Thanks, I ended up using a piece of a cord and it absorbed the liquid that was in the port. I forgot that my phone was in my pocket when I replaced the top radiator hose on my Durango today and some of the coolant splashed out on me.
Hey Barbara, you got lucky! What kind of cord did you use where it ended up absorbing the liquid? We're always looking for new solutions. Also, kudos for replacing a radiator hose on your car. I'm pretty good with iPhones, but when it comes to cars, I couldn't be more lost.
That's awesome! I just saw your other comment too! I'm going to add this to the description of the video. You can call me David. :-) Thanks again for your comments and for helping us out. P.S. I saw a lot of things in the Apple Store, but "antifreeze in the headphone jack" - that's a new one.
Payette Forward I can work on cars but if you take me into the makeup department, hair or nail salon or some trendy fashion department Barbara is LOST LOL! Tomboy to the core.
Omg ok I’ve cleaned out the jack. Ive used a q tip. I’ve factory reset. I’ve aeroplane mode it. I’ve blew up it... And all I’ve done is put a blow dryer on it for 3 seconds and it’s fixed
I wished someone would use subtitles in these kinda videos cuz obviously 🙄 most of the ppl watching this can hear 👂 the audio cuz our phone is stuck in headphone mode
If none of the methods does not work, I suggest to use a hair dryer. I tried all the methods and I was not able to fix my iPhone. Once I used the Hair dryer for around 2 minutes my iPhone got out of the headphone mode. Probably this was a water damage.
I searched all over youtube and spent a solid 2 hours trying to find a solution to my headphone mode problem. I came across this video and used the bic pen trick and after 2 attempts, it worked :D Thank you so much!!
same here.. 1week no sound.. always used headphone even you call.. then after i watched this video my problem solve.. i used the bic pen just 1 attemp and it worked.. thanks! (:
OMG Y'ALL. i turned on my jbl speaker and connected it to my phone stuck in headphones mode. i put on some music, then turned bluetooth off AND IT WAS WORKING AGAIN I'M SUCH A GENIUS
I used a toothpick and VERY gently moved it around inside the headphone port. (iPhone 6s Plus) started working immediately. Had a tiny bit of some grey substance, probably just dirt and that could have the little headphone jack sensor stuck in. Good as new. 😁
I sometimes have this problem as I like to walk with my iPad Mini, and today was especially bad because it was raining really really hard. It usually gets fixed messing around with the lighting port, Spotify, etc. I have never found what actually fixes the problem. It kind of just fixes itself after trying to fix it for a while. The first time it happened I was concerned, now it’s just something I just got used to. However, I will point out a very important part. I can tell it’s not a hardware problem because if you go to Settings > Sounds > Ringer and Alerts it will play if you slide that slider. This has always been the case. However, it will go back to headphone mode. The way I fixed the issue this time was playing with that “Change with Buttons” then turning that on then sliding the knob, turn it off, then slide the knob. Hopefully causing a run condition to trick the iPad. The iPad will send notifications on the top saying Silent mode is on/off when you do this. I’m not sure why this worked or even works as it’s the only part of the OS that produces any sound whatsoever. Not even the ringtones work, just that slider. But it’s working just fine now. Now to listen to what they are saying in this video.
Ahhhh, I grabbed the flashlight and searched for dust in the Headphone Jack,, yes yes yes, two wads of dust and such I managed to free up... and pull out... now the phone works again. Ahhhhhhh... Thanks Guys.. as well I checked the lightning port and found dust in there tooooooo..
+Payette Forward I tarted the qtip (this was before watching your vid) I've turned off my phone 4 times cleaned with qtip changed the ring tone all that even little dab on the qtip of rubbing al I don't know if this will make worse or not what do you recommend me to do plz help
very helpful video! I would like to add one trick not mentioned. I fell into mud with my cell and got stuck in headphone mode. After resetting my iPhone and cleaning out the jack with a bic pen tube and a wooden skewer it was still stuck. I got all the mud out (there was alot!) but it wasn't good enough to release from headset mode. I figured there might be some water damage but didn't want to hit the apple store just yet. I put my iPhone in a baggy with several silica packs and waited a couple of hours. It worked! I was trying an app thru the baggy and saw that 'Headset' had changed to 'Ringer' and the speaker worked again! Yay!
