I spent like £10 on a UV lamp and little bottle which has lasted me ages, the resin cures in 1-2 minuets as opposed to the 24 hours common of 2-part resins, so when you just need a little drop for attaching something, and it's freeform as oppose to molded, UV resin is super useful.

No, there's no colour added to the petals. I dried them in the microwave so the colours stayed vibrant after drying. Thank you Никита. Some flowers can turn completely translucent in resin and you don't know which ones it will happen to until it happens. But if you seal them first, you can prevent the resin from coming into contact with the petal's surface so that the colour and opacity is preserved. Not all flowers need to be sealed: I have had roses that I didn't seal and they were fine whilst other roses in the SAME bunch became translucent. So it's not always necessary, but it is a good practice to get into. I hope that explains it! Myléne
The dried flower resin earrings you made are so clear and perfect. I tried making mine but with different resin and I keep getting strange marks on it. I'm unsure about why I keep getting that 😓
You need to seal them first so that resin doesn't spoil the flowers. If it gets into the cells, then the flower can become translucent in parts. Is that what has happened?
@@MyleneHillam Yes, I sealed the dried flowers with the matte mod podge and left it overnight to dry before coating it with resin. Sorry I was unclear in the previous comment. So it was actually the cured resin that has strange marks and the flowers looked fine. I'm not sure how to describe the marks, I guess it kind of looks like some water marks. @@MyleneHillam I thought it could be that too but the marks don't go away, also it was hard (fully cured) when I touched it. I coated a few flowers and only a few of them got the marks and it stays like that. I'm also thinking if it could be because I mixed such a small batch of resin when I do the coating. I usually mix in total 10ml (hardener + resin) of resin to coat, not sure if that is what causing the strange marks. I also emailed the shop I got my resin from and hopefully I could find out what I've been doing wrong 😅
Silica gel is non-toxic. However, if you have concerns about the brand you're using (some have small granules coated with a blue colourant), contact the manufacturer and explain that you intend to use it in the microwave.
I have a couple of tutorials which will help you. For this project, you want flat petals so a microwave flower press is my choice. See this tutorial for how to do that: blog.milllanestudio.com/2017/05/drying-and-preserving-flowers-for-resin.html Unfortunately, there's no guarantees with botanicals... sometimes they fade with time... sometimes they become vintage looking... sometimes they retain their colour. BUT, you can use a UV resistant sealer and that will offer some protection from fading. Here's a tutorial with more information on sealing the petals.

Hi! Is silicone baking paper completely different from..umm 'baking paper'?? is it also different from a silicone baking MAT? Sorry, new learner here. Where is this usually sold?
It's also known as non-stick parchment paper, like this one: amzn.to/3lQfUMl. A silicone baking mat is different but it would also work :). Just a word of caution though, if you have a silicone baking mat and decide to use it for resin, you can't use it for food ever again. HTH!

Yes, your petals must be dried or they will eventually go sludgy, mouldy or brown. These petals have been pressed and dried in the microwave. Take a look at this blog post: milllanestudio.blogspot.com/2017/05/drying-and-preserving-flowers-for-resin.html where I show you 4 different methods for drying petals (I also show you both my successes and my failures :) ). If you wish, you can also take the extra step of sealing them before applying the resin because sometimes, the resin seeps into the petals making them look blotchy. Thank you. Look for filigree jewellery findings with a loop. You glue them onto the resin and then attach the jump ring and earring wire.
