I’m 100% done with GoPro after purchasing the Insta360 x3. Kinda wish I had held out for the x4. But so far I love the X3. No more over heating issues, the camera records when I hit record and stops when I hit stop. No more freezing video and only having audio, no more random turn offs. And the x3 battery last way longer than the go pro. Next purchase will be a Insta360 ace pro to replace my GoPro.
Insta360 x4 will be my first 360 camera, hurry up insta bring out the x4 monster quickly 🤟🏼😁

I am really excited to see what they come out with... i held off on the Max because insta had great cameras... but excited to see what happens
The lens cover for the X3 doesn't come with the device, at least not in the US. That is sold separately.
I find it amazing how a company with such a grip on the action cam market (GoPro) slipped so quickly to the innovations of insta360. I still really like the little 360Go or the Go2 - just for its sheer size and relative quality. Great vid. Keep it up 👍
No 8K because:
- overheating issues and I don't think they will make the camera bigger, or provide and active cooling system that might remove the water sealing! Condesation issues are still a problem because of heat transfer and moisture...
Removable lens covers will be a great addition, but I don't think it's coming as this will cut down o profits while there's no copetitor to really push Insta360 to inovate!
- high production costs. The 360 1Inch version is still close to 1000 euros
- processing needs are way bigger for the user as 8K will most likely need last generation type of phone. Old computers will also struggle with 8K, 360 files.
Insta360 already has proxyfiles in all the current 360 available cameras. That's why it's not yet possibe to simply have .mp4 files straight
- most important: people will buy nonetheless and be happy with marginally small improvements of maximum 10% max with every release. So why go the extra mile when there are no competitors and cut down on profits by realy doing some more R&D?

To be fair, the exact same thing could be said in the past for 5.6K and 4K. Moore's law is real and 8K is out now. Expect even higher resolutions in the future.

Thanks for teeing up the discussion! I'm in the market for a 360 camera to record my sailboat racing this summer, but now I'm not sure what to do with a Max 2 and X4 somewhere on the near horizon! I can delay my purchase until April/May time-frame to make the purchase, but at best that'll bring a Max 2 into the picture.
Gun to my head in Feb/24, I'm definitely going with the X3, but feeling serious FOMO about the X4 and, to a lesser extent, Max 2. Do you think the price of the X3 will be dropped incrementally throughout the year to tempt would-be buyers like me, and clean out their existing inventory?
They usually do put an offer on closer to the time so keep an eye out, your still getting a great camera with the x3 and I don’t see a massive leap in resolution tbh I think make 6k with a 4k export, maybe better low light
Yeah, for me it's all about improvement in low-light resolution, since most of my racing happens at dusk, or in overcast conditions, which would benefit from a larger sensor. Knowing what you know about X3 and Max, I wonder if you'd still choose current X3 over the probable improvements in Max 2? Those will likely be my options this spring, and I have doubts about GoPro even catching X3 with the improved Max 2!
Vuze XR 360@180 best design so far. I'm OK with insta one x3 qualities with vuze xr design as insta one x4.
I'm still using X2. Will wait for X4 if they release it. 😬
I hope insta360 release the 10-bit on the X4
It all comes down to who comes to the table with being able to provide 4K reframes, without having to upscale.

So I can only output the X3 still in 720 or 1080p via the app and iPhone. How do I upscale to 4K via online for uploads on FB, IG, and UA-cam?

I get tempted to get a 360 camera but I'll just go with the Insta360 AcePro this time.
Thinking the same thing. And then get the x4 later.
The only problem I have with it is… what happens if it freezes? You have to remember to not hold the power button lest you incidentally delete your clip. My X3 freezes regularly for no reason, and it doesn’t do a good job notifying me that it’s having an issue.
I would love a Max2, but I think that it's not coming. Mayby Gopro has no money for development and is on decline. I cant hear any positive news about Gopro and Max2.

Max 2 isnt coming.
I’m done with GoPro permanently. GoPro has had many years to fix their issues and they haven’t ever tried. As for Insta, the X3 overheats way too easily from just the defroster during winter, and even when it doesn’t overheat it does have some unusual unresponsive/freeze issue after a long day’s use (12-15 hours) that requires you to remove the battery to use again (pressing the power button turns on the display momentarily and it says “loading” and then turns back off, and it’ll happen until it’s dead or you remove the battery).
Never ever had any overheating issues with my x3 🤔
You need to learn how to use an action camera.
A camera set up in the windshield of a car in direct sun will overheat, that’s not the cameras fault.
@@dbsranchr it should be able to handle that since u can use it as a dashcam as well.

@@dbsranchr the last update shows the dashcam option in menu. They should not share this option if it cant handle it.. But yeah, that's not why it was built for. It's only an extra option.
I divorced GoPro... every release has been a reliability sh#t show for me, both software and hardware-wise. And, personally, I would love Insta to focus on more useful features rather than gimmicky ones. Replacement lenses would be great... not because I really want to save money by doing it myself (that too), but to avoid sitting without a camera while they fix it...

Gopro max is pretty much dead and buried, even if they release 2 with the so-called updates, wont stand a chance in front of Insta. And the quik app is such a dinosaur, still living in 1980s, I mean export in 1080 after shooting in 5k, seriously?
Max 360 is garbage. Spent more time with them on the phone trying to get the Max to work rather than using it to capture footage.
All the 360 footage I capture is unusable, and they acknowledged it. But did and continue to do nothing to resolve it.
The firmware for it hasnt been updated in over four years. I expect nothing worth my money or my time with a Max 2. They'll just abandon it as soon as it's released, just like they did with the original Max.

I haven’t been impressed with the Max. I was dumb enough to think it would be good but I definitely wish I bought an Insta 360. I bought an Ace Pro and will never buy another GoPro.
