    Outstanding pattern fella, this for me is one of those flies that showcases the pinnacle of what tying is all about. Those Wally wings are first class and with that lighter hackle throughout the herl just sets it off.

    I know the originator of the Wally Wing, Wally Lutz. I actually have some of his original Mayflies that he gave to me at a fly club meeting. They have found their way into many patterns that we now use.

    I have a really nice regal rotary vise I've used for years...I've never utilized the rotary function until learning your techniques here.

    Using both your book and the associated video I finally took the plunge and tied a few Wally Wings. Results not too bad although first couple of flies had wings with strange twists to them. Fish able though. Must save up for a rotatable vice!

    Amazing patern. Have to tie it too. I've only one question, can I change a moose hair over to a deer hair? What kind of consequences would it cause?

      Hi Sebastian, No you can't, deer hair is too short and too brittle. You must use moose mane.

    the tube he is using can be purchased any and hobby store that sells models and glue these are the same tips and i think they come in a packs of 10, tight lines

    That is a down right beautiful fly. I'm having trouble tying the Wally Wings. I cannot get nowhere with a Mayfly without getting the Wally Wings Mastered. Any suggestions?

      Thanks Mike. All you have to do is watch the video and use a small tube as I do, take your time and follow the instructions and it should go well. Good luck!

      @@Thefeatherbender I got the hang of those Wally Wings. I stayed up to 3am working on that. I was trying to pull to many fibers down at one time, it kept braking off. But, I got the hang of it now. I bought me a new Renzitti Traveler 2000. I love it, it sure makes tying a lot easier than that $20 vise I have been using for two years.

      Hi Wayne, thanks. Yes firstly you get the correct body shape of a mayfly dun and secondly a hook when presented up side down generally hooks better.

      Hi Martin, no the wings will keep it upright and as the hook is curved it will always act as a keel.

      Thats not rude, USD patterns have been around for quite some time and work. When the pattern is tied correctly, it will land perfectly every single time and fish like a dream.

      Hi Hank, and thanks. They are easily damaged when a trout wraps its lips around them, but I always feel if it works and you catch fish its worth it.

      Thanks Barry, I expected as much, I tied up a couple just to try the technique. I live in a warm water fishery and usually fly fish for Smallmouth Bass. The bass are anything but subtle when they take a fly - none of the delicate sip of the trout, it is usually a smash and grab strike that will leave even a well tied Wulff looking abused and disheveled after a couple of fish. I like the upside down hook approach, it would be a good idea when fishing in the weeds. Cheers Barry, tight lines! Hank

      Hi Phillip, the whole construction of the fly is designed to keep it that way. Throw it up into the air and it will land the right way every time.

      Hi Dan, They are as durable as they look! Its more the technique than the pattern with Wally wings. But I always say, if it makes a difference in inducing a take, does it matter if it results in a good fish and gets destroyed ? It only takes a few minutes to tie after all.

      Why? The air flows through the wing. You can smell twisted tippet but the wings have been around for awhile and they work. They were created by an acquaintance of mine and he has great success. Try them before you denounce them.