Hey brother thank you so much I face this problem from last 2 week and just try this pen technique and now I am able to see my normal volume instead of headphone . my phone works perfect now 😊😊
I was going to try the one with the music, I tried plugging in my phone and all of sudden it wouldn’t charge, after over five minutes of struggling I come back here to find other ways to find out my sound worked again I’m honestly quite mad 😂
I don’t know how or why but going into control centre fixed it! Even though one of the causes is water and I got soaked in water yesterday it fixed it! Thanks!
I been stuck on this problem for how many weeks already. tried everything, been watching videos none of them work. BUT THE PEN METHOD oh my holy bic pens saves the day!! thanks you so much!!
I know it sounds weird, but I tried everything that they said in this vídeo and other vídeos and it didnt work. The thing is that suddenly it worked when I was just browsing in Facebook.
Hey, after hours af watching many videos trying to fix my IPad with no success it was the Bic pen trick that I found in this video .. Thank you so much!
David and David. I tried everything and the Bic Trick fixed it! I actually sucked on the end of the ink tube to clean it. No comment please. Thank you!!!
I don't know, I did everything - nothing worked. Cleaned my headphone jack and found some dirt in there - restarted - nothing happened - still stuck in headphone mode. Then I went Setting - General - Acessibility - Interaction - Call Audio Routing and set to speaker. It started working the second I did this.
The method with the hair dryer really worked, i was hopeless after all attemps with all the other solutions but none of them really worked. i just started the dryer and held it like from 5 to 15 cm away from the jack port along 2 minutes straight, afterwards it worked just fine and still does,
Old video but still helped for my older IPhone 7 , my phone was stuck in “Bluetooth headphone” mode and anytime I used different headphones , only 1 side would work and the other would be very faint . I watched this video and figured I’d connect my Bluetooth Earphone device Again , and then after I disconnected the Bluetooth and (All) my regular Earphones finally worked . They were all only playing off of 1 earphone.
OMG it's working!!!!!! Keep going guys!! There's A HOPE!!! Keep breathin, relax and keep do something but think before you do something gone wrong! 😱😱🤗🤗 Thank youuu
I decided to clean my phone and as I’m cleaning bugs come out of it, so bugs have been effecting my sound thank you so much about bringing up cleaning I really needed to clean my phone
(This is only for people who have dropped their phone in water or some sort of water damage) If you have tried all of these steps and it is still stuck, turn your phone off, find a radiator, turn it on to low power, balance your phone so your headphone jack is on top of the radiator, and let it sit there for a few hours, keep checking your phone to see if it is overheating by just feeling the phone, it is wise to turn on you phone after every 45 mins to see if it works already. After about 5-6 hours, (give or take), go ahead and turn your phone back on and check. I tried this last night, i dropped my phone in the bath, and it thought that the headphone were plugged in (but they weren't) and the charger port stopped working, so i was worried, the next morning, i took my phone off from the radiator, (after about 8 hours) and it worked perfectly, remember to keep checking the phone to stop it from overheating. i hope this helped, Joel.
Joel Rogers I’m going to try this I dropped my phone in the snow twice and I want to get out of headphone mode I was acc crying cause I don’t want it to breaks cause I got it for Xmas and I didn’t want my mum and dad to be mad but 1 question would your phone blow up cause it is over heating ??
I tried ALL these things and more. Nothing worked, and I knew there could not be anything in the headphone jack after all the cleaning, blowing and suction I put to it. I also was pretty sure no water was involved either, unless the humidity from all the rain got to it, which I rather doubt. There was an update available for my 6XS, so I manually downloaded it and let the phone install it - Phone fixed itself with the update! Happy!
I tried everything I could think of, including everything you suggested. I booked an appointment with Puls (a suggestion you made, and I’d never heard of them before and was relieved I could get a visit only 7 hours later.. But that became unnecessary after I set the Timer on the phone and in 5 seconds the timer went off through the SPEAKER! And all seems to be well, so give it a try yourself. I contacted Puls by email to request a cancellation of this morning’s appointment which I was able to do. I have no idea why this problem happened especially since I hadn’t used the corded headphones in weeks. I’m so glad using the Timer restored the speaker functionality. And I’m glad to know of Puls as an option down the road. Thanks for the help.
