The Tornado foosball table has a flat surface, which leads to balls getting stuck in the corner when the goalie rod only had the one goalkeeper.
This went on from 1978 to 1987, where if a ball got stuck in the corner at a tournament, they started the match over again, which led to tournaments lasting upwards of six months.
Cut to 1988, where they decide to add two more in the corners to pick up lose balls, which was one of the greatest additions to foosball since the invention of gravity.
There was some controversy about there being three goal keepers on that rod, as it isn't how soccer (or football for some of you) is played.
However, since soccer (or football for some of you) isn't generally played with polyurethane injected men speared by hollow metal rods on a board of wood, they decided to let it slide.
Goals scored from those men do count, though, which is sorta nice.

I.T.S.F. rules stipulate the ball is served with a hand set in the center, to create a sense of consistency between all the different foosball table types used in the I.T.S.F.
