- Nope, we're not talking about the skirt steak cut, or recipes on how to cook skirt steak, or is skirt steak a good cut of beef, or how to use skirt steak. In this video, we're talking about the New York City restaurant named Skirt Steak.
The TikTok famous restaurant Skirt Steak received millions of views on TikTok when it blew up on the platform, receiving a surge in business. Skirt Steak in New York City was famous for serving unlimited fries, salad, and skirt steak for $29. Today though, that price has went up to $39. While the Skirt Steak unlimited fries are certainly still a bargain, is Skirt Steak worth it at $39 rather than the original price? Is Skirt Steak one of the best steaks in New York City? Or is Skirts Steak a tourist trap? While undoubtedly an iconic New York restaurant and a viral restaurant, where does Skirt Steak rank amongst the famous NYC steakhouses? Such as Peter Luger, Wolfgang's Steakhouse, Keens Steakhouse, Gallaghers Steakhouse, Old Homestead Steakhouse, and Spark's Steakhouse? While Skirt Steak is one of the most affordable NYC steakhouses, we will find out today if it is one of the best or if it is one of the most overrated New York City restaurants.

I like the honesty. Too many food vloggers act like they loved everything they are eating. It's refreshing to see a real opinion.
Yeah I will be honest no matter what. I noticed that food vloggers will either pretend to like everything or they will pretend to hate everything just because the place was opened by a celebrity chef. I promise my channel will forever be free from bias.
A lot of the problem is these people want to get viewers, so they are cagey and lie. Also, they may be getting paid or having their food compensated. It's an open secret. Keith Lee is one of the more disgustingly obvious shills out there. I think he's being backed by big money too. I hope he gets exposed soon.

Tiktok is amazing. It's not an advertising channel. It CAN be, but even then, it's still great for getting information on a product. Tiktok is one of the greatest apps ever and it's sad to see people rip on it without trying it.

I really hate it when steak places pre-cut their steaks. The beef gets oxidized and dries up really fast, which is exactly what happens to the skirt steak. I mean, by the end of the meal the beef was hella grey.
In this case I think it was because skirt steak needs to be sliced properly, against the grain. So they want to make sure their customers cut it properly. But it's also to make the steak look bigger by stacking it
That looks like a bearnaise sauce, not chimichurri. Chimichurri would be more parsley based, not egg and butter as the Bearnaise is. I find the restaurant concept not my preference, as I can picture getting bored after a short while. I agree the steak should have been thinly sliced not big chunks. I appreciate UA taking us along. I always like his honest and thoughtful take on things.
Really appreciate the clarification! My mistake on the sauce. The steak was underwhelming though it was tender. I found the chunks actually okay as long as you cut it into smaller pieces yourself

It's laughable. If you know how to cook, you can buy a great steak for $5-10(depends on how snobby you are, I guess, I'm in the Midwest), put some fries in an air fryer and buy a bagged salad and come out way ahead, for less than this price for 2-3 people.

I honestly get more value from the restaurant reviews to avoid rather than the restaurants to try. I knew that place was going to be Meh from the jump just from the fact it’s TikTok famous. Thank you for putting in the work so the rest of us don’t have to, UA👍

You're going to charge $40 for that, your fries need to be amazing. They looked like some garbage you get from Burger King. LOL. If they offered mac and cheese and slaw, they probably could have gotten away with this better.

That was funny - here as an English person in Miami I see things differently - I grew up with big fat soggy chips (Americans call them fries.) - they were dressed in lots of vinegar and salt and were fantastic. I miss them. And here in Miami - also known as northern Cuba - skirt steak is known as Palomilla and typically cut a lot thinner. Delicious. Really enjoy your show!

Another great review! I am a fan of places that only have 5 or 6 things on their menu and they are all exceptional. There was a steak frites restaurant in Montreal and you got a bowl of cream of mushroom soup, delicious salad, fries, about a 10 oz steak, bread and creme bruelle dessert. Unfortunately, it closed at the beginning of Covid.
Sad. Would love to get more recs on places to eat at in Montreal! I'm thinking of making a trip
@@uaeatsI worked there for 5 years and would be more than happy to give you some recommendations! Food is typically great but there are some tourist traps that are run by celebrity chefs that you should avoid. All hype and no substance!
Skirt steak is common meat only meant for fajitas. Of course it is overpriced at $39. Good for you for being honest - it makes your channel more valuable than if you had said that everything was great (like so many others do). Also, that is a Bearnaise sauce, which is like a very savory hollandaise sauce. Ketchup or steak sauce would go better with that meat.

Exactly. Even though U.A. Specified in his description that he was referring to the restaurant’ Skirt Steak .” Not the cut which is skirt steak . But at $39 , not even.. i live in the southwest. Skirt steak is only suitable after marinated and then sliced thinly for fajita’s..
Skirt steak is actually a cheap cut and quite chewy ( tough) . No fat , no flavor, no taste.. 😮
I always marinade it in teriyaki sauce and grill it medium rare its great over fried rice

Hey UA thx for this video. Skirt is actually one of my fav cuts. All the reasons you mentioned is why I like skirt. Also who has the best name for steaks? Skirt, Rib Eye, NY, Filet, Tri Tip,...... Do a poll. Skirt is great with Chimichurri Sauce, lots of steaks need Chimichurri in there life. To each his own though. Chimichurri Sauce, Chimichurri Sauce. Slaps Bussin Bars
Skirt can be quite tasty! Especially sliced thinly. It's great in Korean/Japanese BBQ. I think the best steak name is NY Strip just because it flows well haha

I think skirt steak is even more expensive in California right now not just because of inflation but because it got trendy. 20 years ago we'd go to the local Mexican market and buy a few pounds of marinated skirt steak for like $12 and have a cook out dang near every weekend, now markets either don't carry it or it's as expensive as aged ribeye because it became trendy some years back. Now most of us in California can't regularly afford beef of any kind due to inflation, this state is just plain dumb.