OMG THIS WORKED, i was at my wit's end after trying with Q-tip, airplane mode, ringtone settings, calling, hair dryer, brush, air pump, plugging headphone in and out, and soft reset MANY TIMES THANK YOU
erm somehow when i plugged in my headphone just to test that it's working correctly it went back to the same issue again, i just tried this method a couple more times and it worked, but i guess i can't use my headphones on my iphone anymore
The brush suggestion worked. Here are the other steps I took: 1) Turned phone off and on. 2) Sprayed canned air into the headphone port. 2) Tapered the end of a q-tip and cleaned the headphone port by twisting the q-tip. 3)The into Settings, Ringtones, played different ring tones and depressed volume button until it finally stayed on Ringer. Did that several times. 4) Did a reset from "Settings" "General." I did not delete any data, just did a reset. 5) Went into "Settings", "Sounds" and made sure that "Change With Buttons" was green. 5) Then I brushed the port out with a long bristled artists brush. SUCCESS, MY PHONE IS BACK ON RINGER! Last test. I plugged in my headphone and the volume display went to Headphones. I unplugged my headphones and it went back to ringer. Thank you.
I’m here watching this video, 1 minute and 54 secs later I realise I don’t have my headphones in. Then I was like tf.. y’all if you wanna fix this just get wireless speakers connect it to ur phone, listen to music ( I prefer J Cole) for 10 min and then check hope it works good luck guys😂❤️❤️😘
Here’s what I did and it worked great: I took a q-tip and pulled MOST of the cotton off of one end. With most of it removed the end of the q-tip will fit into your headphone jack. I stuck that end of the q-tip into the headphone jack and twisted back and forth. When I pulled it out, it definitely had a bit of “gunk” on the end. After that I flipped my silence switch on and back off and it went back to normal. HOPE THIS HELPS
I was too gonna love my life with headphones i watched all other videos none of them helped but this video just brought my phone back to life mannnnn ❤️❤️❤️ thankyou so much 😘😭
The BIC pen trick is awesome. It's not an official solution, but some Geniuses do it behind closed doors in the Genius Room. (That's the room in the Apple Store where they do repairs.)
• ѕнσкυ • I don’t know if it will work for everyone but I think that even if it doesn’t work, you will find a way then if you don’t WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK
I was too busy to do any of these when I had this problem but I watched it. Later today when I had a 10 minute voice recording with aero plane mode on it eventually worked. So the ✈️ mode for 10 mins will do the job. Thanks for the tips uploader. Hope for the best
I did all the steps and updated my phone as it might have something to do with the soft ware but in the end i did the bic pen trick and i went deeper than I should have (kinda don't recommend this step) and I restarted my phone and it WORKEEDDDDDDD thank God.
My phone has been stuck in headphone mode for hours of me trying everything! Finally watched your video and WA-LA!The antistatic brush must’ve worked bc it’s now working!!!!Thank you!So happy!I thought my phone was a goner bc I had already used a QTIP twice!Ugh!Idk why,and not once, but twice!I was stuck in stupid mode I guess! But Anyways, wanted to THANK YOU!Tfs all the tips!
Thanks bro, My Iphone started working after using non static brush on it. After using brush and cleaning it and waiting about 3 to 5 minutes it started working and started showing volume and ringer mode. Once again thanks I appreciate the information that you given in this video. It really helped.
Did you ever find a solution? Usually, the solutions we recommend won't work if there's a hardware problem. When I worked at Apple, this was one of the most frustrating problems because we couldn't replace just the headphone jack - since it's an integrated part of the logic board, it's expensive. That's why we recommend Puls if you want to save some money, and they'll come to you! You can get a $10 coupon here: www.payetteforward.com/puls-coupon-code-promo/
None of these worked for me while trying to sort a friends phone, but what did, was going to accessibility options and turn on call routing to the speaker, making a call and then turning it off again. this knocked off the headphone.
Just fixed mine! grabbed the thinnest zip tie i could find, folded it in half, inserted to my headphone jack (for my Iphone 6s) and started twisting the ziptie.

