Have no idea why this was deleted from all versions of the movie, but was added into the TV Version. It’s so weird they would do that to such a great scene.
honestly a lot of the Theatrical cuts kind of mess with the pacing and even create a few continuity errors. Universal felt that by cutting the film down it would improve the pacing.
Yep, people have made various fan edits of AoD compiling all of the alternate/deleted scenes and dialog from the 4 officially released versions of the movie. I think the longest version of AoD that I've seen out there is the Primitive Screw Heads edit that takes the longest version from 1hr and 36min to about 1hr 55min. Since then I've seen people attempting to utilize even the alternate opening and originally intended ending in creative ways as dream sequences in the windmill scene, or at the end of the movie. I've also seen a fan edit where they spliced together the original ending of Evil Dead 2 and the opening of AoD so that they flow together better. So altogether Army of Darkness can be about 2 hours and some change with absolutely all of the footage reinserted, one way or another.
To be honest, I would like to see a fanmade version which combines all the deleted scenes and the director's cut stuff into one just like what they did to Dawn of the Dead 1978
Wish they kept this in, the movie clocks in under only 80 minutes!

Cut for pacing for a theatical release and the movie was needed to be longer for a television broadcast.