Skirt Steak on the East/West Coast is anywhere from $15.00 to $26.00 a pound and that includes Costco. Demand is high due to UA-cam/TikTok video hype. I won't buy it anymore until the price comes down. $39 is a good price for that meal. Some here don't comprehend how much rent is in Manhattan. $20? No way.
Another great honest review . I agree 40 bucks might be a little bit too much 3495 might be better however considering what you would pay at a fast food joint which I do not patronize it's all garbage still not a bad deal considering you're in Manhattan. The bread sounded and look delicious the prepackaged butter was tacky but what do you want for 40 bucks. The salad look really fresh just wish they had a caesar dressing option. As for the skirt steak it look pretty good to me mind you it's not a New York strip steak but it looks very well seasoned with a nice bark on it very tasty cut of beef ! Cheers❤

The steak tasted good. The portion though was way too small, I think even for NYC it was not worth it. You're right the bread was great.
Even with the Manhattan tax, those steak portions were way too small...

That's $70 for a similar meal, granted the sirloin will be bigger. I feel every spot has its place, and for $39, I'll check this out.
My most favorite dish with skirt however is lomo saltado. Yes, as you mentioned, Latin restaurants will give you a great meal for a better price. But, I'm still willing to give this a shot!

Unlimited fries ,tells you there trying to fill you up ,if your still hungry,after they give you that miserly portion of steak .no tomatoes in the salad.
Skirt steak comes in 2 cuts. Inside skirt (cheaper, tough) and outside skirt which is way more flavorful and tender with more marbling and more expensive.
Love the minimalist concept of the decor and meal. I can see more restaurants going this way. Def not chimichurri sauce.

A steak salad and side costs what in NYC? Seems to be a good value for the city.
Usually if a salad is too vinegary sour you need to add more salt. Makes a huge diff.
The sauce looked more like a bernaise, not a chimichurri. Which was it? Also skirt steak is a great cut of meat and underrated in my opinion.
In Chicago, at family owned diners, you can get the same meal or steak/breakfast for the same price and have twice the steak. Prepared better too.
There is a reason this cut is used for fajitas and saved for themselves by chefs: it must be cooked and cut correctly.However done you make it it must be cut like you are making boards. not round slices of a tree trunk.

Nice video UA!!! I think I would definitively enjoy it rare better! The sauce looks lumpy - but can taste delicious in small doses. $39.00 for a bread, butter, nice size salad and huge portion of fries with nice steak - these days it's a pretty good deal!!! Like the no frill atmosphere and the decor. Definitively on my list to visit. Thank you!
To each their own! Some people might find it worth it. Personally I would want a bigger meat portion but that's just me. If you want a great budget steak meal with lots of apps and sides I'd go for the Gallaghers $30 lunch special

It's a béarnaise sauce. Chimichurri is a super thin green or red sauce.
No one goes to a steakhouse and gauges the quality of its food by its butter. Keep things in perspective. Way too picky.

Good review! I totally agree with you, the steak looked like about 6oz & at $40 was a rip-off. Yes, I eat skirt steak (churrasco) at a lot of Latino restaurants in South Florida for anywhere from $16-29 with fixings! And who gives a shit about what the idiots on tik-tok have to say, LOL

The skirt steak used to be the cheapest cut of beef , the poor people made it taste great, and then it became as expensive as other cuts of beef.

Skirt steak should be sliced thinner, and cooked to medium-rare +, and slow marinated. It’s best with a chimmichuri sauce. $39 is a rip off. $25 is where is should be.

Honestly 39 dollars for a steak, fries, salad, bread & butter is not bad at all considering you are in Manhattan. A McDonalds in Bensonhurst Brooklyn cost you 20 dollars for junk food.
For skirt steak it's a bit steep. I recommend the Gallagher lunch special. $30 and you get filet mignon, along with an appetizer and a dessert. Also St. Anselm's $30 hanger steak

Skirt steak shouldn't be served rare. Just something about the texture of the cut and the cut itself, it needs to be medium or medium well, ask any chef

Skirt steak should always be served medium. Only cut that is better when cooked a bit more done bc of how the meat muscles is broken down. Bc skirt steak is also cut opposite of its grains

@@uaeats I live in Washington State North of Seattle. Minimum wage here is well over double the national rate and cost of living here is outrageous. From the adverts, McDonald's pays over $20/hr plus meals and amazing benefits though.

Dude, if you're going to have skirt steak, you HAVE to go to an Argentine steakhouse, it is called an entraña. Do not follow these trends. Take my word, from an Argentine.
The salad is so cheap, I want tomatoes, celery, cucumber, onion, etc. The steak of course has no marbling, so I would pass on this place. A good steak would stand on in its own.
Always ask for dressing on the side.