Blow the headphone jack with a hair dryer and it will fix it.
Use the ear buds I was like that but I pulled a massive bit of dirt out after about 10 minutes and 16 cotton buds just ran it in there
All I did was plug in my headphone jack headphones and took them out, that seemed to be enough to fix the problem! :)
I searched all over youtube and spent a solid 2 hours trying to find a solution to my headphone mode problem. I came across this video and used the bic pen trick and after 2 attempts, it worked :D Thank you so much!!

Try putting it in a bag of dry rice over night. It worked for an old nokia, it was stuck in headphones mode. Rice absorbs the moisture really well.

j̰̃ḭ̃m̰̃ḭ̃ñ̰s̰̃ḭ̃ḛ̃ḛ̃ hey how did you get it out of headphone mode
What are you 12? 😂
Thanks it worked
I was too gonna love my life with headphones i watched all other videos none of them helped but this video just brought my phone back to life mannnnn ❤️❤️❤️ thankyou so much 😘😭
Its WORK OMG THANKS the ink cartridge is the one😁😁
The BIC pen trick is awesome. It's not an official solution, but some Geniuses do it behind closed doors in the Genius Room. (That's the room in the Apple Store where they do repairs.)
The BIC pen to clean the port worked for me - thx!
I use airplane mode and I decided to leave my phone alone in order to go to bed
In the morning it was okay
I suggest you guys try this
Hello darkness Ok I’m done THANK YOU SOO MUCH IM CRYING RIGHT NOW
Thank u soooo much
• ѕнσкυ • I don’t know if it will work for everyone but I think that even if it doesn’t work, you will find a way then if you don’t WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK
• ѕнσкυ • that’s sad to hear but hey at least you tried
omg thank you i was worried my phone won’t have sound and it worked!!!
I was too busy to do any of these when I had this problem but I watched it. Later today when I had a 10 minute voice recording with aero plane mode on it eventually worked. So the ✈️ mode for 10 mins will do the job. Thanks for the tips uploader. Hope for the best
Thank you I love you
I did all the steps and updated my phone as it might have something to do with the soft ware but in the end i did the bic pen trick and i went deeper than I should have (kinda don't recommend this step) and I restarted my phone and it WORKEEDDDDDDD thank God.

thank you guys, i used a brush the way you did it to clean my phone and finally it turned from headphone mode to iphone mode ❤
The fact that I can’t hear this make the video more ironic
Thanks bro, My Iphone started working after using non static brush on it. After using brush and cleaning it and waiting about 3 to 5 minutes it started working and started showing volume and ringer mode. Once again thanks I appreciate the information that you given in this video. It really helped.
I was going to go and watch anime but I forgot to get my headphones :( 🎧
The Bic pen trick worked!!!!! Thanks!
Thanks! Nothing was working until I used the ballpoint pen trick.
Thank you so much you guys saved me I just had so much dust in my charging dock thanks
didn't work
Did you ever find a solution? Usually, the solutions we recommend won't work if there's a hardware problem. When I worked at Apple, this was one of the most frustrating problems because we couldn't replace just the headphone jack - since it's an integrated part of the logic board, it's expensive. That's why we recommend Puls if you want to save some money, and they'll come to you! You can get a $10 coupon here: www.payetteforward.com/puls-coupon-code-promo/
man of steal1559 I got mine too work by reseting with headphones plugged in when i was at my home screen I unplugged the headphones and it was fixed.
It worked. You the MAN! Thanks again.
I had to listen to this in headphones
Great suggestions, Ultra Dust removal spay got it out of Headphone mode!!
Thanx it worked
None of these worked for me while trying to sort a friends phone, but what did, was going to accessibility options and turn on call routing to the speaker, making a call and then turning it off again. this knocked off the headphone.
Just fixed mine! grabbed the thinnest zip tie i could find, folded it in half, inserted to my headphone jack (for my Iphone 6s) and started twisting the ziptie.
Thank u guys I was about to buy a whole new phone I tried 10 different channels none worked but the bic pen trick thank you
The pen trick worked for my phone. Thank you for the advice.
I was about to lose hope until i tried the pen trick and it worked! Thank you!
