  • Lesson in doing your own work:
    I've taken my car to the VW dealership / service center to have any scheduled maintenance performed as to not be held liable for my own work "voiding" any warranties. Now at 59,600 miles, there was barely any warranty to void so I decided to work on the car myself and upon doing that noticed the dealership never did the 30K mile Haldex Fluid service. I brought this up to them but had no recourse, they didn't bring it up and I simply went off of their recommendations.
    As it's ultimately my responsibility to make sure proper service gets done on my vehicle, I decided to do it myself and film the process.
    I believe this service procedure is also applicable to Audi, Seat, Skoda, and Volkswagen group products that utilize Haldex systems

      This is beyond a late response but thanks for the comment!! Much appreciated. I was surprised by the gunk too, I’m even more surprised that some other cars I’ve seen have had even more buildup! Amazing unit though.

    Even though you ‘have no recourse’, I hope you complained to VW corporate about the dealer not following scheduled maintenance. Two reasons: any potential future warranty-related issues, and to let corporate know which dealers deserve a reward and which deserve less love / future allocations. I’m not a fan of punishment but the dealer needs to do you better than that if you’re being diligent and using them for regular service.

      I did and their advice was to take it up with the dealership in my area (which has not been responsive or ever gets back to me). Currently at 68,600 miles and all is well for the most part. Thank you for the comment!

    Just one thing, I thought there is also an additional filter, which looks like a small cylinder. Is there a reason why you did not replace this filter too, because it seems there have be a lot of contamination within the circuit.
    Thanks for your answer in advance.

      Phenomenal question :)!! So This was pointed out by another viewer (@graeme wilton) earlier (so keen eye to both of you). Honest answer is i did not have prior knowledge of that filter. Upon digging into it, it's not even listed as a serviceable part by VW. (I believe Audi, Skoda and maybe Volvo utilize this part as well). So I'll be doing that part of the service in 20K miles (which at this rate will be within 18 months). @sbcncsu did a fantastic video that includes that service

      @@driven15 No problem at all :-), I believe if I would combine your video with the video of @sbcncsu, probably the best possible maintenance for the Haldex :-).
      However, I have read, that it might be also about the question of the generation of the Haldex clutch. There are some, which do not have this filter. But again, thanks for all the information, because I plan a Haldex-Workshop on our Tiguan during the next months.

      If you allow me one more question. It seems that you are working very carefully and well considerate. I plan to change the fluids for the differential transmissions (front and rear end) the drain plugs as well as the fill plugs are the same as the fill plug for the Haldex (N-902-818-02). For the Haldex the Torque is 15 Nm. Do you know what Torque I have to use for the differential transmission. VW Switzerland nor google or Forums were able to provide me with an answer and my goal is to make it right.
      Thanks for your support and my apologise for bothering you :-)

    • @driven15
      @driven15  4 роки тому

      @@gustirolli441 allowed as many questions as you would like sir :)
      SO the Torque setting will be roughly the same: 15Nm for the smaller diameter bolt up to 20-25Nm for larger diameter drain plugs. The main point behind torque settings on fill and drain bolts is more so to "deform" the new crush-washer to the mating surfaces (surface of "container / vessel" and bolt) than for bolt retention (making sure it doesn't fall out). So Torquing to 15Nm or 25Nm will deform the crush washer enough to ensure a proper seal.
      I will give credit to the folks at Deutsche Auto Parts (shopdap.com) for helping with those answers for me too when i had those questions :)

    • @driven15
      @driven15  4 роки тому +1

      Good question! So if the car is push button start, just push the button with your foot OFF the brake. If it’s an inserted key, you cycle the key till all systems are powered (AC, Radio, Windows...etc) but the engine never gets power / turns over. You will hear a whine while the pump cycles.

      Although I'm not the guy replacing the oil in the video and not an expert on the subject. The problem you have can be due to a lot of different things. It could be the pump itself. It could be sensors. It could be the control unit etc.. It sounds a bit drastic with "the whole diff". You might want a second opinion at another shop. (I have the same Haldex system in my XC60 and reading a lot in a local Volvo forum. That and I have just ordered a T-Roc got me to this video as I'm interested in general)

      Hey Anthony, sorry for the late response:
      I didn’t replace the filter all together, just cleaned it from the inside out with brake clean then allowed to air dry. It was not damaged or compromised so I didn’t seam it necessary.
      I had not lost rear wheel drive and thanks priming the pump during the procedure, I didn’t when I started driving again. Winter in Wisconsin now has given extra changes to break loose and still performing top notch.
      No modifications to the car. Although I’m a fan of performance as an engineer that works on Process Reliability and own Autonomous Maintenance for a large consumer products company I’m a DEEP believer in leave letting things be as the original designers wanted them :). I fully understand these cats can handle a lot, I loved it the way i bought it haha.
      As for your issue with VW. Not sure the causes for loss of power to the rear. I can definitely try and help trouble shoot, I’ve kept good contact with folks at Deutche Autoparts here in the US. Can always put you in touch with some folks there as well.

    I find it more "idiotic" to presume that changing your own oil and doing your own maintenance in any way jeopardizes your warranty, assuming you're in the U. S. I actually just turned 10k miles on my 2019 Golf R and will be doing my second oil change, as well as my first Haldex service this weekend. All parts and fluids ordered from DAP.

      Ataratic Resonance ASMR Thanks for the comment. I see the light in what you’re saying but obviously made my own decisions on when to service my cars. Although I have full confidence in my thoroughness when doing services on my own cars, these are cars and things do go wrong with them. Having said that I don’t have full confidence in a dealership “trusting” my thoroughness. I’ve seen it require more than a good paper trail and thorough documentation for dealerships to uphold doing warranty work. They can blame the grade of fluid you used, the OEM-ness of a part, the WAY you did the service and hide behind you introducing external factors to justify why what went wrong was because of how the service was done vs a malfunctioning of the warranties components. I agree with your what you’re saying but factoring in the local dealerships / service shops in my area, I maintain my logic of why I didn’t service the car myself earlier.
