@@smokie4jesus That's cute too! Serenity's got that Firefly vibe to it too.

Mindfulness and tea. Love it.
The best!
Love this! Definitely would enjoy seeing you work on a new skirt step by step and a video of your beautiful treadle.

Commenting to help. Good luck
Thanks for the comment!
Maybe a thick piece of felt to protect the table from the clamp?
I was wondering if felt would work. But would it make it slippery? I don't know. Worth a try.

I have the same bird :) and use c-clamp pad protectors between the table and the clamps
I've never heard of those before.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm off to see if I can find some in Canada. Looks like they are easy to get in the US.
Such a peaceful and calming video! And very informative. Thank you!! ❤

Wonderful.
More to come!

You are so kind
How about the little felt dots used for furniture legs? They make ones small enough that should fit the clamp contact points.
I've necer heard of a sewing bird! It's delightful! Do we get to see the finished product? This is piquing my interest in hand-sewing.
Thank you!
