Taylor is an amazing drummer, he is one of my biggest influences and I practically learned to play drums from him, this song is special to me I just don't know, it's different, the drum arrangements is just awesome, I'm sad to imagine what Foo Fighters will be like from now on, rest in peace my idol
If you like his drumming here check out Spirit Of Radio by Rush, maybe you already know the song but if you listen to it you can hear the same ride rythim that Neal came up with, Taylor was unique, he combinado los of great drummers into his own awesome explosive style, he will forever be missed and remembered Ps: sorry idk why I didn't finish my sentence lol
Plus dude is laying down SOLID ass harmonies the entire time. His solo projects as a lead songwriter and vocalist are excellent. Wish he got more chances to shine in FF but it is what it is, I love it all
Pat Smear fuckin rocks! I always felt he was so underrated even when he was a simple 33 year old just newly recruited as a touring musician with Nirvana. He never get the recognition he's due. Bless him.
M N It really depends on the song. A lot of the time his baritone sounding guitars add depth to Dave's guitar sounds. Sometimes all three guitarists will play different parts like Something From Nothing has Pat doing arpeggios, Chris playing slide guitar, and Dave playing the main rhythm part. A lot times, Pat gets buried in the mix in the studio recordings, but plays the louder rhythm guitar in live performances since Dave keeps his amps lower live to compensate for him being the lead vocalist. Since coming back for Wasting Light and Sonic Highways, they've started to try and integrate him better.
here after the devastating news of Taylor’s passing this exact solo is what got me into drumming 11 years ago and I cannot believe this is real I feel so overwhelmed and horrible for the foos I cannot imagine what they are going through RIP Taylor one of the greatest drummers of all time ❤️🩹
Sometimes I look back and its would to me I've played for 22 years now. The amazing music that's come out over those years and drummers that have shapes my style along the way will never cease to amaze me. Jimmy Chamberlain undoubtedly is the reason I started playing. I would have never thought so many drummers would have changed my style along the say. Taylor undoubtedly had an effect. It's wild how much this album blew me away even ten years into playing.
He was such a smart drummer, never gave himself the credit he deserved. But that's the thing that made him so damned good, the drive to be better. Same as Peart.
Absolutely devastated to hear about Taylor. I just can’t believe it. RIP to one of the greatest to ever do it. Will be dearly dearly missed. Thoughts and prayers with the whole Foo Fighters family. :(. This gonna sting for a while
Not that often that we get to see Chris Schiflett's chops really shine through. That boy can play. And btw, I love that the Foos don't feel that every song is a vehicle for a guitar solo. They rule the day with dynamics, melody and complex, layered rhythms between all 3 guitars, bass and drums. Their songs are among the most well-written in rock today.
the ending where it turned all thrash for a few seconds gave me full on goosebumbs. I just started moshing out as soon as taylor switched the beat up so unexpected
LudwigSC93 You've never listened to YYZ if you don't see the similarity in the beat. This song uses such a Peart-esque bell pattern for the chorus that I'm wouldn't be surprised if the exact same beat is floating around in a Rush song somewhere
He is referring to the ride cymbal, found all over Rush songs, and in a recurring part of YYZ. Taylor talks about that ride thing often, as do other drummers. I use it too whenever possible its great. It was conceived first by Peart. Also Subdivisions, Spirit of Radio, Red Barchetta and many others have the exact same bell pattern.
This indecision got me climbing up the walls Been cheating gravity and waiting on the falls How did this come over me, thought I was above it all Our hopes gone up in smoke, swallow your crown On a kiss, thought I'd save my breath for you On a kiss, thought I'd save my breath for you Give me some rope I'm coming loose, I'm hanging on you Give me some rope I'm coming loose, I'm pulling for you now Give me some rope I'm coming, out of my head, into the clear When you, go, I, go, loose These premonitions got me crying up a storm Leave your condition, this position does no harm On a kiss, thought I'd save my breath for you On a kiss, thought I'd save my breath for you Give me some rope I'm coming loose, I'm hanging on you Give me some rope I'm coming loose, I'm pulling for you now Give me some rope I'm coming, out of my head, into the clear When you, go, I, go, loose Give me some rope I'm coming loose, I'm hanging on you Give me some rope I'm coming loose, I'm pulling for you now Give me some hope I'm coming through, I'm counting on you Give me some rope I'm coming, out of my head, into the clear When you, go, I, go Loose
The music itself sounds like RUSH in a big way. The Foos are just unbelievably versatile and talented. They've attained that hard to achieve longevity stamp! Way to go Dave and company...you're awesome.
💔RIPTaylor It is so hard to believe. You will truly be missed. Thank you for your talent, joy and love of rock and roll. ❤️. Sending love to your family and to your brothers in the foo fighters. ❤️🙏
I'm sixty-two years old, I grew up listening to the Beatles when they were still playing live, I am classically trained in music, and I grew up listening to both Bach and Claude Debussy. And still this live performance blows my mind, ensemble playing at best!
First off round of applause to Pat for killing the dance floor 😂 and 2 the drums in this song are sick. The technical level is insane and he just kills it
Picture this, if you will... Feb 18, 1998. Auckland Town Hall. The Colour and The Shape Tour. 2 drumsets, side by side. Dave and Taylor, drumming simultaneously during an extended drum 'solo' 14 years later, my mind is still blown. amazing shit.
i love the way they made the new record! it really sounds the same when they play live, that's what makes the foo fighters so awesome, they are like normal people and then they turn into gods as soon as you give them instruments
God damn this live version is BETTER than the album version!!! That's how music is supposed to be (in my opinion). That change to the ending is so god damn EPIC!!! These guys obviously bust their asses doing the best they can do write great music AND to perform it to the best of their abilities!
RIP Taylor. I never saw a more explosive drummer in my life. Dave is a national treasure. His talent runs so deep. Chris Schiflet is a criminally unsung guitarist. And this song is a masterpiece of bombastic rock ‘n’ roll. This is absolutely perfect!
Came and went as a Foos fan over the years but they were definitely my generations band. Really bummed to read about Taylors passing, he seemed so genuine and amazing as a musician and as a person . An absolutely incredible talent gone too soon. Thoughts and prayers for the Foo Fighters. ✌️
Probably the terrible bass tone. It's not even the bassist's fault, he's great, it's just a bad guitar. He usually plays a Fender, this time he played what seems like a Hofner though for whatever reason. Other than that, awesome performance.
The Hofner styled bass is a nod to Paul McCartney's Hofner 'violin' bass, since the Foos are paying tribute to the Beatles with their matching suits, and the "Foo Fighters" graphic on Taylor's bass drum being a direct copy of the Beatles font/logo. Plus, it's the Ed Sullivan Theatre, if I'm not mistaken. The Beatles were famously introduced to the U.S. on the Ed Sullivan Show. edit: That's more of a Les Paul shape with Hofner styling cues [control plate/knobs], but definitely not like McCartney's iconic Hofner "violin" bass. With that headstock, it might be a Hagrstrom, perhaps? [Like most all of Pat's guitars.]
You guys know why Taylor smiles so much, right? Because he thanks higher powers every waking second that he's not just a tour drummer for Alanis Morissette anymore.
Oh my good LOrd!!! THis song is a priceless gift for whoever loves goo bold well written and magnificently performed rock. I really love it! Long Live Foo Fighters.

😜
The cameraman is a disaster...
the problem comes from the director!
Dan Dunning they didn't solo him out 😂
The camera man probably didn't know where the harmonic notes came from
